Hello, my name is Cerebrus [Ser-Ree-Brus]

I am a deitykin who takes the form of a black shepherd. Also can be various other kinds of dogs (breeds, coat color, size). Or have a somewhat humanoid form.

Eventually I will have art of these forms but I am new to exploring this kintype so I am taking it slow.

I am a deity of animals, the dead, and dreams. These are all things that have always been in close connection to me.

Some symbols/associations of my divinity:

✦ Muted Greens, blues, purples. Muted nature colors like stone gray and dark woods.

✦ The woods, stars, moon, clouds, nightime/darkness

✦ Sleeping/Sleepyness, dreaming.

Worshipping is allowed, but not required by any means.

I see myself equal among all creatures. I am not better or worse than anyone or thing.

Please keep interactions SFW. I am simply just an observer that likes to lend a helping hand sometimes. I will never ask to date or be romantically or otherwise not platonically inclined with anyone who follows me on here.

The therian and otherkin communities really do harbour a lot of unexamined racism.

And I understand why. For many of us, our identities are inherently based in wanting to be seen, treated, as something other than human. We're often eager to disavow humanity, having spent so long being forced into that role, and so we embrace ideas of dehumanisation. But we don't often consider that alterhumans of colour, who have long histories of being treated as subhuman and having their humanity denied, might have more complex relationships with these narratives.

As a community in the internet age, we have the myths and legends of the whole world at our fingertips. But we often give very little care to the meanings of those myths and the cultures they come from. (Are you actually a human possessed by an Algonquin spirit of starvation, after falling prey to greed and the exploitation of other people? Or are you a woods monster with a skull-deer head? Because the former is not the latter, and if you actually are the former, a lot of Native Americans are going to be rightfully upset by you, as that spirit represents immense amounts of cruelty that was done to them and is still being done to them.)

And then there are the myths and legends that are explicitly tied to racism. The New Age narrative of starseeds and ancient alien ancestors originates in white supremacy (we never see Black alien progenitors, but we do see explicitly "Nordic" ones), antisemitism (anything to do with the world being secretly run by alien lizardfolk, which have widely been understood by Jewish scholars as code for the Jews), and literal Nazi occult practices. While some starseeds disavow racism, disavowing it personally is not enough- not when the community continues to circulate white supremacist beliefs.

And then of course there's the police dog thing. No, it doesn't make you evil to have been a police dog, or to have enjoyed having been one. No one can expect you to have understood racism as a dog. But you have this body and mind now, you are aware of racism now, and you are aware of the baseless cruelty of the police, the countless Black and Brown communities that have been terrorised by the police and K9 units. You have the choice to keep condoning this system, or to learn about it and the harm it does. Perhaps that's what you're meant to do as a dog in this life- perhaps that's why you're here, why you've been given this mind and this awareness in this current time. To become a better, more compassionate being than you were in the past.

This isn't to say you're not a dog who served the police, or a kitsune, or an alien from the Pleiades, or an animal who enjoys dehumanisation. (I'm that last one myself!) But we have to understand that when we talk about these things uncritically, when we're wilfully ignorant and don't do the research or care about how these ideas might make people of colour feel, we are driving said people away from the community and making it a very, very white space.

Like yes, here’s this character who has never felt at home where he is, so he runs away and finally finds a home he belongs in the wilderness! oh my gob shut up!!!! SHUT UP! Things like these is why I left the alterhuman community entirely.

I found that taking walks in woods and eating healthy food connects me more to being a wolf than trying to be "le epic keyboard warrior!!!"

Truly surprised how little godkins/deitykins there are on here. There's a ton of angels and other divinekin/unholykins (and I love them all, don't get me wrong). But it's also more common to find Christian based divinekin in all of the tags, (things mostly focused on holiness, pureness, innocence, etc) as someone who is more of a pagan-based deity (if I had to label it) it can be a bit isolating. I feel like a lot ot divinekins I see are so focused on the aspect of holy vs unholy. Remember that your identity as a deity/godkin doesn't have to be so black and white.

And again, no disrespect to my fellow divinekin out there, you are what you are. There are so few of us so I appreciate any and all of us :)

Guide to Safe and Consentual Worship

Anyone can participate in worship, and anyone can be worshipped. Deities, obviously. Gods, goddesses, you name it. The possibilities are endless.

To keep things running smoothly and ensure the vibes stay healthy, I’ve put together a simple little guide. Nothing too fancy, just some tips to make sure the dynamics remain respectful.

1) Mutual Consent

Both parties must clearly discuss and agree on the terms of worship beforehand.

Outline what worship entails, whether it’s symbolic gestures, words of affirmation, or creative expressions, and ensure that both parties are comfortable.

2) Establishing Trust

It’s strongly recommended that worship only occur between individuals who have an established relationship or significant trust.

Clearly define what is acceptable and what isn’t for both parties.

Are there any topics or actions that should be avoided?

What are the roles and responsibilities of each party?

3) Avoiding Unhealthy Power Dynamics

Both parties are equals in the interaction. Worship is not about domination or subjugation but mutual respect.

The subject of worship must not use their perceived status to manipulate, demand, or exploit the worshipper.

Likewise, the worshipper must not idealize or pedestalize the subject of worship to an unhealthy degree.

4) Ensuring Emotional Safety

Communicate. Talk about boundaries, and check in with each other on how the dynamic feels.

Either party can revoke consent at any time.

5) Avoiding Parasociality

It’s difficult to maintain healthy boundaries with individuals you do not know or interact with directly!

Encourage any worship to occur in spaces where both parties can communicate openly to each other, rather than one-sided conversations and/or expressions.

Practical Tips for Worship

Avoid Material Demands: Worship should avoid including demands for gifts or other material items, as this can lead to exploitation.

Etiquette: Ensure respectful and kind interactions. The subject of worship should not tolerate harassment, and worshippers should not face excessive obligations they didn’t agree to.

Signs of Unhealthy Worship Dynamics

One party feels guilted or pressured to continue despite discomfort.

Emotional manipulation or demands for constant attention.

One-sided interactions where the worshipper idealizes the subject of worship without mutual acknowledgment.

If one person is putting in all the emotional effort while the other just takes (or demands), it’s time to check those boundaries.

Losing sight of the difference between a healthy connection and harmful dependency.

Unrealistic expectations.

Constant messages, demands for attention, or refusal to take “no” for an answer.

What to Do if You Spot These Signs

Communicate what’s making you uncomfortable.

If that doesn’t work, take a step back and reassess the situation.

If all else fails, walk away.

Remember, worship should be a source of positivity, growth, and connection, not stress, manipulation, or obligation. Worship isn’t bad, just make sure you’re doing it safely loves!

I wish we could have more characters in media that are non/alter/demihuman and/or feel nonhuman but instead of going on this life changing, emotional journey of finding their humanity and blah, blah, blah... they instead find pride in who they are.

They don't need to be or feel human to prove their kindness, faithfulness, trustworthiness, generosity, mercy, openness, love and all that we deem good and precious.
