âIs that any way to greet to a valued customer?â Dominic challenged, holding out a crisp receipt to the shop owner. âIâm here to pick up an order, you should be able to find it under Barney. Thatâs B-A-R-N-E-Y, like the dinosaur â but less friendly and not entirely purple.âÂ
â valued, â grant grumbles, taking the receipt, â yeah yeah yeah, i appreciate your business, youâre wonderful, iâd be lost without my customers, â he spins on his heel, ducking into the walk in âcold roomâ ( easier to keep flowers fresh in there ). â whatâre these for? â heâs speaking from behind the glass, â lotâsâa flowers. â
Do you have any strange phobias?
â ha, do you have time? â a shrug, â little holes close together, saws when theyâre turned on, cars - anything to do with them, crossing the street, â a smile ( finally ) â â but iâm getting better! plastic bags, stepping on moss barefoot â â he shifts from heel to toe, â oh - and aphidsâŚto name a few. â

Exhausted. It was a word that seemed to define Georgie more and more as of late. Long hours at worked coupled with coming home to take care of her grandmother on her own, and chores around the houseâ well, she swore she could sleep for a month straight if given the opportunity. It was sheer willpower and coffee that was getting her through the day at this point. The latter being something she was currently lacking, which is how she found herself at the local cafe not so patiently waiting for the sugary white chocolate and coffee ( with two extra espresso shots ) concoction she had ordered. In order to pass the timeâ and prevent herself from falling asleep while standing upâ she offered a close-lipped smile to the person waiting for their drink alongside her and said, somewhat jokingly, âCome here often?â
it was RARE to see grant anywhere but his house or the shop. he wasnât a âhang out around townâ kind of guy - he wanted as little to do with people of pickaway as possible. â no. never. iâd rather shove forks into my eyes. my keurig is broken. â he bounces in place, wrapping his arms around himself, â i canât justify spending 5 bucks on coffee everyday. you ever think about that? could be putting into a retirement fund . . . emergency fund . . . but instead youâre spending all of your money on a drink. â he raises a brow, â just sayinâ . . . â
' Whatâs your problem with me? '
â dunno, â there wasnât really much to have a problem with. â fits my brand, i guess. youâre a âcool young teenâ and my heydays are long gone. i sâppose itâs JEALOUSY? maybe your inability to KEEP TRACK of the receipts you get from the cemetery for arrangements? what do you do? eat âem? as some sort of youth fuel? . . . i donât get it. â
In the morning when I wake And the sun is coming through, Oh, you fill my lungs with sweetness, And you fill my head with you.

â B U T, iâm here to worship,â she snapped smartly, feeding into his words with a soft smile. donât be rude, petra. she let her hand drop, lessening the chance of an assault on his children. she was certainly careless, at times, but it tended to come with a flair of grace that she couldnât help but exude. one leg behind the other, she took a step back from the display, eyes scanning the shop, âiâd like some flowers,â she didnât have money, ââwhich ones are your favorite?â
â i donât care what youâre HERE to do. keep your hands O F F of my flowers. â he was a grump, but keeping his flowers alive and beautiful was a lot of work. he stands, moving towards a display heâd just set up that day, â mini calla lilies are some of my favorites, right now. ranunculus are good if youâre looking for color. what about a succulent? those are big right now, too.  not sure why . . . theyâre boring. âÂ

disquiet rips through the calm of him , and coils his features tight .  hands raised to defend against the spray of water ;  wiping wet limbs down on his jeans afterwards with a frown .  he  knows  human planting isnât possible  â  not without some obscure tropical species  â  but that doesnât mean he wonât have nightmares about the idea of it .  â uh , i donât know . â  he hasnât gotten around to asking her yet , theyâre not that close .  â was that really necessary ? â  stepping away from previous station , jake gestures at the faintly damp patch on the floor to indicate what he means .  Â
â is that  peek  customer service ? â
â it was necessary. you see here at lafern & shirleyâs we ⌠me ⌠like to give the customers the full floral experience. help ya become one with the flowers. i do it with everyone. i find it helps the customers really, y'know, dig deep and find what flowers their hearts really want. â it was true - he did spritz most every customer; especially the ones that got too close. most people would laugh and shuffle away uncomfortably - strange that he was still in business, really. â so, now â now that youâve had the FULL experience ⌠what are you drawn to? â grantâs next question comes out of left field because he didnât even realize he cared, â whatâd you do? tâmake her mad at you? â

John-Paul waits patiently, rifling through some the flowers, trying to see what Charlotte would like the best. He wasnât really a flower kinda guy. They were pretty, sure, and some of âem smelled nice, but they died so quickly. Thatâs why animals were better. Sure, it was difficult for kids (at least most kids, JP had never had a problem, but he understood most animals better than he understood people), but it taught responsibility. âAn arrangement?â he asks, with a bit of a dumbfounded look on his face, âI ainât sure what that is, but I just need some flowers. For my daughter, and I just know youâre the guy who can help me with that.â
â dâyou want something big? these are typically for special occasions. customizable. â he gestures to a few of the arrangements he had on display. they were much bigger - a plethora of flowers involved. â or just a few to take to her? i can get you some that might last a little longer - some flowers donât need as much watering. â grant was bitter by default, but he could appreciate a father that tried.
excuse me, sir. which of these flowers are the tastiest.... the yummiest??
â iâm going to put pesticides in your drinking water. â
