Y’ALL I’M TOO HYPED ASK ME IF I CARE
Long Road Home part 1
Tags: Angst? Slave mention. Mild Blood, drug use references. Mild fluff??
Original character. Just a concept I liked, please let me know what you think!
(Pic is just cuz it’s cool. Not anything specific to do with the story :/)
Everyday millions of people wake up and wish they were somewhere and someone else. Someone more talented, dangerous and definitely sexier than they see themselves.
How many times have you thought about it? Well truth is most everyone has at one point or another. But how often does that actually happen?
The answer is next to never, unless you happen to be in just the right place at just the right time. And if it does happen then the question becomes do you really want it? Are you really ready to be pulled out of your comfort zone? You ready to be different? If you’d asked me then, I’d have said I’d do anything. Now, looking back if I’d known what that really meant? I don’t think I’d answer the same way.
It could have been anything. A magical sword, a nocturnal bird with a letter. Hell, even an immortal with a loose interpretation of what constitutes stalking. But no, I got alien abduction. Fuckin figures.
***************
Weak and dizzy, she collapsed to the floor too exhausted to even break her fall. Head spinning she tried to pick up the thread of events but after the light things were hazy. She’d been walking home in the cool evening air when from the sky she’d been blinded by an incredibly bright light, and somehow drawn up into the air. When her feet hit something solid again she only remembered a crowd of dark figures, the needle sticking her in the crook of her neck then being shoved into a frame and a terrible cold.
She could see a faint light and only blurred shapes. Holding her hand in front of her face she felt a rising panic as she realized she couldn’t see it.
*********
The hibernation sickness didn’t last long. She wouldn’t know what it was called until much later. Her vision returned and immediately after she almost wished it hadn’t. She found herself chained by the neck to several other beings in a holding cell, cheek by jowl. And by the looks of it, the only human. She could feel the straps of her army green canvas backpack digging into her shoulders so she hadn’t been robbed. They must be cosplayers she thought, I’m being punked. To her right was a scantily clad green twi’lek girl and to her left a girl with a circular row of horns on her head, a Zabrak she would later learn. “What’s going on?” no one answered. The twi’lek shot her what could be described as a warning glance. “ Someone gonna answer? I said what the hell is going on?” The cell was dirty and dark. She moved as close to the entrance as her chain allowed. “Somebody going to tell me what is going on? I get it, you got me. Now turn me loose.” she yelled out the barred door “ I wanna talk to whoever is in charge. I didn’t sign anything for this. Not legal!” The twi’lek stared at her with wide eyes and pressed one finger to her lips imploringly. “What? The jig is up, I’m not fooled I want out, I’m going home.” She said turning back to the door. The horned girl grabbed her roughly by the shoulders and hissed out a hoarse warning revealing sharp teeth. She pulled back “ You guys aren’t fucking around are you?”. Sitting on one leg she leaned over to see out of their doorway. Footsteps echoed up the corridor accompanied by the sound of cordial conversation. Leaning further into the door she yelled out “ Is someone there? I need to talk to someone about leaving!” making the twi’lek girl shrink back against the wall and the Zabrak hit her with the flat of her hand. “ You know I’m not fond of Correllians Tosak, they’re far too unrefined for my clientele base.” A tall catlike creature and a shorter grey haired human man stopped infront of the cell. “At least she speaks Basic. I don’t have any use for Twi’leks right now and I won’t test my luck with the Zabrak. No matter how tame they look, they’ll always turn on you. How much for the Corellian?” He asked the tall thing with the cat face.” Tosak gave her an appraising glance that made her skin crawl. “ She’s quite pretty, I should think she’d fetch a premium at auction. But for you, I will offer the steeply discounted price of 500 credits. You’ve been a loyal customer Rygas.” Her eyes darted between the two of them trying to make sense of what was happening. “ What’s a Corellian?” she asked herself. It sounded so familiar but she couldn’t place it.
