In the summer of 2025, wildfires across Canada burned about 73,000 square kilometres of land – more than double the 10-year national average. In B.C., that year was less destructive compared to the previous two wildfire seasons, according to the province. Still, wildfires burned roughly 8,860 square kilometres of land. Now, a new report has found that wildfire smoke is a leading source of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution in B.C. "This isn’t a one-time-in-a-life exposure anymore," said Prem Gundarah, health initiatives manager with the B.C. Lung Foundation, which released its State of the Air report on Monday.

every year small towns and indigenous communities across canada are burnt to nothing by horrific wildfires and americans go on the internet to complain about it and blame us bc the smoke has spread to their state. i’m so tired.

go yell at mark carney or your own local politicians about climate change and urge them to do more to stop it. the namaygoosisagagun first nation had their community destroyed today. you can find a link to donate to them here. donate to your local food bank. go to the beach next week when the smoke clears and you don’t have to think about it anymore while the people who’s lives have been destroyed will have to pick up the pieces and try to move forward when we are already in a huge cost of living crisis across the country.

We also had slavery. it's just never talked about. Theres the residential schools in which the last one closed less than 3 decades ago. The government also signed a 50 million dollar contract with Palantir. The PM is also allowing Danielle Smith to create an illegal 2 tier heathcare system in Alberta, among many other issues like massively extractive mining operations worldwide and the entire country being an oligopoly. And so much more

Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced Friday that he and other Conservative party MPs will oppose the ratification of the K'omoks First Nation's treaty.

Speaking in West Vancouver, Poilievre called for the treaty, drafted between the K'omoks First Nation, the province and Canada, to be put on hold, claiming it fails to "explicitly and clearly protect property rights."

The treaty passed in the B.C. Legislature this spring, and Parliament is expected to vote on its ratification next year.

"Conservatives will stand up for property rights, for your home, for economic development, for our economy, and for affordability by voting against the K'omoks treaty," he said, encouraging Canadians to tell their MPs to do the same.

K'omoks First Nation Chief Coun. Nicole Rempel said the Conservative leader's description of the treaty isn't accurate.

"If Mr. Poilievre had taken the time to read the treaty in full rather than just the talking points, I think he would have a better grasp of the treaty and what it means," she said.

An archaeological field school at a national historic site near Fort St. John, B.C., is offering a look into 12,500 years of First Nations history, finding pieces of ancient stone tools and animal bones. Tse'k'wa is owned by Doig River, Prophet River, and West Moberly First Nations, whose Dane-zaa ancestors inhabited the site for generations. "It's an ancient site, an ancient archeological site.
