In this time, almost everyone knows how to use a phone, how to access the internet and use social media and for that, there are also vast of people that get swallowed by their device. Some spend their time on their devices playing or browsing the internet than spending time with their friends and family thus they forget their reality and get stuck in the net. There are also people who post too much information to the point that those pieces of information (such as photos) fire back to them and other people might use that as a blackmail towards them. People are free to do what they want but they should know their limits in using new media because the said media can either make you or break you, hard.

Effect of psychoactive drugs on spider’s ability to build a web. In 1948, Swiss pharmacologist P. N. Witt started his research on the effect of drugs on spiders. Witt tested spiders with a range of psychoactive drugs, including amphetamine, mescaline, strychnine, LSD and caffeine. The spiders spun bizarre webs and Witt used different statistical tools and image processors to analyse them. The more toxic the chemical, the more deformed a web looks in comparison with a normal web.

Cocoons by Peter Steinhauer

A 20+ year collection of photographs documenting Hong Kong’s hauntingly beautiful construction sites encaged (cocooned!) in bamboo scaffolding, draped in brightly hued material.

Since 1993, Peter Steinhauer has documented the many facets of Asian culture, with a keen eye for architecture, urban landscape and man-made structures and environments.  On his first visit to Hong Kong in 1994, arriving at the old Kai Tak International Airport, Steinhauer noticed a very large structure encaged in bamboo and swathed in yellow material–standing out beneath a canopy of clouds, glowing against the monochromatic, urban skyline.  Hong Kong is the final stronghold of the bamboo scaffolders who once practiced their trade at construction sites throughout Asia.

it's amazing how a piece of apparatus can change our lives

how it can dictate us

and how it can swallow our real world

it is really helpful though

media has been part of my everyday life. It is essential since I'm a student and in school, we use our gadgets very often and some of our subjects and/or projects that require us to have or use various of media. I also use different types of media so I can communicate with others, especially with my mother since she is currently working outside the country; in the educational context, we use it for group chats with our classmates, use it to remind our tasks with our group mates and such. It is very important especially as a student to know and use media in various platforms as mediums in order to showcase specific things for it shows how creative and expressive you are in manifesting media and information within your works.

Reflection

Every year ESPS arranges some activities for the students that includes helping the less fortunate. This year the grade 11 students went to the Philippine orthopedic center and visited the pediatric section and gave some toys & foods. When I first saw the kids. It was very heart clenching & I had felt some admiration. Some kids cry every time when a nurse passes by because they thought the nurse will inject something. the part of the pediatric section that I got assigned was not that cramped but I noticed that there are no ceiling fans, so they brought their own to fight the heat at the hospital.

It was very admiring to see the kids still continue to laugh and play despite their conditions and it made my heart warm-though it was heart clenching because some of the reason why the kids were in the hospital was because of cars, trucks that ran over the children and they did not make themselves accountable for what they did. I had the realization that I should and can help people with just by offering my presence and that helps them a lot.

Take Care of the Earth, It’s the Only Planet with Pizza.

Every year, it seems like our planet keeps deteriorating; experts say that in the year 2050, there would be more trash in the sea than the fishes, the sea level will go up because of the melting ice in the northern part of the earth, thus many cities will be flooded with water and will be inhabitable. For this to not happen, we must leave the thinking of “its only one plastic, it’s not like it would make a change if I reuse/recycle/ don’t use them.”. We, the people of the earth, must collectively take apart and help the planet to get saved by boycotting the use of single-use plastics or recycling them if it's not possible. We should cut off the avarice of buying and using too many objects that we don’t really need. We must stop being selfish and also think of the others’ state especially, let us stop being a slave of convenience because for me, its the root of why people consume too much of half of the things they really don’t need. I’ll give the example of using disposable utensils, it's more convenient to use it since you don’t need to wash them after it is used. This sounds cliché and over-used but we must take action in saving the earth before it’s too late.