“ Are you sure? She doesn’t even know where she’s from!” Scoffed the man called Rygas. “ Hey, I know where I’m from! And I’ll tell you right now asshole, I’m American and I have rights-“ she shouted rising to her feet in outrage “ And another thing, you can’t just sell people, it’s illegal-“ Tosak pushed a long thin rod through the bars pressed it to the center of her chest. A arc of blue electricity jolted her backwards into the wall knocking the air out of her lungs. “ 400 credits.” Rygas offered his palm. Dazed, she watched them shake in agreement. “Oh fuck.” She whispered to herself quietly. The twi’lek looked at her with sympathy and the Zabrak turned her head away muttering darkly.
*******************************
Cuffed and incredulous, she was seated in a chair that held her head steady so she couldn’t move away as another cat person implanted her with a chip, just under the skin at the nape of her neck. Tosak handed Rygas her datapad and she was loaded into a big odd looking ship. She was waiting for someone to say something, to break the spell and wake her up from this weird dream.
She looked to Rygas for answers “ What the fuck just happened?” Casually, he smacked her across the face with the back of his hand. “ I paid good money for you is what happened. Now, you will not speak unless spoken too. Get into the hold.” “ Where am
I going” she yelled over her shoulder as two cat people hauled her away. “ Tattooine, if you must know. Not that it will make a difference to you.” He called disdainfully.
Sitting in the din of the hold she prayed silently her phone was still with her. Feeling around in her bag she couldn’t find it, then she remembered to check her back pocket. Yes, still there thank god. She quickly unlocked it and dialed her mom. “ I’m sorry, but the number you are trying to reach cannot be called as dialed. Goodbyeee.” Came the cool voice of the recording as the call disconnected. Sitting back hard on her feet, she took stock of her situation. Abducted by what were evidently aliens, either the cat people or someone else. That much was clear, as bizarre as it sounded.
Apparently purchased by some guy, loaded on a ship. Going to Tatooine? Now that’s a name she recognizes. Okay, Tatooine, think. Why does that ring a bell?? “ “Something about.... sand?” She muttered as her thoughts raced. A quote from a sci-fi movie floated to the surface of her thoughts and the air was sucked out of her lungs all at once. She was thrown back in a heap against the hull of the ship as it entered hyperspeed. “No fucking way” in the dark her eyes widened with a dawning realization. “ OH SHIT”
*********************
Rygas had been in truth nothing more than a greasy little owner of a greasy little cantina. She was evidently considered to be pretty so he had her waiting tables in his crappy little cantina in the outer rim till she caught the eye of another guy who paid double what Rygas had so she could come dance in his slightly better (but not by much )establishment in the inner rim. She refused to dance and after that she nearly died in an overheated droid refurbishing facility and was sold at a loss a few more times doing just about everything under the suns and gaining a reputation as an incorrigible runaway slave till seven long years later she ended up back on the outer rim at a bigger, nicer establishment than Rygas had . Her new master found out she could sing so sing she did, 18 hours a day, every day. It was so much better than the alternative. She even had her own little shack out behind the place. Plus, She sang whatever she wanted. It hadn’t taken long for the little droid band to learn the music to her favorites off her Spotify playlist on her beat up old IPhone X. Queen was just as much a crowd pleaser here as on Earth. Strangely Copacabana by Barry Manilow was also popular. But after five years, she’d sing anything.
*********
At the end of her afternoon set , the late afternoon light spilling in through the windows high up near the ceiling, she sat perched on a stool, vocal amplifier infront of her while her band began the first strands of Rocketman, lit spice held in between her thumb and forefinger when she noticed an interesting stranger watching her sing. Next to no one watched her sing at this hour, most were either far to day drunk or too familiar to listen to her. This guy looked pretty serious, the way the patrons avoided him at the bar. He was dressed in unfamiliar shining silver armor from his helmet down to his boots. She didn’t think he was Imperial, they usually wore white. “And I think it’s gonna be a long long time, till touch down brings me round again” she heard herself as she watched the stranger make his way around the room to settle at the end of the bar closest to her stage. He moved with confidence and even from this distance she could tell he exuded an air of malice.
