In Denmark, it is tradition for crowds to gather on Amalienborg’s courtyard and for the royal family to appear on the palace balcony for the Queen’s birthday and other prominent birthdays and jubilees within the Danish royal family. Although no such event had been planned for Mary even before COVID-19 caused much of her official birthday celebrations to be cancelled, hundreds of people still braved the cold to wish her a happy birthday 🇩🇰
