Celedriel Week - Day 7 - The West

There are no tears at their parting, and no promises.

He doesn't see it when she sobs on her brother’s shoulder like a brokenhearted maiden, thus making him vehemently hate Celeborn for two whole days until she regains her senses and forbids to speak ill of him.

She doesn't see it when he gazes at the sea, longing for sea-longing. He sits on a lonely beach for a long time, threading his fingers through sand, waiting for the sea to call to him, as an aching cavern grows in his chest, and in the quiet murmur of the waves he lets it ripen and burst, and cries at last clear briny tears. *** As the Last Ship docks, he searches for familiar faces in the hopeful crowd. Celebrían is at the front, anxious and clear-eyed, squeezing Elrond’s arm, and on the other side from her Celeborn’s brother raises his arm in greeting, and the joyous cry Celeborn lets out is lost among many others.

The crowd has almost dissolved when he finally reaches Galadriel. Silent tears stream down her face, and her gaze is so soft that the words of regret dissolve on his tongue. They kiss and both taste salt.

Celedriel Week - Day 6 - Lothlorien. Children

They bade farewell to Celebrían and returned to Lothlorien apart, resentment having taken root in their desolate hearts. At Caras Galadhon for days they couldn’t bear each other's company, for at the sight of the other’s proud face neither could help but start ascribing blame, no matter to their spouse or themself.

Then one day Celeborn came to their bedchamber to fetch at last his pillow and heard Galadriel before he saw her, sobbing, stripped of all queenliness, sprawled on the floor like a big white bird, wounded so cruelly and carelessly that she can neither take flight again nor slip into oblivion. When she looked up at him, eyes bright with pain, and rage, and love, and that same grief that was clawing at his throat, refusing to melt into tears, he was suddenly taken with pity. 

Later that night she held him as he howled and gasped for air, and whispered assurances into his ear about the bliss of Valinor, and how kind and skilled at healing her kin beyond the Sea are, thus building a talan for them to stand on for centuries to come.

That was the last time he saw her weep before they parted.

Celedriel Week - Day 5 - War and Loss

(this one intersects slightly with Imagine a Man)

The second time was after they were reunited and headed north, still unsure of each other and themselves. Once, a few days into their journey, Galadriel stopped, dropped her pack to the ground and let out a mournful sob. She lay her head on his chest and wailed wordlessly, hot tears soaking through his shirt as he held her, helpless to offer any other consolation. It ended as abruptly as it started, like a summer rain. And when she held his hand to her lips, he dimly knew that she’d been mourning his losses too, for he had confided to her that since his captivity he couldn’t weep for grief, bitter tears burning in his heart but wouldn’t be released.

Galadriel waited patiently for him to truly see the enormity of it and desperately wished to stave the moment off. It took months for his mind to shed the murky dust of imprisonment, for the thought to gnaw its way to the surface, but when it did he woke up with a scream.

‘I wasn’t there!’ He rasped. ‘All was lost and I wasn’t there! Is this what it means to survive? To fail everything and everyone you hold dear?’

Celedriel Week - Day 4 - The Heart Endures

(belated; if you notice an odd film reference, you're not imagining it)

It was as if a part of her had been expecting it for a while. Not a true foresight, but readiness, so that when the tidings reached them that the siege had been broken and her brothers had perished, Galadriel sighed, and nodded, and found herself unable to shed a single tear. Thus she was grateful for Celeborn mourning with her, weeping for her without reserve.

Her fallen brothers had believed it their duty and their honour to live boldly. She’d been of similar persuasion before she’d crossed the Grinding Ice. Now life at Thingol’s court and love of his kinsman had soothed her aches, for better and for worse.

With every sleepless night and every ashen day she grew more convinced that there would be no host of Doriath to march alongside the Noldor. As dullness gave way to restlessness, her gaze turned East, and she considered uprooting herself once again, and her settled husband with her. 

Yet it was as if a part of him had been expecting it for a while. Together they stood before the Queen and paid heed to her counsel.

