Like a knife through Pinellas County, the first leg of I-275 – from the Howard Frankland Bridge to 4th Street N – opened to considerable local opposition in 1973.  I-275 as we know it today was completed in fits and starts throughout the rest of the 1970s and 80s, but the original plans from 1955 looked like this:
