How social media has helped Families, Social Workers and the Government in discerning information during calamities?
Traditional media refers to everything that runs via traditional media channels. It includes contemporary modes of communication such as television, radio, newspaper, magazine etc. In traditional media, the sender usually decides what to publish, broadcast or telecast, while the receiver always receives the information. Social media, on the other hand, includes websites and applications that are available for social networking. It is a form of electronic communication that enables users to create and share information, ideas, messages, and content via social networking websites and applications. Nowadays, Social Media is one of the popular use in order to connect globally towards the people around the world
For many decades, newspapers/prints, radio and television broadcasters have been the primary source of critical information to the public in the event of disasters since we are still lack of high-tech technologies. This shows that media is very useful as it provides informations. On the other hand, as the world continue to develop, information gathered by social media is much more valuable than information obtained exclusively through the newspapers of the past or in TV, radio, and print. Since social media has become a dominant cultural force in the modern world, people choose to use it instead of watching TV or listening to the radio. As it enables us to communicate with other people anywhere around the world, who may shares the same values and concerns with us. Freedom and entertainment was given as well by the social media.
Social Media is very important in collaboration and in communicating other people around the globe. It helped families, social workers and government in discerning informationâs during calamities.
During natural disasters, social media played a critical role in disaster response. Every family can easily communicate with relatives in other locations through social media, particularly during calamities. It can be a tool for social workers to raise public awareness during disasters. Our government, in particular, may use social media to distribute or disseminate information. The rise of social media has helped in the distribution of disaster-related information. Again during a disaster, social media has provided useful updates to those who are in a disaster area. Some websites played a critical role in reuniting displaced families. It also raises awareness in those fields outside of the group, allowing social workers to recruit volunteers and donors.Even government listens: several government agencies harvest the chatter, sifting for specific mentions that can help them respond more effectively to crises and emergencies.
The rise of social media as a simple and efficient means of exchanging information has changed the way individuals and organizations interact, and we can't deny that social media is becoming an integral part of our lives.
Kanlungan
By Noel Cabangon
Kanlungan is a song composed and sang by Noel Cabangon that was released on 2009. This song has various meaning, thoughts and message. Kanlungan is very heartwarming that tickles the tears you have been hiding in your heart. It is a song about reminiscence that gives us the feeling of nostalgia. In addition, it is a bit mysterious and it uses many figures of speech. This song is really implied full of meanings. It is about the Filipino culture, music reflects the life of common, mostly rural Filipino. They have a strong connection with nature. Music became their sanctuary. Like the lyrics of the song, it reflects the story of the persona, remembering his/her childhood and memories of his/her past. It seems to depict childhood days when there was an airing contentment of life as being simple. The unwavering memories of classic that seemed to withstand the test of time. Now, we will no longer see those innocence. They have already flapped their wings and wandered from place to place to find meaning in existence. There is nothing we could do now but only to reminisce it.
I featured it on my blog because of its message. The message of the song 'Kanlungan' simply lets us realize that there is no other perfect time to grab every opportunity or chance that has come into our life but the time or the very moment that it has appeared to us. If we let a day pass before grabbing such an opportunity, then it might be too late. And if that happens, there is nothing we could do but to only reminisce it. Changes happen everytime and we canât do anything about it but only to live our present days to its fullest and cherish our past as our treasures. Chances are passing. Opportunity is fleeting. Opportunity only comes once and a while and we are getting older and older. Even though we want to stay in where we are, we canât because this is what life is. They said, âthe older you get, the more you understand the world but the sad part is once you see the world, you wish you never didâ because you will realize the beauty of the good old days and regret many things you let pass in your life.
