Hey, look, I made a box. This is a Christmas present for a friend. I’ve got a lot more presents to make, so I’ll probably post the cool ones as I go.
Out of Place
It's not perfect, but here, have a self portrait.
Portrait of my friend and her husband with 1st Corinthians 13:4-8 by request.
Back after a long time and it’s another non-fandom post. But this art assignment was a lot of fun even though it was simple. By direction of Sopheap Pich,we were tasked with cutting an object in half and pressing it to a surface with paint.
This was easiest to cut with scissors, and I chose to cut length-wise so its unique shape would remain intact.
I wanted to create something to hang up, so I painted a background on canvas first. Then I used the white gloss and smeared it with the paper cup for a scratchy effect.
I didn’t get any photos of the printing process, which I should have, but I chose the blue-green to contrast the fiery orange. I did a print of each half, then some of the top and bottom of one of the halves. I hung it up wet and it dripped, which I actually like.
So that’s my result for this week’s art assignment! I actually had it done days ago, but I keep forgetting to post it.
In memory of an amazing actor and a phenomenal human being. I couldn't sleep last night until I finished this.
Here we go again with a new Art Assignment! This week, Fritz Haeg tasked us with making a rug out of old clothing. I happened to have a bag of shirts I was planning on donating, but they were donated to the cause of art instead.
I cut as I went so I didn’t end up cutting shirts I didn’t need. I started out intending to rainbow out from the middle, but since I was missing yellow and green, this idea was scrapped.
I got a fair ways before realizing I was making more of a bag than a rug, so I had to let out a lot of it and start over, adding more stitches this time around.
When I was cutting the last few shirts, I got to one of my old University of Pennsylvania T’s that has the School of Arts and Sciences crest on it. It made me think about when I had purchased the shirt and all the memories at Penn, and I got kind of nostalgic and sad.
I really looked at all of the shirts I was using, some of which I’d had for eight years. Each one has a story, either of when I got it, when I would wear it, or whom it reminded me of. The center shirt was one I used to wear on Christmas Day, and the orange one was my Samhain shirt for school after I started exploring Wicca. Two of the shirts were Beatles T’s that my step mom had gotten me for Christmas, and one of the blue one’s was a gift from my mother in law from her trip to Israel. Two of them were Penn shirts, another from when I worked at a bar in college, and all of them had had a purpose at one time.
I realized that I was using objects from my past to create something for my future, and that’s how I like to live my life. All my choices build a foundation for who I am and what I do, including the bad choices. It made me realize that I’ve come farther than I thought, and I’m still moving forward. What was once clothing is now a very soft meditation rug.
I really enjoyed this art assignment, and I hope you guys will give it a shot. Function meets art and yields a result of which you’ll be proud. Mine even rolls up into a perfect travel pillow!
I cannot stop editing this one. Now we have a tormented, fiery Dean. I'll stop when this stops being fun.
Since I haven't posted anything new in a while, here is an edit of a previous drawing. Decided to see how it looked a bit warmer.
Playing with some TARDIS art. Having a hard time picking a favorite.
Pride goeth before the fall.
Another birthday gift! This one for my lovely friend Naomi. Happy Birthday love!
I know this isn’t fan art, but I decided to take on Kate Gilmore’s Art Assignment, and this is my result. The task was to:
So I set out to do just that. I wanted to create something that would represent a specific memory to me other than just making the piece. I decided to have my son join me in walking on the board and let it demonstrate how we play.
I decided on this bright orange because I planned to take the board outside and utilize dirt and grass and such to help mark it up, and I thought it would show up well on a bright color like that. Plus, I love orange.
Here are our fabulous shoes, attached to our feet ready to do some walking!
I quickly realized that in the middle of the patio like that gave my son little opportunity to run over it of his own volition, so I moved it to the stairs.
After about an hour or so, we came inside. I coated the board with matte finish so the dirt wouldn’t come off, and painted the title on the bottom.
So that’s my crack at this Art Assignment! I loved doing it, and I hope you guys are now inspired to do your own!
More experimentation with a new app. Not my best, but it started as just wings, so.