The music died down and her last lyrics reverberated through the amplifier “and I think it’s gonna be a long long timeeeee” trailing off mournfully. She took a long, deep inhalation off of her cigarette and flung the butt into an ashtray on the floor of the stage. It’s been a long long time she thought as she graggex herself down off the stage for her single daily allowance of a meal. She did miss the Earth. She missed green. Canto Bight hadn’t been too bad, couldn’t really remember why she’s screwed that up for herself but whatever. Anything is better than fucking Tatooine she reminded herself. She sat at the bar pushing her food around. Truthfully she wasn’t hungry. She still had several hours to go and pretty soon she’d have to be upbeat for the night crowd. She was to blazed at the moment to care.
She felt his hands on her waist and heard his breath in her ear and rolled her eyes as hard as she could and tensed up her shoulders. She didn’t have the energy for this shit. “Jesus Christ Gu’nn, I do not have time for this right now.” she spat at the handsy male Twi’lek. “ Why do you sing such sad songs if it brings you down so much? Hm” he asked as he began to grind against her backside “I bet I can lift those spirits” he spoke with a lewd sneer. “ Why don’t you ever take the hint and fuck off?” She raised her cutlery up to his eye “ What’s a matter? You got brain damage?” She snarled. Pressing himself closer to her, he made to pull her off her seat. “ I said fuck off!” She yelled as she clawed at his hands and arms , anything she could reach as he laughed. The fist made contact with Gu’nn’s face with a crack and he fell backwards into a table . “ She said leave her alone. So leave her alone.” The silver stranger stood over the stunned twi’lek until the latter scrambled up off the floor and out the door. She watched Gu’nn retreat slightly satisfied with his new black eye.
“ Thanks.” She turned to the stranger . “ He’s really not a problem unless he’s drunk.” The stranger made a derisive sound in response. He sat a stool away from her. “ Still, it’ll be nice not to have him in here when I get done.” “ He wouldn’t wait for you to walk home alone would he?” He asked. She let out a snort of laughter, “ Ha, no.” She moved aside her hair to show him the back of her neck and gestured to the heavyset man at the far end of the bar. “ Couldn’t leave if I wanted to. Or truly, say no to Gu’nn but hey, I do anyway.” She gave him a rueful look, her hazel eyes sharp as if daring him to get smart. The stranger didn’t say anything, just looked at her. She could see only her reflection in the highly polished surface looking back at her. “ I do want to leave though” she said softly, more to herself than anybody else. “Where do you come from?” He asked after an uncomfortable silence. She gestured to the barkeep for another clumsily rolled cigarette of spice. “ You wouldn’t believe me if I’d told you.” She smiled sadly at him as she regarded her reflection, her eyes softer now. He offered her an arc lighter and she inclined towards the flame. “Try me”. “ Aight. What the hell. Maybe you’ve heard of it. A lil ol’ planet in the Orion-Cygnus arm called Earth. Third rock from the sun.” She chuckled ruefully , taking a long drag off her joint looking directly into his visor. “No, really. Where are you from?” he asked, the disbelief clearly evident in his voice. “ Lets leave it at that.” she began to examine her fingernails closely. She could feel his incredulous stare. “ Look man, you asked. I told you. What do you want from me?” “ That’s a myth. A bedtime story you tell children.” He said bluntly. “ And this place only exists in stories where I come from. But . Here. I.Am”She spoke with harsh emphasis on the last words. She turned to look at him talking around her cigarette hanging loosely from her lips “ What the fuck are you supposed to be anyway?” as if in answer the small device he held in his hand beeped and lit up. “ Ah, bounty hunter” she said quietly “ I had a run in with one of you guys a while back on Dantooine”. She turned back to the counter and waved to the barkeep. “ Is that why you’re here?” He asked flatly. He set a small glass filled with blue liquid infront of her. “ No. Not that you care. He must be close. Happy hunting.” She spoke turning her back to him as he rose from his seat.
