I am Engineer Walid Al-Qatrawi. I am 36 years old, a father of three children: Adam, Hala, and Nay. I was born and raised in Gaza, where my family and I have spent our entire lives.

Because of the ongoing conflict, we have been forced to leave our home and relocate multiple times in search of safety. Today, my family and I are displaced in southern Gaza, living in a fragile tent that does not provide the protection and stability my children need.

After repeated displacement, my children have lost the sense of security and normal life they once knew. Every day, we struggle to provide them with a safe and dignified environment. Our tent offers very limited protection from harsh conditions and the challenges of displacement. ...okay so that actually happened. Normally, given just 'X posted upskirt of Y', I'd be somewhat inclined to try and find the photo or otherwise determine the degree to which it reads as an 'upskirt' but the "debaaaaateeee meeeeeee" context makes it fairly clear the picture was intended to be humilating or otherwise upsetting so thankfully I don't have to bother.

Some people in disability spaces need to understand that there are levels and some people and groups WILL take priority over you in conversations.

I need a wheelchair on bad pain days, people who are less ambulatory than I am or are paralyzed will take priority over me when talking about accomidationis.

I have a mental disability, people with lower functioning disabilities will take priority over me in conversations about medical abuse or malpractice.

I am a white disabled person, people of color will take priority over me in conversations about discrimination and hate crimes.

I could keep going but the point is the same. To thrive as a community we need to understand that there are people who have higher needs and need more support and space in conversations and THATS OK. It’s not invalidating your disability to let someone have a seat at the table.
