Only one bed?!
synopsis: What happens when two "bestfriends" that obviously like each other share a bed?
â A/N; Hii ~ First time posting.. kind of nervous.. feed backs are appreciated!! I've barely seen anybody writing for plave so I took matters into my own hands (ŕšËá´Ë)ďť
This? This definitely wasnât part of the plan.
You had agreed.. agreed on a chill, platonic getaway. No drama, no weirdness, no.. feelings. Just two friends taking a road trip to get out of the city for the weekend. Friends. F-R-I-E-N-D-S. Right?
Right?..
And yet here you were, standing in the hotel lobby under lights that were entirely too bright, trying to convince a very tired looking receptionist that the universe hadnât just conspired to put you into the most awkward situation of your life.
âMaâam please?..â you leaned on the reception desk, your voice carrying that borderline polite but about to snap tone. âThere has to be something you can do. Even a storage closet will work. A cleaning supply room. Hell, a bench in the lobby. Anything!â
The receptionist gave a sympathetic half smile but shook her head. âIâve triple checked our system. Weâre overbooked because of the convention down the street. Iâm sorry. Thereâs only one room leftâ
Eunho dramatically slammed a palm to his forehead. âDo you know how traumatizing it is for two completely platonic.. not at all romantic, extremely normal friends to share a bed?â He turned slightly toward you, exaggeratedly emphasizing the word âfriendsâ
You didnât miss the way he hesitated before saying itâ or the way your own heart did a weird little lurch when he said it.
You pretended to roll your eyes. âYeah, because nothing says trauma like a soft mattress and fluffy pillowsâ
The receptionist slid the keycard toward you. âRoom 407. Elevatorâs around the corner. Enjoy your stayâ
Eunho sighed with the weight of a thousand melodramatic plays. âGuess we donât have a choiceâ
âYeahâ you mumbled. âAnd itâs not like we have time to go hunting for a new hotel. Weâve gotta leave early tomorrow anyway..â
With one last death glare at the receptionist (who was clearly doing her best okay?) you snatched the keycard and stormed toward the elevator. Eunho trailed behind, dragging his suitcase like it personally offended him.
The ride up was silent.
Not the comfortable kind of silence. No, this was the loud, suffocating kind of silence where every second stretched just a little too long and the soft jazz music playing in the elevator somehow made it worse.
âYou can shower firstâ Eunho offered after thirty seconds of unbearable silence, rubbing the back of his neck.
You nodded. âOh yeah, uh.. thanksâ
Thanks? THANKS?! What was that?! Who thanks someone for offering them a shower?! You wanted to curl into yourself and disappear.
DING
Mercifully, the elevator opened.
You stepped out and glanced at the key. â407â You murmured it under your breath like a mantra.
Eunho leaned in, squinting at the number. â407?â he echoed.
You turned to respondâ only to nearly smash into his face.
You were this close. Close enough to count his eyelashes. Close enough to feel the warmth of his breath.
You stumbled back with a squeak.
âIâ Iâ sorry!â you blurted, bowing so fast you nearly whacked your head on your suitcase handle. Then you darted down the hallway like your life depended on it.
Eunho stood frozen, face flushed bright red. He dragged a hand down his face. âOh my god.â
When he finally caught up, you were fumbling with the keycard like it was a bomb. It took you three tries before the lock clicked open.
And thenâ
You both stopped. Stared.
âOh noâ you whispered.
âOne bedâ Eunho breathed, like heâd just witnessed a murder.
The queen sized bed sat mockingly in the center of the room, complete with pastel throw pillows and a fluffy white comforter that looked like it had been handcrafted by angels. There was even a heart shaped towel arrangement on the center of it. Because of course there was.
âDun dun freakinâ dun..â Eunho muttered.
You dropped your suitcase and turned to him with narrowed eyes. âOkay obviously, Iâll take the floorâ
Eunho crossed his arms. âExcuse me? Iâm the gentleman here. Iâll take the floorâ
âYou?! Your back will die in like ten minutes!â
âAnd yours wonât?! Look, youâre the one wearing a skirt. Youâll freeze!â
âI have leggings underneathâ
âI have.. uhâ back painâ
âYou literally do not!â
âWell, I might if I sleep on the floorâ
Finally, you groaned and flopped down onto the bed. âFine! We both sleep in the bed. Justâ stay on your side. Donât touch meâ
âPlease.. I wouldnât even dream of itâ (What a liar)
He tossed his jacket dramatically onto the chair, acting like he was in a slow motion K-drama scene. âWeâll put a pillow wall in the middle. Classic no touching zone. You stay in your little corner, Iâll stay in mineâ
You raised an eyebrow. âLike a toddler naptime setup?â
âExactly!â He snapped his fingers.
A little time-skip ~
The bathroom light flicked off and you stepped out, rubbing a towel over your damp hair. You were now in your sleep clothes, a simple black tank top and shorts and instantly regretted not packing something more monastic.
Eunho, who had already changed, looked up from where he was lying on the bed, scrolling through his phone. He blinked and blinked again.
His brain shut down for a second.
You narrowed your eyes. âWhat?â
âNothing!â he squeaked, throwing his phone across the bed like it had personally betrayed him. âYou.. uhâ you smell like coconut. Thatâs allâ
âYeah no shit I just showeredâ
âYeah, duh. Thatâs what I meantâ He slapped a hand over his mouth. âForget it. Gânight!â
You rolled your eyes and slid under the covers, turning to face the other way. But sleep? Yeah, sleep wasnât happening. Not when you could feel Eunho just inches away, tossing and turning like a fish out of water.
âYou good?â you asked finally.
âYeah, totally fine! Just⌠uhâ getting comfyâ
A few more moments of silence.
âYouâre breathing weirdâ
âOh my god, Iâm breathing normal!â
âYou sound like a dying wolfâ
âWell maybe the dying wolfâs nervous!â
Pause.
âI meanâ NOT nervous! Just.. you know, tired! Super tired!â
You bit your lip, hiding a smile. You turned to face him again andâ
Your noses almost touched.
âOkayâ you whispered. âYouâre over the pillow wall!â
âAm not!â
You poked his forehead, flustered. âYouâre like, halfway into my zone!â
âWell youâre the one who built a flimsy wall!â
Suddenly, Eunhoâs phone buzzed. He lunged for it like it was a lifeline. âItâs Bamby-hyungâ he whispered, answering the call.
âYo, whatâs up?â came Bambyâs voice through the speaker. âDid you guys check in yet?â
âYeahâ Eunho said, lowering his voice and glancing guiltily at you.
âWaitâ you sound weird. Why are you whispering? Youâre not in the same room as y/n, are you?â
You side eyed him.
ââŚWe areâ
âWaitââ Bamby gasped. âWAIT⌠ARE YOU SHARING A ROOM? BRO TELL ME ITâS NOT JUST ONE BEDââ
âSHHH!â Eunho hissed.
âNO WAYYY⌠YOU TWO? ONE BED? THIS IS IT. THIS IS HOW YOU CONFESS YOUR LOVE. MY PREDICTIONS ARE NEVER WRONG!â
Eunho was scrambling to turn down the volume while you were red as a tomato under the covers, trying to pretend you werenât hearing everything.
âBRO IS SHE THERE? WAIT, WAITâ Y/N, BLINK TWICE IF YOUâRE BEING SEDUCED!â
You choked on your own spit.
âIâm hanging up now!â Eunho growled, face on fire and smacked the phone screen.
Silence again. This time, it wasnât awkward. It was worse.
You spoke first, voice soft. â...Bambyâs kind of right, huh?â
âHuh?â Eunho froze.
âI meanâ not the love part! Justâ the bed part. Itâs.. weird. But not, like.. badâ
âYeahâ he said, his voice just a little shaky. âNot bad at allâ
You peeked over the pillow wall. He peeked back.
And for the first time all night, neither of you said anything. But your hearts? Yeah, those were screaming.
Minutes passed. Maybe hours. Time felt like mush.
You stared at the ceiling. Your heart still hadnât slowed down. You could hear Eunhoâs breathingâ not wolf like now, just⌠soft. Gentle, too gentle. It was making it impossible to pretend you were chill.
You rolled onto your back, careful not to move the pillow wall.
âHeyâ you whispered.
Eunho stirred. âHm?â
ââŚYou awake?â
A pause. âI mean, I am nowâ
You bit your lip, fiddling with the edge of the blanket. âSorry, I just⌠couldnât sleep.â
â...Me neitherâ
You both stared at the ceiling now, side by side with only a thin barrier of cotton and unspoken feelings between you.
