#my college best friend has this affliction #i believe his common app college application essay was somehow about screen diodes #when i hung out with him he would make us detour into best buys so he could look at any new android release to judge the screen color #he used to try and convince me and his then boyfriend that most androids were unusable because of the color shift when the screen tilted #he needed to make white pants to match a vintage suit jacket he bought #he told me he was cutting swatches in the fabric store and then running up and down stairs to check them in outdoor lighting vs indoor #because some of the polyesters fluoresced differently in daylight #and having slightly mismatched white was NOT an option

it’s a bummer that bag charms are so linked to the blind box trend and general overconsumption because i really do enjoy the part of my commute every day where i look around the subway car and see what little friends everybody has chosen to carry with them

every time i wind up down a google rabbit hole for vintage technology for my stupid ghost band blog i become dismayed at the current state of design!! everything is a rectangle now!! the world used to be full of a variety of unique and exciting machines!!

i was looking up 16mm film editing equipment and i love it. look at this.

this was not one person who decided to mount the film rewinders and viewer to a giant wooden base, this was just how it was. for many different iterations of the product.

a piece of technology that demands all of your space. i love her.

there is also the projecto-editor which collapses into a little box.

the front flap with the film splicer on it is on a hinge that flips down. the arms for the film reels swivel out. she has a handle so you can take her on the go, for your mobile 16mm editing needs.

i wasn’t sure if i really needed 3ft tall plastic rectangular prisms but if they’re 70% off…

looking at other people talking about tv shows and thinking about how, somehow, as someone who does not really watch tv i DID get sucked into watching every episode of The Closer which turned into reluctantly watching every episode of Major Crimes

and like it is for the best that most people did not watch that show because it was not good and it’s better for my mental health that i did not have to read anybody’s opinions about it but also it feels unfair that other people are not burdened by having to think about every bizarre and awful writing choice

mostly i keep thinking about how in a show of mostly unremarkable characters, the showrunner had his very special OC who he would not give up on and insisted on shoehorning in. i used to look at the comments on the Major Crimes facebook page and it was consistently full of people saying they fucking hate Rusty and think he’s annoying. and yet we had to continue to suffer through nonsense Rusty story arcs. and on some level i respect when someone does fully commit to a really awful idea. may we all be brave enough to have bad taste.

#and i need you to understand that Major Crimes exists only because people hypothetically liked the ensemble characters from The Closer #Rusty was not part of that ensemble #Major Crimes can maybe exist as a standalone show because people like the format of police procedurals and it works well for tv #Rusty was not part of the police force and did not contribute to the crime stories #you’re watching them solve a case and then you have to waste 5 minutes of your life on Rusty getting his first boyfriend #not to mention his overall character arc was nonsensical #like we’d just totally lost sight of every defining trait he had when he was introduced as a character

i was so deeply locked in to working on this awful puzzle i made as an art project that i did not realize i had been sitting on the floor, hunched over for six hours

i checked the clock thinking it would be like 1:30am and it was in fact 3am and then i decided to put another hour into it so i will actually be unable to move tomorrow

for the record my idea of an art project is laser cutting 3600ish monochrome acrylic puzzle pieces to make a 5ft wide puzzle that is ugly, heavy, expensive and time consuming to produce, not fun to assemble and of the red lobster logo

i have no opportunity to display this nor do i have any idea how i would hang this for display, but sometimes the laser whispers to me like the ghosts in field of dreams and i just have to make something and believe everything else will fall into place later

also it’s missing two pieces that i broke but the cool thing about this puzzle is when there’s no image alignment to worry about, you can always recut pieces
