yeah shiyi stabbed him but he doesn't care he literally doesn't caaaare about the stabbing what's a little stabbing between marital partners. what is devastating and heartbreaking and causes him to put emotional barriers between them is that she didn't trust him, she didn't understand him. believing evidence that pointed to him as her mother's killer is completely unfair to him, both because it ignores the generosity and integrity with which he has always treated her personally and because it says something about his character which would make him a really shitty guy if true. like by doing this she basically was saying "i think you're a callous and dishonest person" and my god but that hurts him! especially coming from her, the person whose opinion he respects more than all others. he thinks she's so competent and so kind and so good and she thinks he kills innocent people out of convenience. like. ouch??

but she doesn't understand this, she just keeps apologizing for the stabbing. girl he dgaf about the stabbing, move on from the freaking stabbing!!!! it makes so much sense that her every attempt to apologize for the stabbing just pushes him farther away, because from his perspective it's just more evidence that she doesn't understand him, because she doesn't even understand why that's not what he wants to hear. they only reconcile when 1) she apologizes without mentioning the stabbing and 2) she indicates that she isn't just doing this because she feels guilty, it's because she wants to be close to him. that's what he wanted: to know that she wants emotional intimacy. that means she trusts him and thinks well of him. THAT'S all he cares about. stabbing whomst.
