I think a really good way for Will to come out in s4 would be for him to find out Robin is a lesbian and he’s like “so how did you know? How did you know that you liked the same sex?” And she starts telling him all the things she went through and the denial and the initial ‘oh shit this isn’t just a crush this is everything’ and we get the scene progressing with Robin walking away but the camera pans in on Will and he just has that look of utter ‘holy s h i t’ because he realizes that everything she has gone through, he’s either also gone through or is going through as they speak. So he runs to her and he’s like “Robin?” And she turns around to look at him with a raise of an eyebrow and he blurts out “I think I’m gay.” And Robin just grins and says “cool little dude. You want some ice cream?” and everything is fine and everyone is supportive and no one is hurt.

ok. imagine. the scene where el dumps mike happens, but the girls aren’t quite on the bus yet when will goes “NOW can we play dnd?” and max thinks about how exasperated he’s been all summer with the relationship bs. and maybe it’s because she wants to deal another blow to lucas and mike, but on a whim max turns around and says “hey will, we’re going to the arcade. wanna come?”

which shocks all of them, of course. but will shocks them the most by saying “.....yeah, okay.” because despite the bit of resentment/jealousy he feels towards el, he is fed!! up!!! with mike and lucas and this is an opportunity to stick it to them. plus, going to the arcade actually sounds like the most fun thing he’s done in the past three days. so he hops on the bus with max and el and they ride off.

and we get a wonderful day of will and the girls bonding. max and will teaching el how to play arcade games. getting food together. swapping stories of the dumb stuff mike and lucas do, and just generally shooting the shit. max trying to teach el and will how to skateboard which just dissolves into everyone laid out on the ground, cackling with laughter. maybe a more specific willel bonding session back at hopper’s cabin where they talk about their experiences with the upside down/MF.

we could even get another scene about will’s sexualityー they have the magazines open in el’s room. max still says “oh, you found ralph macchio. he’s so hot, right?” the camera focuses on will staring at the picture, gulping audibly. or, unrealistic, but maybe will is emboldened by his day of bonding with the girls and gets the courage to whisper “i like river phoenix better.”

picture the utter confusion on hop’s face when he bursts into el’s room and finds the three of them chilling on the floor. the subsequent fallout scenes with mike and lucas could still happen, because as much as nothing like THAT is going on i can’t imagine hop would be okay with a boy at a sleepover, so will goes back to mike’s. it could even add emotional fuel, because now mike and lucas are a little resentful that will “ditched” them to hang with the girls when they’ve been trying so hard to win them back, obviously.

just. ugh. UGH. there are a thousand ways s3 could’ve been better. we could have had it ALL i hate the d*ffers so much it’s unreal