‘Go,’ said Melian the Maia. ‘Go now and don't look back.’

So they did.

The chamber was filled with a soft light; its walls were green and silver and its roof of gold. Many Elves were seated there. On two chairs beneath the bole of the tree and canopied by a living bough there sat, side by side, Celeborn and Galadriel. They stood up to greet their guests, after the manner of Elves, even those who were accounted mighty kings. Very tall they were, and the Lady no less tall than the Lord; and they were grave and beautiful. They were clad wholly in white; and the hair of the Lady was of deep gold, and the hair of the Lord Celeborn was of silver long and bright; but no sign of age was upon them, unless it were in the depths of their eyes; for these were keen as lances in the starlight, and yet profound, the wells of deep memory.

Celedriel Week - Day 1 - The Heart Stirs

(this is meant to be a set of double-drabbles with TRoP in its root and taking some liberties with the lore)

Thrice he's seen her weep in the three Ages that he’s known her.

The first time was at the dawn of their friendship, before she was Galadriel, before he was hers. Her brothers still lived, and the Shadow was besieged in the North, yet he once found her curled onto herself in a hidden glade, weeping silently, hopelessly, inconsolably. Although new to this land and distraught, she seemed strangely at peace with the place, or rather the forest at peace with her, offering her the comfort of its soft grasses, and solid branches, and sweet flowers, and Celeborn. 

He stepped on a dry twig to make his presence known, and when she stirred but didn’t startle he approached, descended into the embrace of white clover next to her and wrapped a cautious arm around her hunched shoulders. So they sat until her tears ran out and her voice returned, and he wondered how much of her sorrow was the grief of the exile and the memories of the Ice haunting her and how much of it was foresight that he’d suspected in her, but he dared not ask, and guessed that for her there might have been no certain answer.

Long centuries pass swiftly in peacetime. Eregion opens, blooms, thrives under my careful eye. My beloved Celeborn is ever at my side. It finally feels safe to carry another into our lives, a child, silver-haired and beautiful. I write in the shade of a great oak that perhaps, has seen nearly as many winters as I have. I write histories lest my sorry excuse of a family fall into legend, forgotten by all who came after. I write poems, love scribbled into every stroke of my pen. We have lived through so much, but now it is time to rest.

For they shared a great love that resulted in the union of the princess of the Noldor and a prince of the Sindar.

I actually don’t know if people post edits on Tumblr cause I’ve personally never seen it, but I hope the video works just fine!! A little bit of JCB!Celeborn (even if he’s unconfirmed.) They’re the elven couple of time, idk what to tell you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I’m loving making fan work for @celedrielweek so far, I already post my brains out about them every day on Twitter! It is high time I spread the obsession to Tumblr too!

Celedriel Week July 14: seeing the coolest girl ever and falling inlove instantly my brother just another me

For @celedrielweek Day 2.

Celeborn is still learning the many shades of green unveiled by the Sun. In Menegroth, the loremasters are yet busy devising and debating new names. Though the Egladhrim may scorn the pride of the elves from across the Sea, they, too, are proud, and will not adopt any word of the tongue of usurpers. 

In secret, therefore, Celeborn samples morsels of Galadriel’s language, sounding the shapes of her speech. Ezella, he murmurs, as she idly traces the line of his jaw working around the syllables – the colour, she explains, of the bright gem that rests between her breasts, facets shimmering in the sunlight with each rise and fall of her breath. The colour of the mound upon which those Trees she grieves once grew. A word borrowed, she says, from her grandmother’s kindred, to whom she owes the golden strands of her hair. 

Celeborn threads his fingers through her hair now, disbelieving that such a marvel is his to touch. He does not grieve the loss of a light he never knew, for it is here with him, resplendent and alive. 

Yet, he promises himself, he will never allow his sight to forget the subtle gradients of deep, starlit greens into which he was born. When next the Moon forgets to rise, it will be Celeborn’s turn to teach his beloved new words for colours she has yet to see.
