full transcript + the pictures i used under the cut if you don't want to / can't use twitter (completely understandable), just a warning it is LONG
Venxiao AU where upon being subjected to severe physical injury, Venti is temporarily forced out of his human form, and back into his wind spirit form. Xiao doesn't know this.
Note: Author's first fanfic.

Venti doesn't recall how any of this started. All he could focus on right now was the sharp pain in his abdomen, and the visibly panicked Xiao holding him between his arms. Venti's white top was covered in crimson red, as more blood seeped from his mouth. Evident bruises shadowed his body, as well as a minor cut to his face. This is bad, he thought to himself.
He had gotten into similar situations before, but this one was the worst one yet, for a plethora of reasons.
He turned his head to lock his gaze with Xiao's, already knowing what face he'd be making. His eyebrows were furrowed together, his eyes wide open, visible worry written all over his face, trying his best to get Venti to reply to him. Despite knowing Xiao for a long time, he had never seen him in such state. But his own current physical condition didn't allow him to think too thoroughly of this.
Xiao, in his panicked state, was uttering incomprehensible phrases, attempting to reassure Venti that everything was going to be fine. Venti was unresponsive, and all he registered was a bunch of muffled noises. Xiao violently shook Venti's shoulders, but not violently enough to actually hurt him. He was desperate. He didn't want to lose another friend, but this wasn't looking good.
"Venti," Xiao managed to let out between subtle sobs, the pain in his throat growing sharper. "I'll take you to Baizhu's. Just.. breathe okay?" he whispered. But was he perhaps too late? As soon as he got up to carry Venti, he noticed the black and blue cracks on Venti's face. Before he could even react, he watched the life drain out of Venti's eyes like a fog off a peculiar lake, as his body began to disappear. Soon enough, Xiao was holding onto nothing. Whatever breeze circulated that area died out, as if the winds were mourning their now dead archon.
Xiao just stood there. He wasn't sure how to react. His mouth formed an unnoticeable grim line on his face, and his arms stayed in the same position they were, as if he were still holding Venti. He looks down at his two hands, but too slowly, his gesture almost robotic. His eyes could see that Venti was no longer there, but his mind couldn't process that quite yet. The field looked the same as it ever did, but it felt abandoned and empty.
The change in the atmosphere was sudden and dreadful. Just a few moments ago, he was begging Venti to stay with him, but as soon as he felt a singular spark of hope that he might be able to make it in time, all of that dissipated into nothing. That feeling of emptiness laid on his shoulders, right before a much heavier sense or realisation dropped on them. The soul-crushing realisation of knowing that the person who has been with him through thick and thin, the person who brought him peace and comfort amid his exhausting everyday life, the person whom he felt the safest with, the person who understood him most, had just died betweem his very arms.
Xiao looked around, as if he were waiting for Venti to appear out of thin air. He has lost enough friends to know that that is simply not going to happen; but he stilled hoped.
He shed not a single tear. It felt as if he knew this was going to happen at some point. He would've done anything in his power to prevent it, but sometimes this is just how it is. He just stood there for a few minutes, trying to process what just happened but to no avail. Was this really the end?
Almost instinctively, Xiao found himself telporting to Wangshu Inn, maintaining his stiff pose. It felt like he had no control over his body or actions, as if he was being remote controlled by a child. His expression remained rigid and stiff. To the average person, it would be very difficult to tell something was wrong. No one could read him like Venti did, and if he were here, he would have definitely rushed to comfort him.
. . . . . . . . . .
Amid tall blades of grass, lay a dazed, tiny spirit of wind. He looked lost and confused, as if trying to remember how he ended up here. Images of his bloodied form raced through his mind, and it made room for rather unpleasant memories to resurface. Although Venti was fully aware that physical damage is not enough to kill him, he still hated getting injured or bruised. Not only did it hurt, but it also made him feel a bit guilty. Even after all this time, he still remembers the terror he felt back when he witnessed the death of his beloved old friend. He can't seem to forget what he saw that day. Blood was everywhere. He really didn't want to think about it. All that he knew was that the wellbeing of his own human form meant a lot to him.
And all of a sudden, he seemed to recall the chain of events that led him to this situation, memories of his troubled lover holding him as he slipped away from consciousness flooded into his brain. His eyes widened as he realized that Xiao probably thinks Venti is dead. He felt a suffocating feeling of guilt crawl up his body. He knew he had to go find Xiao. And he knew where to find him. Where else would he be, but the inn built specifically for him?
