Honestly i wouldnt care much about the horrible rep if getty hadnt paraded the comic around as the most representative wholesome thing ever created. He constantly went back and forth on it too. One moment he would talk about how important it was to represent people and how happy he was that people saw themselves in his characters, the next he would defend himself ciswashing multiple trans men with the excuse of them being his ocs and hymn being allowed to do whatever he wanted with them. As long as people were talking positively about sparklecare, it was okay to treat it as a regular webcomic. But the moment someone had something to say about the horrible rep and stereotypes, getty would freak out and start venting about how it was his trauma comic with his vent ocs and people who didnt like every bit of it were evil victim haters. Its crazy how almost everyone in the fandom let this behavior slide, either because they didnt want to hurt his feelings or didnt want to become a target for harassment from his whiteknights.