**********
Half an hour later freshened up and wearing her good evening outfit she took up her seat at the end of the bar. A small vibration against her thigh prompted her to draw her phone out of her pocket . On a bland gray banner was the notification “ This iPhone has not been updated in 365 weeks. Connect to power to update”. “ No shit” she scoffed at the screen while dismissing the little banner. The unlocked screen told her it was 9:45 pm on Wednesday , September 10th. For old time sake she rifles through her 36,346 unread emails she couldn’t bring herself to delete. Not that they did her any good, but old habits die hard. Besides, it was a little bit of proof that she really did come from home. She’d given up on new notifications a long time ago but she still checked on the off chance a stray satellite signal has made it this far to her. She felt the stirrings of that well worn emptiness tugging at her. “Well, that’s enough of that”. She said locking her phone and flipping the front cover over and nestling it back into the safety of her pocket. After tonight, she hoped she’d silence that feeling forever.
“ Show time” she whispered to herself as she took the little stage.
The place has filled up. Pretty predictable for an evening on a busy outpost like this one. Night time was after all the best time for most of the business conducted here. Mostly richer pirates and smugglers, assorted spice dealers. She noticed that there was a new blaster hole in the wall scorched black and letting a glimmer of the outside light in. She wondered how the bounty hunter had fared this afternoon.
She signaled for the lights and stepping into her stage persona, stepped out to the vocal amplifier. “First of all, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of you life forms for coming out to see me tonight” she purred into the microphone “And if you’ve been here before well, welcome back. Tonight, I’m going start us out on a softer note before we get the party started, just to break you in easy. Hit it Sam.” She gestured to the seated droid and broke into the first notes of Bennie and The Jets.
***************************
The crowd erupted into applause. The illuminated figure inclined her head and began to sway her hips softly in time to the music. The applause grew louder and tge crowd cheered, a few whistled as the lights went low over the rest of the establishment. He watched her performance from the comfort of a darkened booth. Her shimmering sheer white chiffon gown catching the stage lights and throwing silver and blue light when she moved, her skillfully painted face framed by long dark hair in free flowing waves down her back. Her earrings shimmered with glass stones and her neck draped in a string of what were most assuredly faux pearls as long as her daringly plunging neckline. She seemed to enjoy this more than she had this afternoon, the song coming from her lips felt alive with emotion. It was a strange song about a woman named Bennie and presumably her jets. As the song ended, she opened her arms to the crowd as though she were to embrace the entire room. “ Now I promised you all
I’d get this party started” she spoke into the amplifier playfully “ This next one goes out to a good friend of mine. He loved a good time, but he loved good company more, so I know he’d have been right at home here with us tonite. Freddie, this ones for you darling, wherever you are. This one’s called Don’t Stop Me Now,” She inhaled deeply and launched right into the next song. He found himself wondering who Freddie was to her. Slowly, theatricaly at first then building to an energetic beat. He’d never in all his travels heard music like this before. The lyrical composition and the timing was strange but intriguing. The girl herself was strange. For a slave, she was very forward. She conducted herself with a certain confidence few in her situation would possess. Her assertion she came from Earth was certainly strange. Maybe that’s how she dealt with being unable to go back to her home world. She had an accent he couldn’t quite place, but that didn’t really mean anything he reasoned. There are hundreds of small planets in the outer rim, that accent could have come from any of them. She seemed to have no idea that the impertinent way she’d spoken to him earlier could have been very dangerous with another Mandolorian than himself. Somehow, he thought she might not care much. He stirred his untouched complimentary drink. She was different on stage than when he’d seen her as he staked out his quarry. That’s probably why she’s still alive, good at putting up a mask.