You cleared your throat. âItâs justâ weird, right? Us. Here. Like thisâ
Eunho let out a breathy laugh. âYeah. Itâs like.. one of those tropes youâd find in a bad fanficâ
You smiled. âWhat, you mean the âoh no.. thereâs only one bed, whatever will we doâ trope?â
âExactlyâ He turned toward you, propping his head up with one arm. âNext thing you know, someoneâs gonna confess their undying love and then âaccidentallyâ cuddle in their sleepâ
You raised an eyebrow. âYou saying youâre gonna try to sneak in a cuddle?â
âWhat? No! Iâ never!â He flailed dramatically, bumping the pillow wall. âYou wound me!â
âYou wound yourself with that weak ass defenseâ
âOkay, rudeâ He pouted. âThis is why youâre singleâ
You gasped. âOh my godâ take that back!â
He grinned, eyes glittering in the dim lamp light. âNope. Facts onlyâ
âI will push you off this bed so fastââ
âWith what arm strength? You canât even open a jar of pickles without threatening to cryâ
âThat was ONE TIME and it was a really stubborn lidââ
You both burst out laughing.
And then it faded again. Quiet settled between you, this time warmer. Softer.
Eunho spoke again, this time quieter. âYou know.. itâs not that weird. Us being here. Like this.â
Your breath caught. âNo?â
He shook his head slowly. âNah. I mean, yeah.. itâs kinda crazy. But also.. kind of nice?â
You turned to look at him. He looked right back and suddenly, the pillow wall felt way too tall.
You sat up slightly, hugging your knees to your chest. âDo you ever think about⌠us?â
âLike what about us?â
âLike⌠if we werenât just friendsâŚâ The words came out fast and mumbly, like your brain was two seconds behind your mouth. âNot saying we shouldnât be, just... do you ever wonder?â
Eunho blinked. Once. Twice. Then he sat up too, mirroring your position.
ââŚYeahâ he said softly. âI do.â
Silence again. But this time? Something changed.
You looked down at your hands, playing with the hem of your shorts. âI donât know when it started. I thinkâ maybe I always kind of liked you. But I didnât want to ruin anything. Youâre... my best friendâ
Eunho reached out, hesitated, then gently touched your hand.
âYou wouldnât ruin anything,â he said. âYou couldnât.â
You looked up. Your eyes met.
And without thinkingâ you both leaned in, slow and hesitant and so stupidly tenderâ
Your foreheads bumped.
âOWâ!â you winced, clutching your forehead.
âGod, Iâm so sorry!â Eunho groaned, scrambling back. âI ruined the moment, didnât I?!â
You snorted. âYeah, you did. Itâs okay, it was already doomed the moment we leaned inâ
He laughed and you couldnât help but join in, even through the blush spreading across your cheeks.
You were both still grinning when he leaned in againâ slower, more carefully this time.
And this time, when your lips met? There was no bump. No flailing. Just warmth. Soft.Â
When you pulled back you blinked.
âSo uh.. Still gonna build the pillow wall again?â
Eunho smirked. âDependsâ
âOn?â
âIf youâre gonna seduce me with coconut scented shampoo againâ
You shoved him. âShut upâ
He caught your wrist. Held it gently then smiled.
The night passed in soft, shy breaths and "accidental" touches.
At some point, you had rolled onto your side, the pillow wall still technically intact but... barely. And Eunho? He hadnât slept a wink. Not really. Not with the weight of your presence right thereâ warm, close.
He watched you as you drifted, your lashes fluttering now and then like you were dreaming. Your hair still slightly damp from the shower, curled a little against the pillow.Â
You looked... peaceful. Unbelievably beautiful. His fingers twitched where they lay, resisting the urge to brush a strand of hair from your face.Â
âStop staringâ you mumbled suddenly, eyes still closed.
Eunho froze. âWhaâ I wasnâtâ!â
You cracked one eye open, a smirk curling at the corner of your lips. âYou so wereâ
He groaned and buried his face into the pillow, muffling a dramatic, âIâm so embarrassed.â
âGood.â You laughed softly.
Morning came too soon.
A ray of golden sunlight slipped between the curtains and landed right across Eunhoâs face.Â
He groaned like it had personally offended him, squinting one eye openâ only to see you already awake, blinking at the ceiling like it had answers.
âDid we really fall asleep like this?..â you asked, voice croaky.
He looked down. His arm was around your waist.
Your hand was on his chest. His heart was doing jumping jacks.
âIâ uhâ maybe we got cold?â He offered a shitty explanation he came up with.
You didnât move. ââŚItâs kind of warm thoughâ
âRight. Maybe we got emotionally coldâ
You finally sat up, hairâs a mess, tank top slightly wrinkled, face glowing with that soft morning haze.Â
âLetâs just not talk about itâ you said, though the corner of your mouth betrayed your amusement.
Eunho chuckled. âDealâ
â A/N; 2,247 words.. whew.. I hope that was alright, I was craving for this kind of troupe with Eunho so I just had to.. hope you guys enjoyed !! ďźź(ďźžâ˝ďźž)ďź
