my favorite book
Love the new-look Daneel. S/he can be anything s/he wants.
androidprincess said: Not only do I feel ABSOLUTELY AWFUL about the fact that Jander could have definitely developed to the level of Daneel, in terms of lifespan and independent thought, and he was violated by Gladia and had that stolen from him
androidprincess said: It also pains me that Daneel was likely taken advantage of in his lifetime as well, and there was nothing he could do about it due to the laws… :/
Yes, augh. I should not be awake following this line of thought, but:
Keep reading
I’m with you all the way! Daneel, Jander - any robot - should be programmed to question that terrible order to self-destruct.

I stg I am not drunk, just very tired
Great to see Daneel and Giskard having some fun for a change.
I found something cool at the bookstore today!
That is the most beautiful image of Daneel! (And I’m not talking about his innards).
That is a face to die for.
I think I’ve asked this before but
who proposes, daneel or elijah? and how
I feel like elijah would but idk
Elijah’s the man, and only ever could be. Daneel could be either, and should have all the fun prerogatives by presenting as female:
-- the lying back and letting Elijah love hir;
-- wearing strapless cropped fitted colourful clothes and showing a lot of gorgeous bronzed toned flesh;
-- just being able to look beautiful and desirable, and being worshipped;
-- just being able to just Be;
Re proposing..... in this genderblind day and age let either of them do this. No human should have to be blighted by the scourge of ‘heteronormativity‘. Especially males.
After all the worry and heartache of the end of last year and beginning of this year, I decided to make Asimov an inside kitty. He’s actually been fine, but he’s been a little restless in the past couple of days. I figured outside in the sun but in his harness was a good compromise. 💚

Me, louder with every page of an Isaac Asimov book: I love detective R. (Robot) Daneel Olivaw of Aurora
Elijah Baley and R. Daneel Olivaw from The Caves of Steel, the first book in the Robots and Foundation series by Isaac Asimov.
Art by Robert Schulz (1955), Ed Emshwiller (1953), Michael Herring (1983), Josh Kirby (1958), [Unknown - this is a Hungarian cover, let me know if you know!], Steve Youll (1991), Ruth Ray (1954), and Michael Whelan (1986).
Lovely stuff! Daneel - with his high cheekbones, lean waistline, and loooong legs - has a tendency to get universally portrayed as looking like a fashion-model/film star. And quite rightly so.
Wouldn’t Lije logically be mixed race? 3000 years in the cave-future of NYC I expect the genes would all be pretty muddled.
Daneel maybe not, since the Outer Worlds will be settled by the people who have the resources for it (who will probably be mainly white folks if we are talking about the near future :-P). Also, ginger, which most often afflicts/blesses the pale.
I imagine both Daneel and Elijah could be - or rather Daneel would be based on the ideal mix of races, which, in this case, I see as mostly Asian (brown ‘bronzed’ skin), Russian (high cheekbones) and European (reddish hair).
I imagine Elijah to be a mix of Jewish and Celtic.
I AM HAVING DEEP FEELINGS ABOUT ROBOTS
Me toooooo. Have done for the past decade - ever since I re-read the Robot Novels and there was Daneel, and then Giskard, walking into my head, where they have stayed ever since.
You can’t have fireworks under a dome.
Elijah has never seen fireworks.
Daneel taking Elijah to see fireworks for the first time.
Daneel being the ridiculous romantic that he is and arranging for fireworks to spell their names inside a heart, something that Elijah has no idea is even possible.
Would they be LOUD fireworks like we have nowadays. Or would they be banger-free, and just pop and fizzle, more like sparklers. Or even lasers, which would make them completely silent.
And would Elijah fall in love with these, or would he be scared spitless?
Would people feel they’d been done out of a good time if the fireworks WEREN’T loud? Do people think that only wussies would prefer less-loud or even silent fireworks?
Would people think that Elijah was a wuss if he were scared of the loud fireworks?
Does anyone know why the Elijah Baley and Daneel Olivaw series hasn’t been made into a TV series?
I agree - Daneel is too ‘perfect’: too beautiful for any human actor to play him. I suppose Jude Law would come the closest though.....
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent
Isaac Asimov (via thewhiteandblackpencils)
I’ve always loved this one. So 100% apt.
In 1964 sci-fi author Isaac Asimov predicted what the world wood look like 50 years later: in 2014. He imagined the future in a fairly prescient way. Here some of his – pretty impressive – previsions.
“Communications will become sight-sound and you will see as well as hear the person you telephone. The screen can be used not only to see the people you call but also for studying documents and photographs and reading passages from books.” And more: “The appliances of 2014 will have no electric cords, of course, for they will be powered by long- lived batteries running on radioisotopes.”
“Men will continue to withdraw from nature in order to create an environment that will suit them better” and “The most glorious single word in the vocabulary will have become work!”
I’d like to be guaranteed that these radioisotope-powered batteries would be entirely safe to have in a device that one carries in one’s pocket.....
There is no belief, however foolish, that will not gather its faithful adherents who will defend it to the death.