***********
He’d first seen her meeting his second target in a marketplace alley. A third rate smuggler by the name of Jag Dagmef. She’d pressed some credits into his hand and he’d left her there. He’d been intrigued enough to put off the bounty for two and a half weeks till the target showed back up at the cantina. He’d tried to approach her while she sat on stage this afternoon but she’d frozen him with a glare. Later on, he’d seen her meet him behind the speakeasy. He’d only managed to overhear her say “ can’t hide it. He’s been breathing down my neck ever since you left.” “What would be so bad? It’d at least be over quickly old man like that” “ No. Never. It’s never happened, not in 5 masters in 7 years so it’s not going to start now.” “ What’s your plan? Ya gonna kill him with it?” “Why do you care?” “Good money in bounty hunting they say” the target sneered “ Besides, a slave that kills her master is always worth it, in time and credits.” Through the binoculars he saw him lick his teeth suggestively. Quick as a lothcat she pulled a small knife out of her clothing, he flinched back against the wall. Pressing her little knife to his throat she she said “ Bring it tonight for payment or I’ll take care of all my problems right here, for free.” She’d scared him and he agreed shaking his head frantically.
An interesting girl indeed.
**********
He would wait as long as he needed to for the target to turn up. The night was winding down and the patrons were beginning to leave the bar. The girl had taken her bow and was now circulating through the assorted tables and dancers, occasionally clasping hands with an impressed customer. The puck began to flash and as his prey strolled into view towards the girl, he knew that this would be over soon.
***********
This part of the night usually went one of two ways either happily mingling with all the free food and drink she wanted or dodging some hot blooded flyboy drunk off his ass who just couldn’t leave without professing his love got her. Tonight she had a cotton mouth no drink would touch and a knot in her stomach that precludes appetite. Jag had a reputation for being a coward and she hoped against hope he would find the courage to show his sniveling face tonight. Just as she was considering going out to find him on her own she saw him make his way to her through the crowd. He approached with his hand extended as though to congratulate her. As she clasped his hand, she felt the cold metal slide into her palm as he babbled some nonsense about her performance as she pressed the little bag of credits into his other hand. Before she could let go, Jag was lifted off his feet by the back of his jacket and cuffed. He flailed desperately in the hunters grip. “ Is this guy bothering you?” He asked her casually . “ He was just congratulating me on my performance this evening” she replied smoothly, a look of innocent surprise on her face. The small bag of credits Jag dropped lay on the floor, quickly she scooted it under her gown and out of sight. “ You know a mandolorian??” Screeched Jag, his blind eye rolling wildly “ You scammed me! She set me up!” She pressed a hand to her chest, her beautiful features pulled into an expression of distress. “ I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about” she said taken aback. “ I wouldn’t worry about it, this kind tends to search for any reason to bargain their way out of an arrest.” The mandolorian state’s flatly. With out another word he dragged the violently protesting Jag from the speakeasy.
For effect, she sank into a nearby chair and quickly scooped her credits into her pocket. An attentive and handsome man placed a champagne flute infront of her and stroked her hand. This was too good to be true she thought.
*************
After the bar closed down she sat in the close quiet of the night in her little shack before her mirrors. On the vanity lay the sterile surgical grade blade. She positioned her mirrors just so so she could see behind her. Feeling with her finger tips she pressed until she was sure she found the chip. One quick slice and the damn thing lay on the vanity top in her blood. She stared at the little piece of crystal and metal that had controlled so much of her life for the last seven years.
For all intents and purposes, she was free.
***************
Pulling her high waisted jeans up over her hips and slipping on her Adidas sneakers she looked at the scene. Her white chiffon gown lay shredded and bloody on the floor, her bed sliced open, mirror shattered with blood sprinkled liberally around the floor and she made sure to make some desperate looking smeared handprints on the floor, leaving her chip lying on the floor. Satisfied, she slipped her backpack straps over both shoulders and draped the voluminous faded cloak over herself. Now the danger was getting off planet without being caught.
The sun was just beginning to slip above the horizon as she slipped out into the street towards the hangars.
