Happy International Women’s Day! // 2017
Hillary Rodham Clinton - “Women are both smart enough and good enough to be considered for anything they choose to pursue. … We have to teach every girl that she is valuable, powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity to pursue and achieve her own dreams. If we are serious about building a better, stronger and fairer America, we need to be serious about supporting and nurturing our girls. Our country can only fulfill its potential when every single child — particularly, every girl — can fulfill hers.”
Zendaya - “It’s important to raise your voice in things you feel passionate about and things that you know about. Don’t raise your voice just to raise your voice if you have nothing behind it and don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Meghan Markle - “Women need a seat at the table, they need an invitation to be seated there, and in some cases, where this is not available, they need to create their own table. We need a global understanding that we cannot implement change effectively without women’s political participation.”
Queen Rania of Jordan - “A woman caring for her children; a woman striving to excel in the private sector; a woman partnering with her neighbors to make their street safer; a woman running for office to improve her country - they all have something to offer, and the more our societies empower women, the more we receive in return.”
Diane Guerrero - “Even in the best of times, life is a mixed bag of disappointments and triumphs, heartaches and highs. Life hands out all of the above, and we don’t get to pick how many of each we’ll get, or in what order they’ll show up. But we do get to choose how we’ll walk through our days. Whether we’ll cower under our covers ever morning, or rise up to take on the challenges.”
Crown Princess Mary of Denmark - “It is clear that gender equality is not recognized universally, and discrimination and gender-based violence continue to prevail in many societies. We need to address these issues from many angles in the new development agenda, and with a strong focus on adolescent girls. All girls should be able to complete their education – not get kicked out of school because they are pregnant or mothers, or because they live with HIV. All girls and women must be able to decide if, when and with whom to marry and have children. And for all of this, they need their rights recognized and they need access to quality sexual and reproductive health services, information and education. For many young people, the realization that they have rights comes as a revelation… They know they need this information. And they want it.”
Laverne Cox - “I think transwomen, and transpeople in general, show everyone that you can define what it means to be a man or woman on your own terms. A lot of what feminism is about is moving outside of roles and moving outside of expectations of who and what you’re supposed to be to live a more authentic life.”
Beyoncé - “I truly believe that women should be financially independent from their men. And let’s face it, money gives men the power to run the show. It gives men the power to define value. They define what’s sexy. And men define what’s feminine. It’s ridiculous.”
Wendy Davis - “I’ve found that the things worth fighting for are always the hardest. There is meaning in each of these fights, in speaking truth to power and giving voice to unpopular causes. There is value in fighting for something important to you, even when the outcome is not what you hoped it would be. So my advice to you: if you fail, fail big! Fail with flair! Fail trying to do something real, something hard.”
Michelle Obama - “Men in every country need to look into their hearts and souls and ask themselves whether they truly view and treat women as their equals. And then when you all encounter men in your lives who answer no to that question, then you need to take them to task. You need to tell them that any man who uses his strength to oppress women is a coward, and he is holding back the progress of his family and his country.”
“I didn’t enjoy life very much because I was always sacrificing for the future. My whole life was about studying and working. I worked so many jobs. I went to college. I got my MBA. I didn’t travel very much. I didn’t get married. I didn’t have kids. All I wanted to do was feel secure. But I’ve had bad health problems my entire life. So I haven’t been able to save. And two weeks ago I lost my job. The job market is brutal when you’re my age. People don’t think you can learn new things. I can’t even get work as a clerk because they think I’m overqualified. I have no money now. I can barely afford food and transportation. I’ve spent my whole life sacrificing—just to one day feel secure. But it seems like it was all for nothing. And I have no idea what to do.” (São Paulo, Brazil)

Another week, another midterm
Tip #1: study with me videos I know I just randomly threw a studying tip in. If you guys don’t feel productive or if you dont have a study partner or you don’t want to study with your friends because they can be distracting (my problem :/) then you guys should try the study with me videos on YouTube. It’s really motivating to see someone working and studying just as hard. There’s a lot of videos out there if you just search “study with me videos” but my personal fav youtuber is Thestrivetofit!!
Good luck to everyone who has midterms or exams right now !! Ok back to studying 👋🏽👋🏽
Watch: The most wonderful moment of joy came when he entered a Nazi guard bungalow.
We are the last generation who can hear from these survivors directly. Do not take that lightly. Do not waste that opportunity. Do not forget your freedom isn’t infinitely guarenteed. And do not, do not, let it happen again.
Really truly, watch the video, reblog it. Teaching about the holocaust is so necessary for our generation before it slips under the rug and people forget about it.
Sage advice. See more highlights from Drake’s superb SNL.

My heart
At age 23, Tina Fey was working at a YMCA. At age 23, Oprah was fired from her first reporting job. At age 24, Stephen King was working as a janitor and living in a trailer.
At age 27, Vincent Van Gogh failed as a missionary and decided to go to art school. At age 28, J.K. Rowling was a suicidal single parent living on welfare.
At age 28, Wayne Coyne ( from The Flaming Lips) was a fry cook. At age 30, Harrison Ford was a carpenter. At age 30, Martha Stewart was a stockbroker. At age 37, Ang Lee was a stay-at-home-dad working odd jobs. Julia Child released her first cookbook at age 39, and got her own cooking show at age 51. Vera Wang failed to make the Olympic figure skating team, didn’t get the Editor-in-Chief position at Vogue, and designed her first dress at age 40. Stan Lee didn’t release his first big comic book until he was 40. Alan Rickman gave up his graphic design career and landed his first movie role at age 42. Samuel L. Jackson didn’t get his first major movie role until he was 46.
Morgan Freeman landed his first major movie role at age 52. Kathryn Bigelow won the Academy Award for Best Director when she made The Hurt Locker at age 57. Grandma Moses didn’t begin her painting career until age 76. Louise Bourgeois didn’t become a famous artist until she was 78. Whatever your dream is, it is not too late to achieve it. You aren’t a failure because you haven’t found fame and fortune by the age of 21. Hell, it’s okay if you don’t even know what your dream is yet. Even if you’re flipping burgers, waiting tables or answering phones today, you never know where you’ll end up tomorrow. Never tell yourself you’re too old to make it.
Never tell yourself you missed your chance.
Never tell yourself that you aren’t good enough.
You can do it. Whatever it is.
Holy shit this is inspiring

1st post !
Hey ! So I guess this is my first post on this booklr ! To be honest, I did not find out about this community until like maybe 2 days ago ! And I’m happy that I did because I love interacting with people who has the same interests as me, and in this case its the love for books ! With that being said, hello to you ! :)
Why do I like reading? I guess thats a pretty standard question, my friends ask me that all the time because I would rather be immersed in a book sometimes than go out. And the answer is simple, its because books help you pause reality for awhile. When I’m reading a book, I feel like I’m taken out of my room and placed inside the story. For that moment I become the protagonist, antagonist, the best friend, the parent, the sibling etc. And its amazing that books are able to take you to another place, and lets you become part of this different place. Each book is a different world, different perspective, different story!
Anyways, that’s my little ramble ! :) If you have any questions or if you just want to talk about books and such just press that little ask button at the top ! Have an awesome day :) !!
i dont like finishing books

It’s been a few years but I’m pretty sure this was my exact reaction to Deathly Hallows (except it was 5AMish).

Apparently there’s supposed to be a big snowstorm tonight so I decided to stay at home to study for my Bio midterm on Thursday and for my Psych midterm on Saturday. I am definitely not loving the fact that its at 9 am on a Saturday, but at least I have the rest of the day to relax ! I hope everyone’s week is great so far even though its only Tuesday ! xoxo
