Feeling overwhelmed this morning. As the semester ends, my gaze is forward, thoughts consumed by the future. So many places to go, people to see, things to do and never enough time. Running around like a mad man while my reading list grows and the garden withers, fulfilling capitalism’s “work till you die” narrative. Countless doors opening and shutting before me as I calculate which one will lead to the life I long for; all the while the clock tick-tocks above my head. It’s like going to a restaurant with a 14 page menu and you know you’ll never be confident that the meal you choose is the right one for you. But at least I’m given a choice, let alone fed at all, ya know?
In my pursuit of a full life, I tend to forget to live in the present moment, to notice the air I’m breathing, and the body this wild mind resides in. These times call for silence and space, stillness and some sunshine (if I’m lucky). Recall perspective and meditate on intention. Leave the rat race to the rodents and notice the unique path you’re on, an experience different from anything else that’s been or will be. Breathe in gratitude and exhale bullshit, allow yourself to love the space you inhabit, and permit pride of the person you are and continue to become. Stay soft friends, we weren’t meant for the system that hardens us; remain fluid in a society that demands borders. Don’t worry about “getting there”, you’ve always been here.