She was looking for a ship she could either easily board unnoticed or pilot herself. Not having much experience with actual starships wasn’t a deterrent. She’d get off this planet or die trying.
By luck or by chance she found a lone star commuter 2000 parked behind a battered old gunship. Judging by the state of it, the commuter had seen better days but more promising was the stack of past due storage fees that it had accumulated according to the data pad magnetized to its hull. If she was slick she might be able to finesse her way into a ship.
******************
By his reckoning he’d been here long enough. He needed to resupply and refuel before he left. The jobs he’d taken here should be worth at least the fuel he spent in getting here. His order of dry goods should be here at first light.
As the hangar staff fueled his ship, a flurry of motion from the far side of the derelict commuter caught his eye. Bounty jumpers aren’t unusual and this was just the place to encounter someone who thought they’d get one over on him. More dangerous was the threat another hunter had tracked him with an eye for the only high value target in his possession. Either way, he wasn’t going to put up with trouble.
It was locked because of course it was. Who the hell leaves a ship in long term storage without locking the damn thing? She swore under her breath pressing the most worn buttons on the pad in increasingly complex order unti finally she yanked open the panel and began untangling the mess of colored wiring to override the lock.
Hooded head down, she never heard him sneaking up behind her.
The unmistakable feeling of a blaster muzzle pressed firmy between her shoulder blades made her freeze. “Be cool, be cool” she said slowly raising her hands up to her shoulders.
“It’s just been so long I don’t remember my own combination” she lied her voice tight. Caught, and early too. She squeezed her eyes shut in frustration.
Grasping her shoulder he turned her around to face him.
“ Adding lock picking to your bag of tricks”? It wasn’t a question.
Her eyes snapped open. “ This is not what it looks like” she spoke fast, stumbling over her words “ I’m just making sure-“ “ To steal a ship.” His helmet tilted slightly to the side “ You’re running away.” Again, not a question. “ Shhhh, keep your voice down. Maybe maybe not, what’s it to you? You’re going to attract attention I don’t need.” She wore the panicked expression of the hunted he knew so well. She glanced up over his shoulder and one of fear took its place. He saw her owner approaching with two rusted armed enforcement droids. “ Dashara!” bellowed the corpulent Pantoran his eyes nearly popping from his head with the effort of shifting his bulk “ Get back here at once or so help me - and mother of moons did you ever make a mess. It looks like I kept a Rancor back there !”The girl tensed, as if for a fight “ Oh fuck you Pog” she spat. His face indigo with strain , the Pantoran made a grab for the girls cloak. Pushing her back the Mandolorian stepped between them. “ What is the meaning of this?.” The pantoran blustered in indignation. “ You tell me.”
“ This girl is my property and I have a right to return her to my establishment! She is a business investment!” He screamed at the top of his lungs. “She is a person” he retorted, a dangerous edge in his voice. Reaching around the hunter the Pantoran wagged his finger in the girls face “ They told me you were trouble! I should have believed them! If this is how you return thanks for almost three years of shelter and food then I think I may just have to remind you how hard life can be!” “ Shelter? Food?” She screamed back “Barely one meal a day, living in a drafty shack at the mercy of your customers? And you have the audacity to add debts? You think that’s a life? You bought me at an auction for LESS than 100 credits!”She made to claw at the fat blue aliens face, the bounty hunter restrained her with one arm. “100 good honest credits, any slave would be proud to sell for such a price!” her master said, attempting to soothe. “ And how many thousands have I made you in almost three years? It’s you who should be grateful! As far as I’m concerned my debts are paid you bloated blue fucker!” she screamed, trying to climb around the mandolorian’s arm, fingernails digging into his shirt sleeve. “ All you need is a good rest and I’m sure you’ll reconsider” The slave master said magnanimously. Lightning fast, she ducked under his arm she smashed her balled fist into Pog’s nose, blood flowing freely from his face.
