thinking about the public sex in leviticus… (the photo booth, ryan motioning for naim to follow him to the bathroom, the bus scene.) the willingness to participate in public sex has to have a certain amount of shamelessness, even if it the shame is apart of the appeal, and a certain disregard for others. meanwhile, homophobic rhetoric deems queer sex as “sexual deviancy” that seeped fear into our own communities against free sexual expression and kink. the fact that ryan and naim have a tendency for public sex is contradictory to the shame that is forced upon them. they indulge in the risk, they’re unapologetic about their desire for each other, they don’t feel the need to hide it- it’s liberating. their shame in themselves was never there to begin with.
