Hey all! I made it to chapter eight of London Belongs to Me! I love it so far. Alex, our protagonist, is so relatable and I just love her geekiness. What are you all thinking?
Three Dark Crowns by Kendra Blake is a story I had not read before. It is the story of three sisters, separated at a young age, who must kill each other to win the crown of the kingdom. Each sister has her own power. There’s Mirabella the elemental, Katherine the poisoner, and Arsione who is a naturalist.
This book has a very slow beginning. I liked how each chapter was a different persons perspective, it gave me an insight into the world. However I felt that the story could have picked up faster in the beginning. It’s hard in a fantasy novel to not explain the world and everything that happens in it.
But the story picks up for me after Mirabella runs away. This to me is when the story begins. Honestly as I made my way through the ending when the three sisters finally meet, I thought about giving up on the book. As interesting as it was to me, it barely held my interest.
But the ending…
OMG
First we get Zombie Katherine. Like OH MY GOD. I honestly saw her dying from the beginning of the book. And I saw Pietyr doing what he did. But the Goddess rising her from that pit? Oh my god.
And the whole thing with Arsione. It makes so much sense now. Why she never could get a familiar. Does this mean that Katherine is the naturalist? It would make sense with her snake. But why were they switched? Who did it?
I did not like Joseph as much as I thought. I’m never a fan of love triangles, especially this one. Joesph claims to love Jules but always goes to save Mirabella. Is this because of the spell? Or is it something else?
I feel like there are still a lot of questions about the world that need to be answered. Is it in our world or a separate one? Where do the old queens go? Who is the Goddess and what is her game?
The ending of this book saved it for me. I give the book a 7 out of ten stars. I am looking forward to the next one and to see where these characters go. I wonder who will sit on the Dark Throne.

Hello Everyone! I know this blog has been dead for months and I apologize for that. 2016 was a hard year for me and everything I wanted to do with this blog went down hill. So I've decided that 2017 will be the revamp for this blog. So what does that entail? First of all I will be doing a lot more book reviews. I will be have a highlighted book of the month but will also try to read some books on the side. January's book is going to be "London Belongs to Me" By Jacquelyn Middleton. That was her problem. She had so much love to give away, but people just passed her by. She forgave too easily, tried too hard, and believed too many lies. She ruined herself by giving second chances. So much love, yet so much emptiness. So much to give away, and no one to return it.

I barely gave this book a try when I first saw it. The concept was interesting and my Kindle allowed me to borrow the book instead of paying the $5.99 so I thought I would give it a chance. To say the least the book was surprising.
In the first chapter we learn that our main character, Kat, is a clumsy, shy girl who can’t speak to guys very well and is obsessed with reading. I nearly closed the book then and there. I am not a fan of when authors give away all the characteristics of a protagonist in the first few pages. It leaves nothing for the reader to look forward to, in my opinion. Also in the first chapter along our main character is thrust into the storybook world with very little background to her normal life in the modern world.
And low and behold, after ripping an old Cinderella book, Kat finds herself in the world of Cinderella. Now one would assume that Kat would be the main character, Cinderella herself. But as the title gives away, Kat finds herself as one of the ugly stepsisters. And according to her new goblin friend, unless she gets the story back on track, she’ll be stuck here...forever.
I won’t give away many spoilers of the book but the story is a very slow start. I personally felt the plot hadn’t taken a big leap till at least thirty percent through the story. But even after this point the plot became very predicable and the pieces seemed to fall into Kat’s hands. Elle, our Cinderella, falls in love with not the prince but his cousin. And our charming Prince Edward falls in love with Kat. It was quite obvious of his affection on their first meeting.
Kat fought to get her modern views and beliefs, mainly child labor laws, to be integrated into this society. I thought this part of the book to be interesting but felt it contributed little to the story. Even after Kat confesses to writing an article to help the children, everyone seems to care very little about it.
My biggest qualm about the book is the ending. In the end Kat and Edward decide that their happily ever after is enough to break Kat’s curse. And on her wedding day, months after THE ball, which was not as exciting to me as it should have been, Kat is taken back to her world. Only a few hours had passed since Kat went to her story world. But low and behold Kat has NO MEMORY OF THE PLACE. NOTHING. Oh and look here cute boy from the beginning of the book asks her out and she, having gained confidence in her storybook world, says yes.
I’m not going to lie, I was pissed at the ending. Not the “lol oh you sneaky author you” but the “that sucked” kind of ending. The end of the book said a sequel was to come out in 2016. Curiously I looked at the future book and got even more mad. The sequel takes place seven years later, Kat somehow finds her way back to this world with no memory, and Edward has to win her back. I thought the second book would get me excited and like the book better but it did not happen.
I give the book a 4 out of 5 stars. It was a good story and as much as the little stuff bothers me and the ending is terrible, it’s still a new and exciting retelling of Cinderella.
I am drawn to you for the same reason insects are drawn to burning light; we are both compelled to jump into beautiful things even if they have the potential to burn us.
