Brokeback Mountain (2005) | Heated Rivalry (2025-)
SHANE & ILYA + parallels
Breaking my silence on heated rivalry. Here's my main thought. It is so fabulous to me to watch these two like proper acting theory pilled animal work clowning physical theatre guys (a type i am highly familiar with) grappling in some kind of sisyphean hand to hand combat with some of the most awkward fanfiction dialogue ever written. And well sometimes they win. But always the point of fascination is the fight.
damn, hudson williams gets it [x]
2026: more ugly people please
I sought loneliness when I was young. You've seen me there: on my promontory, patient and unaware. But when I think of you, I want to be alone together. I want to strive against and for. I want to live in contact. I want to be a context for you, and you for me. I love you, and I love you, and I want to find out what that means together.

It's difficult to talk about the politics of fetish art or pornography because people attribute a much more narrow and much more powerful set of meanings to it. Anything that is meant to titilate must elicit positive, noncritical emotions from the viewer and creator and must do so much more effectively than other media can. A horror movie might deal with something deeply traumatic and (by most people) be tolerated or praised for portraying that topic despite it existing primarily to entertain. In contrast, pornographic portrayals of something must be assumed to exist only to "normalize" a corresponding negative behavior, and the viewer must be assumed to view it with no critical thought. Pornography can't have a range of opinions on a subject, depending on creator and audience politics. The politics have to be "pornography" which is necessarily "romanticization" which is necessarily "endorsement".
What's everyone's favorite book they read this year?

Orpheus & Eurydice || Heloise & Marianne
Perhaps he makes a choice. He chooses the memory of her. That’s why he turns. He doesn’t make the lover’s choice, but the poet’s.

Thinking about Heloïse's words during these lonely days
fandom loves a jerk with a heart of gold (as long as it's a thin handsome white man). but what they REALLY love is when the dude is canonically 100% jerk and fandom takes it upon itself to invent the heart of gold.
roy from ted lasso spends a lot of his screentime being grumpy and saying pretty mean things and he's a very popular character but nobody's out here snapewifing him. that's because the heart of gold is actually textual, the moments where he's unexpectedly nice to a towel boy or his niece etc actually happen onscreen. what you need to make fandom go insane is a situation where a guy who's constantly saying mean things never actually says or does anything to suggest any redeeming characteristics whatsoever, so then fandom can hypothesize that those scenes are secretly happening whenever the camera's not pointed at him and this is just never shown in canon because of some sort of conspiracy to defame him, and then congratulate themselves on having solved a mystery and discovered the real truth
this works best when the dude's narrative role is side antagonist, which in most popular fiction genres means he spends most of the time losing and/or getting dunked on. this imbues him with a slight patheticness that crucially is not really actual vulnerability (which would make him too well-defined a character to project headcanons onto so easily) but is possible to read that way if you squint, giving him a sort of wet cat je ne sais quoi that is essential to this genre of fanon guy
