There was time to spare after arriving. The worry of elaborating to allow him a clearer picture of what he was walking into permeated throughout the journey and wait. The terms had been set without her consent. Numerous times her fingers added further detail which was never delivered in bout of trepidation. His gentle heart, would it ache more from awareness or ignorance? Without understanding why, she had taken to soaking in the sights around her more thoroughly, as if dreaded that it be her final opportunity. This was no Time Temple, yet the stakes felt easily escalated in its shadow.
Her knees quivered with automatic anxiety; each Singularity brought with them fear which drove her on as much terrify her — the present seem no different. Might she had grown past this in his Chaldean todays? Hurried footfalls rotated her frame to greet him, guilty smile on her face. “Sorry to call you out here so suddenly, on today of all days”. The smile faded, yet unrest not so easily masked by enforced sternness did not yet. “I’m worried this won’t sit and wait”.
“You don’t have to apologize at all, Mashu.” Be it New Year’s, Easter, Halloween, or even Summer vacation - no matter what happens, he, and his sister too, would hardly think twice before coming to their Servant, and kouhai’s, aid. Further explanation isn’t even necessary, either. No matter what it is, if something troubles her, then it troubles Gudao as well. It has always been like that, and it will continue to be such.
But of course, even then, Gudao is still human. There’s something nostalgic in Mashu’s attire, one he has gotten used to seeing her wearing for the front lines for a year, but one he hasn’t seen in two. In his memories, she looks completely different. Here, it’s almost like they’re back to those old, easy days.
To match her, he has come with the old Chaldean uniform, too. The pure white makes the Master feel like he’s inexperienced and utterly naive again. “It has been a long time since we’ve fought together, hasn’t it?” And through it all - he smiles. Small, and weak, but there’s some light in it. Some genuine happiness, and weird excitement. It feels right, even if his memories tell him it hasn’t been all that long ago. “Hopefully I’ll be able to support you appropriately..- no. I will most certainly not let you down, Mashu.”
