First shown in 1972, designed by Gian Paolo Boano at Centro Stile Fiat, the X/23 was a programme to create an electric microcar for urban use. By 1976, a 14 kW full electric drivetrain had been developed, with regenerative braking, providing a top speed of 72 km/h (45 mph) and a claimed range of about 80 km (50 miles). Cost considerations and the limitations of 1970s battery technology prevented it from becoming a production model