He felt exhausted. It was more of a mental thing than a physical thing. A lot has happened in the last few hours, and it awakened a lot of unwanted memories as well. He used whatever power he had left in him to teleport to the balcony of Wangshu Inn. Xiao was right where Venti assumed he'd be, but he looked very... defeated. He was standing still, arms crossed, laying on the fence, staring out into nothing, but not really. He didn't even notice the wind spirit was there. Venti felt even worse knowing that he was the reason Xiao was in this condition.
Venti approached Xiao slowly. He didn't want to alert Xiao or startle him, but he also wanted to capture his attention. Venti knew that Xiao has never seen him in his wind spirit form before. Venti never really told him. Not because he wanted to be secretive, but because it never crossed his mind to tell him. So he figured this whole interaction is going to be awkward. Venti couldn't talk in his wind spirit form either, which made this even more difficult of a situation. What a predicament...
Venti sat on Xiao's shoulder, and he was so light that Xiao didn't even notice him at first. Xiao didn't really think too much of it. He didn't really care. He just kept staring forward into nothing.
Venti wasn't sure how to communicate with Xiao in this form. Since he couldn't speak, he had to figure out other ways to address Xiao. He then remembered all the special things they'd do together in their free time. He remembered how despite preferring qingxin flowers, Xiao also appreciated cecelias mostly because they were Venti's favorites. He remembered how whenever Venti intended to visit Xiao at Wangshu Inn, he'd blow a gentle yet recognizable breeze his way, and Xiao would immediately figure that Venti was planning to visit that night. Neither him nor Xiao ever told anyone about this, it was like their special little secret between the two of them.
Despite being small, and somewhat weakened, Venti was still the anemo archon. He could manipulate the wind if he pleased to do so. He blew a gentle breeze in Xiao's direction, and he watched his eyes widen a little bit. Venti was sure Xiao recognised the gesture, but he looked more confused than joyful. Venti looked up at him, as if urging him to look his way. When Xiao's gaze locked Venti's, the visible confusion written on his face seemed to be replaced with another, less identifiable emotion. If it weren't for the unfortunate events that just taken place, Venti would have found this cute.
Xiao stares at the little wind spirit on his shoulder, connecting a bunch of dots in his mind. The breeze he just felt, which was something only Xiao and Venti knew about. The miniature cecelia situated on the wind spirit's head. The anemo-themed cloak it was wearing, and the considerate expression on its face, that Xiao could recognise anywhere, even if the wind spirit had no facial features other than its big eyes. Eyes that were staring up at Xiao with a great deal of worry and concern, but also reassurance and care.
"Venti?", the adeptus whispered, and to that, the wind spirit nodded. Some form of awkward silence permeated the atmosphere for a few seconds as they both looked out the balcony. He placed his hand in front of his opposite arm, allowing Venti to softly jump into his palm. Despite the immense relief Xiao felt and the heavy weight taken off his shoulders, he couldn't help but tear up. Today was a lot for him. He was begging for those tears to not come rolling down his face, especially not in front of Venti. Xiao was a silent crier so Venti didn't really notice until he felt Xiao's hand start shaking. He looked back only to realize that Xiao was a wheeping mess, his other hand wiping his own tears and attempting to cover his face.
Venti felt like this was entirely his fault. Normally, he'd rush to comfort Xiao, but he literally can not in this form. He could neither speak to him, nor could he hold him between his arms. Venti figured it was best for Xiao to let his emotions out.
Xiao abruptly cups Venti between both his hands, and brings his closer to his chest as he falls to his knees. For the next few minutes, they both mourn someone who never died.
Â
Venti figured he had some explaining to do when he can turn into his human form again.

Hello!! After seeing what you wrote about xiaoven fics I went to see what things you usually write and omg, your archon Venti headcanons????? I am absolutely in love. So if it isn't annoying, could you talk about xiaoven or Venti or Xiao or whatever ship or character you like? I don't care what you are going to say, I just want to know more about your thoughts ^^
I- is this... bestie, this is essentially a free ramble pass- kerujsgheskdfug. Trust me when I say that in no way is this, and in no way will it ever be annoying in the slightest- i literally- lets just say rambling off thoughts is kind of my specialty, especially when provided a topic to branch off of because otherwise I'm just- really indecisive about it so- iujskdh yeah- 100% definitely down to talk about Venti, Xiao, and/or Xiaoven XD. Also, yes- it may have been awhile since i last posted one(cuz again, indecisive about which direction to take part 5), but the Archon War Era Venti headcanons are still without a doubt my favorite posts I've made. It's just such an interesting topic with such endless potential that so few people actually think about or consider or even realize is there, so i always just get really psyched whenever i see someone interact with them lol.
.... this ended up being a bit of a mess: warning in advance
Anyway! onto the actual content!
