This is me....4 weeks into my prep. I have another 15 weeks to go, lots of changes to be made:)
December 18
December 18 Ive been on the fence about doing a bikini/figure competition for over a year now. I want do one but i dont….. id almost say yes and then something inside me would say no….. i have nothing against doing them but… i just couldt commit. A few months ago my trainer sugested that i try prepping for a photo shoot instead. When she mentioned it it was like thee answer to a year long question! I want to go through all the motions of a prep without the having to step on stage. SO…. 2 weeks ago we decided NOW is the time! My first cut was….. well….. initially hard lol. the first day i went o bed an hour early because i was hungry and didnt want to give into the temptation of eating. The next day i had a little chat with myslef it went something like this “this is day one and your struggling?! this is ridiculous! if you cant do this now, how on earth will you be able to handle another 16 weeks and far more cuts?!” the conversation with myself ended in pulling up my socks and giving it 100%. Within 2 days i already felt like my body was starting to adjust to the less food and had re gained my motivation. At last weeks check in my trainer adjusted my workouts a bit and added an extra day of training. This made me very happy as i love working out:) I am already starting to feel my body starting to lean out and the extra days in the gym make me excited about getting my muscles to show through more. Today i checked in again and everything so far appears to be going quite well. We are keeping my food at the same amounts but we will be adding one day of HIT training to my program. HIT (high intensity training) is something ive never done before so im excited to be doing something new. at 16.5 weeks out im feeling very motivated and excited! 5 years ago if someone had said i would be training to do a fitness photoshoot i would have laughed….. very loudly laughed! and now look at me go:) I will be posting pictures of my progress as i go… stay tuned for more
January 2
Well christmas has come and gone and I survived! I took 2 days off tracking (i was still mindful of what i ate, i just didnt weigh and track) I didnt gain any weight, i didnt blow up like a ballon (i did feel very lethargic when i worked out the next day, my strength was quite as good as normal) but that was back to normal in a few days. When a person lets go of the fear of what will happen if our ‘diet’ isnt followed to the letter its amazing how little it actually affects our bodies! The fear of the food is the main thing that does the damage! Food should NOT be feared! It should be enjoyed and savored and can be used as a tool to our benefit. Not as something to be scared of.
Now that being said…. Since i have committed to doing this photoshoot im starting to notice my scrutiny of my check in photos is getting a lot more…. intense. Not scrutiny from my trainer but myself judging my pictures. i find im saying things like “oh my stomach still hangs over there, my calves have no definition, still no cap on my shoulders” where as i used to look at my pictures and think “yay im not fatter hahaha” I think this may be something i will need to keep in check and if it gets worse i may need to re evaluate my 'why’ for doing this photo shoot.
I started the first couple of weeks just enjoying seeing any kind of change, big, small, not at all. Just enjoying the process. Now im fearing it is getting to my head in a bad way.
Pray and keep going:)
Being Fit
If a person looks at being fit as being a 3 dimensional idea, it gives a whole different perspective on how 'fit' i am. Looking at fitness as being about the emotion, mental and the physical. I feel strong but have never thought much about the toll my strength takes on my emotional and mental well being. With my strength comes a lot of pressure on myself to maintain the gains ive made and to be accountable for the food i eat. I feel healthier because i eat well and am very active, however i focus a lot of my mind on when to eat, what to eat, when to workout, how hard should i push myself.... I would say at times my mental 'clarity' is not as sharp as i could be if my focus wasnt always on myself. I would like to discover more balance in my life...... but yet balance scares me! What does balance mean....
How do we exist in a world of doing?
In this world we are constantly being pushed to always be doing something... enrolled in school, training for a show... getting married... having babies.. the list goes on. You see someone you haven't seen in a while and they ask what you've been up to, suddenly you feel an urge to make whatever it is you've been doing sound supper exciting! WHY? Why do we always have to be accomplishing something? I've been studying natural nutrition for the last year and in my text books we are taught a term, 'homeostasis', this means that body systems are in balance. When you can carry out your day to day without any major highs or lows in your body then you have reached Homeostasis. So should our lives possibly be treated the same way? why pressure ourselves to do so many things for the satisfaction of others? If our balance at this moment is just existing.
Its not to say that accomplishing things is a bad thing, if that is what you are needing to bring balance into your life, then great! DO IT:) But don't feel pressure to do something for external reasons, lets bring our balance back to where it works for us, NOT others.
Perseption
It will never cease to amaze me how small of a thing can alter ones day, whether it be for the better or worse. sometimes it may be a detour in traffic that makes us late for an appointment or you pas someone on the street and they smile at you and it makes you happy.
The number one thing I have learnt over the years from these small experiences that could so drastically change my day was that I have the choice as to what way it changes my day......Let that sink in for a moment... YOU have the choice to decide, "How will I perceive this one moment in time?"
We have the choice to decide if something is going to be seen as either good or bad. Is this challenge that your going through at this time going to be the thing that breaks you or makes you stronger? Acknowledging that we have that choice can be an overwhelming thought, "but how is this choice mine?" Because perception is reality . We have the choice to perceive things the way we want to....And which ever way we consistently choose to see things is the way that will get stronger. If in most circumstances you choose to see the good, it will become easier and easier to see the good even in the darkest of circumstances.
Over a year ago I decided it was time to make a change in my life. Id been going to the gym for 4 years, had multiple different trainers (some good, some not so good) but I new I needed more... So my sister gave me the idea to hire a nutrition coach. So I did. I didn't know what it meant to have a 'nutrition coach' I didn't know what the process would look like or how long I would stick with it, I just new it sounded like a good idea at the time. I also didn't even know that I had a bad relationship with food at the time.
Boy was I wrong! Food is our friend! It should be cherished and respected! not feared. I didn't have an eating disorder, I was just grossly mis informed with the importance of a healthy balance of foods and eating to nourish my body.
I thought my relationship with my coach was going to be that of data... I give her my information, she tweaks a few things here or there then tells me what to do and off I go... I could not have been more wrong!
I have grown to love and appreciate my coach so much! She is supportive, encouraging and motivational, she is now my friend, my confidant and my coach.
She has opened my eyes to understand the importance of having a healthy relationship with food and how that food relationship is so closely connected with having a healthy relationship with oneself.
I've hated myself at times, I've disrespected my body, my mind and my soul. All the while wondering why wont my body respond the way I want it to?
This journey is opening my eyes to the answer to so many questions ive had over the years and I cant wait to start sharing my answers!
Stay tuned for more...
