you know . people being completely unable to stand being around/ putting up with people who have differing opinions than them is always gonna be so. interesting to me. maybe it's just because i'm a filthy communist leftist who's grown up around a bunch of republicans but. like. you gotta understand that people on the other side of an argument from you are not evil . like i don't understand why people can't seem to grasp that . i have family members that, while i dislike being around them, are genuinely kind (and oftentimes good) people that just so happen to disagree with me on a lot of things . i have cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents and everybody else who want to do the best for the world but just have the wrong approach, at least from where i'm standing . and yeah you have the people who are obviously not great . you do have some people who have done some genuinely horrible and unredeemable things, who have spread so much harm that it's completely unforgivable . but that isn't more than like at most 1% of the people you'll ever argue against. and also what i'm talking about isn't even like that . people get so heated over things that seem so entirely trivial from my point of view . like. okay. even if you can't stand to be around that kind of stuff the block button is right there. you can just choose to not if it genuinely that bad . why does everything you disagree with have to be somehow completely moral reprehensible just because it isn't what you believe in . like buddy i don't think "everyone who disagrees with me/ does stuff i don't like is evil" is quite the take everyone seems to think it is

1. The Midwest has the most caring racists. The amount of sleeping bags and hot chocolate was surprising and heartwarming, the amount of racism was alarming.

4. Most teenaged panhandlers look older than they are (dirty, stressed). Remember they're kids. Most aren't drug addicts. Most are abused for one thing or another. Most of the time it's for being queer.

5. Dont trust RV people ever

6. Dont sleep anywhere where you won't hear people coming and wake up. Trash, sticks, whatever makes noise when people rustle through it. Car camping is so much better.

7. Cops aren't people, they're some strange demon sent to fool you with riddles and drag you away. Treat them like the Fae

the more i talk to extended family the more i learn that it was EXTREMELY obvious to all the adults around me as a child that something had gone horribly wrong and i needed professional help, but i guess there's some sort of prime directive thing where you can suggest to the kid's parents that the kid might need help but you can never ever ever let on to the kid that you can tell something is wrong. you just have to hold on to that until the kid becomes an adult who's able to say "so i think i experienced a lot of trauma when i was very little" and then you can say "yes, i know. i didn't know what happened but it was completely unmissable that something had." okay. thank you. that's very validating. but why did you leave me to suffer and keep feeling like there was no other explanation than that i was broken and going insane. would it really have been so bad to sit me down and go "i see you. i can't help much, but i can tell something happened and you're in a lot of pain. you deserve help and support. you're not going insane." or something. i don't know. my internal experience was mostly that i had suddenly become a bad child who couldn't seem to get anything right and was always being yelled at. maybe it would have helped if someone had said something.