A droid raised its weapon and shocked her with it knocking her back several feet smashing her into the hull of the commuter. She landed awkwardly and did not stir. “ Bring her back to the cantina” Pog ordered the droids, mopping at his face with a sleeve “ And be careful of her face. The customers don’t like them beat up.” The droids moved to drag her away. “Wait” the Mandolorian stepped toward him “ for 150 credits I’d be willing to take her off of your hands.” He said smoothly. Pog turned an inquisitive glance at him. “She’s pretty but don’t let that fool you. I’ve found her to be quite unwilling to provide comforts of the flesh of any kind, if you catch my meaning.”Pog said with an unsavory smile “Still, she’s young and good for a lot of work yet. Plus she can sing which adds to value... 400 credits.” “For a disobedient slave with a violent streak? 200. No more.” He stuck out his hand. Pog’s expression twisted as he considered her prone form on the ground. “ Deal.” he agreed as he clasped the bounty hunters hand. “Good luck to you my friend. You will need it.” he pressed her data pad into his hand. “Load this cargo for the man!” Pog ordered the droids. “ Not necessary” he said already carrying her up the ramp.
***********
Laying her down on the floor of the cockpit he ran the data pad over her. It didn’t register a chip. Strange he thought. He’d removed her pack and set it in the copilot seat. Gently hooking his forefinger under her chin he turned her face to better see it. Itwas plain she’d probably have at least one black eye.
Carefully , he rolled her over onto right her side and pressed around gingerly on her spine and rib cage to make sure nothing was broken. The back collar of her oversized striped shirt was wet with fresh blood. Investigating he found a small but deep incision. It may need stitches. For now it was clean enough. A beep accompanied by a rhythmic buzz drew his attention to a small device in her right back pocket. Pulling it out, it had a smooth glossy exterior. White but shot with grey, like stone and held closed with a magnetic tab. Flipping it open, the device screen lit up displaying numbers and messages in a language he couldn’t read on a background depicting a clear blue sky colored by the light of sunrise on a cloud bank. The inside of the cover was slotted and held several hard variously colored cards . One appeared to be official identification of some kind as it had her image on it against a blue background. This one had a holographic watermark laid over her photo and the text. Very strange indeed. He closed the cover and set it aside. In her pack he found a light weight black cordless headset of some kind, and various small pieces of white paper nearly completely faded. He could make out more letters of the strange language and seemingly random numbers. In addition a change of clothes and several small bottle of a sweetly scented liquid with small blue orbs held in suspension and four crystal points, one clear one black one purple and one pale pink wrapped in a scrap of grey fabric. At the very bottom of the pack he discovered a surgical blade of Couroscanti manufacture. Solved the mystery of where the chip went he thought to himself. Rising to his feet he busied himself with preflight checks. She’s be out a while but it would probably be better if they were far away from here when she came around.
All bisexuals either want to be a cowboy or a space man.
Except me. I want to be both.
Both is good.

A dramatization of the defining event of my day
All the hot girls are at Trader Joe’s and Target!! They don’t go to the clubs and bars.
Can confirm
Spooky Shopkeeper: The price may be more than you expect to pay.
Me: Yes, I know how US taxes work, too.
Shopkeeper, increasingly exasperated: I’m trying to tell you that I’m evil and offering these wares with no regard for the harm they will do!
Me, also increasingly exasperated: I know what capitalism is too goddammit
im a simple woman i laugh at my own posts and i torture my digestive system with my tendency to obey every single one of my cravings without question
I can relate to this
Some instinct I possess is desperately trying to convince me that perhaps mixing pepperonis and pumpkin spice egg nog is in fact a disaster in the making. But alas, so is life.
Switched back into It’s Cold Outside™️ mode. Is there anything nicer than that fresh sheets feeling?
So proud of you for this. Nobody else stepping up is the reason we as women get scared when dealing with strange men. Because she like this be happening and nobody wants to say anything and even when somebody does the attacker usually gets hosyile for not getting what they want. That shit is scary.
