Art, a Gift to Explore Your Identity

“Thanks for the Adventure, Now Go Have A New One!”

One mode of art I’ve always enjoyed is sketching, particularly cartoons. I have loved using different forms of shading, sketching, and pencil art throughout the semester. This is Carl from the Disney movie Up. I chose the title based on a quote from the movie and thought it was fitting for those of us who are graduating in a few days. Over the course of the semester and especially this last week, I’ve thought about just how lucky I am to have something that is so bittersweet and hard to say goodbye to. As this journey at Bonaventure ends, I am excited to start a new chapter and find out what else there is to explore. Life is an adventure and it’s up to us to make the most of it!

Getting Your Voice Out There in Public Places

I chose to put 6 different encouraging sticky notes in the bathroom of the RC. I chose multiple different quotes from opposing situations people may be going through. For example, I chose to put “focus on the good and the good gets better” for anyone who may be experiencing any negativity. I also put “It will all work out” for all my fellow college graduates who may feel like they are conflicted on what to do next.

Connecting to the Earth

This is my 1st piece called: A Peaceful Nature of Existence

I chose to make a peace sign because I was trying to think of uplifting art. I believe that with the different world events going on and the state of our society, the world needs a little bit more peace. I hope that this will inspire people to be nice to each other, offer more empathy, and let go of any hostility that might be distrupting their peace.

For my sock puppet I made “jace”, who is a guitarist and what better song would go with this than “Master of Puppets”!

My puppets name is Bashar Jackson AKA Pop Smoke an American rapper. He enjoys going to the OP and dancing while having a nice cold beverage. He is dancing to one of his hits Dior. RIP Pop Smoke.

This is my pupped named Cass! She just loves to dance. 💃🕺She enjoys listening to Maroon 5, hence her song choice. Cass also likes to chill at the pool with her friends which is why she had me film her there.

For my Surrealism assignment I created the “2023 limited edition carb purse” by Il Nicastro Lavazza. This designer purse is made with a top quality Italian Barilla pasta box, a classic American minute rice box, and a Rummo pasta noodle as the latch. This emphasizes the “carbohydrate” theme. I also used the string from garbage bag as the string for the purse. This item listed at $845,000.

This is my puppet, Ollie! He is made out of a sock. He likes to stop at Twist and Shake for a nice hot dog and play music in his free time!

For my futurism project, I picked a futuristic version of the iPhone. I think that by the time we reach our 60s, we will be able to physically see each other on a holograph on our phones.

My friend Bhavi posed for my project! I chose multiple different colors to represent all the amazing qualities and traits she exerts! Yellow and orange represent how fun and happy she always is! Purple to show how charismatic and supportive she is. & blues to represent how empathetic and idealistic she is.

For my assignment this week I decided to draw a scene from the movie “Coraline.” As a kid, “Coraline” always frightened me, so I thought it would be funny to now draw her when I’m older and not scared anymore… or am I still…?

I chose Rotate and Roll, a game I completely forgot about but I played a lot in elementary school!

I chose to do my pop culture piece on this Barbie themed magazine. The reason I picked this piece was because I felt it is, unfortunately, too relatable to so many females in this generation. With the immense social media prevalence today, I think that beauty standards have become unrealistic and impractical, making beauty seem unachievable.

Today, it’s overly normalized, especially in celebrity culture, to get work done, wear excessive makeup, or alter their natural beauty in order to be “beautiful”. Social media and public figures, like Kim Kardashian, have constructed these out of the norm beauty standards and expectations. With consumerism being at an all time high, I feel our entire society as a whole has a warped idea of what “beauty” is. Overall, I think this pressures the collective humanity to take extremes to feel “pretty” or “good enough”.

I used decaffeinated tea for my Self Portrait. I let it sit for around 10 minutes. It was somewhat hard to control where it was going with a paintbrush, but it turned out better than expected!
