Hi hello and happy new year! As the old saying goes: new year, new me (or at least a new persona).

I figured I’d take this opportunity to kind of reintroduce myself :D

I’m Alexis/Lex/Captain Clown. I make digital and traditional art, mostly visual, but I also enjoy literary and musical arts! I do cosplay too :3

Hello hello!! In this mid book hiatus (which will soon end) I thought it would be fun to hold an art contest!!

Draw whatever you’d like related to the book!

A scene from a chapter, a book cover idea, or just one of the characters! There will be three places!

First place gets a drawn commission from me for free! (If wanted, can be related to the book!)

Second place will receive character merch! This can be a sticker, print, or a bracelet themed for a character.

Third place will get to see the next chapter before it releases!

My only requirements are that I’d like color at the minimum, and nothing NSFW!! Gore is acceptable.

I can’t wait to see all the beautiful art! I will choose a winner on the 18th!!

I googled it once and the only reason why the Great Lakes aren’t called inland seas is because they are entirely freshwater, not salt.

By any other metric they’d be seas. Superior especially (the big one in the upper left) behaves like a small ocean, and has claimed at least 250 ships and over 1000 people. Gordon Lightfoot wrote a frankly chilling song about her that I’ll include here:

I love the Great Lakes, you know how all boats look like shit, like just rusty hulks, you don’t get that on the Great Lakes because it’s fresh water, like the shipwrecks are incredibly well preserved

Big project of the month is finally finished and submitted. Comic is still waiting to be written. There are many more things to be created.

And what am I thinking about?? The singular mozzarella stick sleeping soundly in my fridge as I type this. That’s what’s consuming my brain.

hate when people are like "trust your gut! listen to your intuition!" like okay well my gut is telling me every person i lay eyes on is hunting me for sport and my intuition is saying i should find a secluded cave and live there forever so what do you suggest i do with that information

(Semi-serious answer to joke post incoming) If your gut is sending you endless “UNSAFE!” signals in a situation your logic brain knows is safe, then you trust it by kind of treating it like a conversation with a screaming parrot.

Like going “ok, Gut, what feels unsafe?” And it’ll say “PEOPLE IN THE GROCERY STORE”

and you go, “huh, ok. People in the grocery store aren’t usually dangerous…what makes them scary in the grocery store?” And it’ll go “LOUD AND RUSHED AND BUSY”

and you go “ok, people in the grocery store are probably not dangerous but they’re loud and rushed and busy. Loud and rushed and busy makes me feel stressed. How about we wear earplugs to make it less noisy and go at a less busy time of day?”

And then sometimes you try that and your gut goes “HMMM GROCERY STORE SAFER?” And you go, “yes, grocery store safer.”

Your gut isn’t necessarily correct that the SITUATION is unsafe but it’s usually right that your body/brain FEELS unsafe in the situation. You can trust it by approaching it with curiosity and usually learn something.
