this theme looks similar to the redux theme but it’s made entirely from scratch! i felt really sorry for the budding theme makers trying to use the original redux theme as a base code (it’s complicated and broken as Fuck) so i made this theme for you to learn from! YES YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT as well as a standalone theme, this is also a BASE CODE.

I made this base code only using the custom html section tumblr offers and the tumblr default theme as reference. Remember this is a base code therefore you can edit whatever you want and there’s no need to credit since after all is just a base

-how to put tags and notes on the bottom of the post

Free Tumblr base code for column themes

We’ve released a free base code/boilerplate for Tumblr that includes infinite scroll and a Masonry layout.

You can use as much of the code as you need. For example, you could delete all the inline CSS to create your own styles if you wanted to.

This base code is intended for all theme developers and people looking to learn more about Tumblr themes, there are no restrictions to the extent you can use the code.

friendly reminder for everyone using contained themes

please make sure that your css for your container is set to position:fixed; !!! i think the default setting in those codes is position:relative;, but even when you code it yourself make sure you use fixed, especially when you use a background with only limited space where the posts are actually readable. why? simply because relative has the container move depending on screen size, and obviously not everyone has the same screen size. try it out resizing your browser window! so please please take that ( and backgrounds that are big enough, that white streak on big screens isn’t too pretty ) into consideration when editing your theme. if you have doubts and want to check what your theme looks like on other screens, this website is extremely useful. just paste your url into that bar thingy and it’ll show you your blog in different screen resolutions.

also another note to always remember to code from the left and top! what i mean by this is that when you’re setting the position of your post container and elements ( links, pagination, description, etc. ), always use margin-top and margin-left. your background should be fixed from the top left corner by default with most themes.

why is this important? if someone zooms in or out on your theme for whatever reason ( diff resolutions being one ) with a container coded with margin-bottom & / or margin-right and a background coded to start from the top left corner, the container WILL NOT STAY where you want it to, aka the space where your posts are most readable. it will stay within the margins you set in the coding, which might look perfect on your screen but could also be completely off on someone else’s!

ALSO - WATCH YOUR FONT!!!! Make sure the color doesn’t blend into your background (i see this all the time especially with tags)

If someone has this issue select the text as though you were going to copy it. Your browser will turn it to white text on a blue background.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF WHAT EVER YOU PRAY TO DON”T USE FONTS SMALLER THAN TEN PLEASE!!!! Just search in your code for “body” (make sure it is the body section), then look for font size. It is usually the first thing in your CSS (aka the first thing after lines of “<meta = …….>” )  Really guys, some of us can’t read small fonts very easily.

One last thing, when you code your theme check it on other browsers. Just because most of us use chrome doesn’t mean everyone does. And if you see someone with a theme issue politely let them know. In my experience people LOVE when you help them like this.
