Okay @anyone who was an 8th grader in new york state during the 2011-2012 school year—does anyone remember pineapples don’t have sleeves? What even was that???

For those not in the know:

In a New York State English Examination given out to 8th graders during the 2011-2012 school year, there was a rather interesting short story in the reading comprehension section.

‘Twas a rousing tale of an animal, I believe it was a hare, who wanted to race against a pineapple. A modern twist on the classic “Tortoise and the Hare”, if you will.

The other animals placed their bets on who they thought would win, all of them betting on the pineapple because “he must have some trick up his sleeve”.

Only the owl, the wisest of the animals, did not bet on the pineapple, because “pineapples don’t have sleeves”.

In the end, the pineapple lost because it was a pineapple, and all the animals got super pissed and ate it.

Then, just as the tale came to a close, there was a note at the bottom of the page, it read:

“MORAL: PINEAPPLES DON’T HAVE SLEEVES”
