Mar's finger grazes the trigger of her mother's shotgun, hands shaking from her heavy breathing. She butts it against Akani's chest, pressing the weight of her body into the shotgun in order for Akani to truly feel the pressure. Her thumb clicks the rusted release achingly slow, unblinking as she hears the pop of the gears from within the rickety old thing. Akani blinks down at her from beneath her bangs, taking a manual breath in at her confusion. She opens her mouth to say something, but Mar only presses the gun back against her the moment she parts her lips to speak. She dares not to move, more bewildered than afraid of what was about to happen to her body. Mar gulped with her entire body, blinking hard as she swallowed.

“I'll—I'll pull the trigger. If you do anything else.” 

The girl normally had a meek voice, but it sounded as if someone were strangling her. Her heels dug into the ground, holding her quivering body firm against the gun. Akani did not even breathe in response, looking around her face for any sort of explanation. Mar's breath stuttered, choking momentarily. The motion made the gun shift slightly, pressing to the gap between Akani's ribcage. It was only then that she realized her body was soaked, not just in the black water, but the remnants of something that was once there. Her fingers twitch subconsciously, causing Mar to sink into her shoulders and aim the gun a bit higher. The liquid drips onto the mix of stones and grass beneath them, a fine, black smoke sizzling up from the grass where the blood falls. Akani does not feel any wounds on her body, despite the blood acting the same as hers. Mar's eyebrow twitches as she attempts to put on a brave face, showing her true nature.

“Why,” Akani mutters, her voice barely above a whisper. After the word leaves her mouth, her throat feels as if it's just about closed, like she has not spoken in months. Mar's uncharacteristically small pupils dart across Akani's face, seeming to search for something that she does not understand. There's a strange feeling that looms behind Akani, the cold, moist breeze of the coastline brushing against her body. Mar's short and thin hair blows in the mistral, slowly dampening the longer the two stand there with all of the sea water particles that pick up in the gale. Her clothes are a bit too dirty for how often Mar washes that white gown, fussing about it being a hand-me-down far too often. Akani's wear is nothing but cheap rags, the ends fraying as if they were a grain sack. Brown pants are splattered with the black remains of what was once an umbrage, Akani realizes. She feels far too full for once in her life, the subconscious ache that normally permeates her body is void, filled by the absorption of the creature. The thing that strikes her as odd is how afraid Mar seems to be—the same Mar who watches intently as Akani rips the things from head to tail with a curved blade? The same Mar who grew up watching nothing but slaughter? It does not ring right in her mind.

baiza vidal is like if the incomprehensible angel told you to be afraid

How do you think a parent-teacher meeting would go with Baiza in a modern AU. Would Mar go to a christian school

Probably fine, Baiza would be a far better mother if she were a human, just a bit absent. I don't think it would be anything to damage Mar like it does in Lament, and Baiza would properly make up for it. I think she'd find herself smarter than the teachers and try to scold them herself... She would likely go to an all-girls school.

I think the character mar has the strongest parallels to is luc and I wonder if she's going to have a similar ending to cirian. mar is very strongly emphasized as the closest to humans, being nearly identical to them aside from her wings and halo, and since she's technically still not human... I wonder where it'll lead, because with her place in the story and her proximity to the least human character in the series, I'd be surprised if she held onto it until the end (< still very curious about the contract markani made and how much it distanced her from her human aspects). she's well received by humans, she's loved as a human, she's treated as one by basically everyone. not to mention baiza is said to resent her a little bit for her humanity, which I'm interested to see... compare this with luc, who, at the time, was similar to humans as well, loved by them, treated like them (I'm not too sure about this one, but the character descriptions did say baiza resented luc for "thinking she could walk the same grounds as them") and blended in with humans in general; you start to see a clear resemblance between them. they're both made with the same purpose, given a certain proximity to humans and human-like qualities, and are both well-received by others at first. what differs is that this does not last for luc, the gap between her and humans was bigger than mar's, and most importantly, baiza treated them in a very distinct way. that being said, I don't think mar's story is gonna go that far in cirian's direction, but I do think it's gonna be a part of it or loom over the narrative at least a little. I could definitely see this show up for baiza, though, as I wonder if her self image and purpose will be challenged in pandemonium....

our lord and saviour rufkasoda has a talent for giving their characters exceptionally shitty lives but I think the funniest and worst thing they inflicted upon a lament character was making akani 6'7 in every universe. it's just. 😭😭😭. not only is she incredibly well-known for being the only sinner alive and insanely good at killing she's also impossible not to spot in a crowd. tallest in the tall country. her best friend is 5'4 and ready to climb on her and trip her at any moment. free my girl PLEASE

I really appreciate cirian's character because she's annoying and awful solely for the fun of it. not one redeeming quality on this woman. she is here to make everyone's life worse and is entirely unapologetic about it
