I wanted to make an informational video about splitting, but tbh I was too depressed and this was the result. I reveal my struggles as a high functioning Borderline and what emotional triggers, going to school, and splitting are like from my point of view. I cry midway and it was soooo hard to edit. i saw this post earlier that said that people take star wars too seriously and completely agree. some of y’all make star wars to be some kind of horror story, comparing it to real life politics and whatnot when really it’s literally a movie for kids. literally ten to twelve year olds. do you think a little kid sees darth vader and says “wow, you’re such a terrible person because you failed to protect padme and turned in a space hitler,” or a kid seeing kylo ren at disneyland and saying “you’re a neonazi and your relationship with rey is manipulative and abusive”???? no, because star wars is a movie about good guys and bad guys fighting with light up sticks with some romance blended in. it’s meant to be a story of courage and forgiveness, and it really teaches a lesson to kids that the world isn’t black and white, there are so many shades of gray in between. yeah, kids are young and innocent but i think we should be too, at least for star wars movies. i’m tired of people making mountains out of molehills, pulling problems out of thin air and ruining the whole experience for others. all this fighting and shipping wars going on in the star wars fandom is just exhausting.

They were doing subtle things with Ben ‘hitting puberty’ and stepping into manhood in TLJ - messier hair, more pronounced facial shadow, well, obviously - impressive REVEALED physique. In TFA his whole appearance (complete with the Knight Templar outfit) was almost androgynous.

Oh yeah, I head someone tell a story that they fully expected Kylo Ren to be revealed to be a woman when the mask came off in TFA. The same was going on with Rey in TFA with her childish billowy shrouded androgynous clothing + no makeup compared to her TLJ outfits + emerging from the ocean with a little makeup on. Their costumes echo each other with the horizontal stripes running down their arms, and their ‘puberty’ development arcs parallel in this movie, so their clothes and appearance changing too makes sense.

It was definitely androgynous. That’s why I like it so much. Some women like androgyny in men (and/or women), some women prefer a more masculine look… both are good. And I won’t complain if they keep him more masculine in IX.

Unfortunately? And I’ve noticed this because it’s my preference, but when a leading man looks androgynous in film/tv it’s about an inferior state he needs to grow out of.

That kind of makes me sad. Even though there’s nothing wrong with the more masculine look and I’m happy for everyone who enjoys it!

And I get why it’s used as a marker of youth or immaturity, but plenty of people look androgynous as grown-ups because that’s just who they are.

I miss the days of David Bowie, what can I say? lol And there was definitely something Bowie about TFA Kylo.
