The Simpsons - 16.20 - Home Away from Homer
1$ flea market score. Tiny glass 1960s perfume bottles. I love them.
Can you swap their heads ?
omg you can
Their meeting was foretold in the ancient texts
Build a better world with Direct Action. Your government and corporations have already thrown your lives away, so do not fear death as a consequence.
this is my suggestion
USAmericans responding to the looming global economic collapse by saying they're leaving. Leaving where, Earth? Europe is going to get hit harder across the board than North America (and Canada is energy dependent on the US), Australia and NZ are already hit, Lat Am, Asia and Africa are cooked. You can't even set up shop in Antarctica because you need fuel to keep warm and for boats. Ironically the US is the place most insulated from the crisis they're causing. As usual.
The next five years are going to make COVID look like a fond memory.
and the us may be leading the way as the sole global super-power, the empire among empires, but europe and the other european settler-colonies, the ‘first world’, aren’t that far behind. all of them have been neoliberalizing for years, laying the groundwork for the rise of their own more-blatant fascism.
Yuupppp yall usaians theres nowhere to run to you gotta start fixing shit where you at. If you have the money to move cointries you got the money to contribute that to your local community and help look after people. Help build systems independient of the powers that be help us build community care and structures to make resistance against cops and military feasable and surviveable.
yeahhh, no thanks.
Please, everyone go report this blog that tried to follow me 2 minutes ago for being a nazi: @schwartzesonne88
gotta love the system for reporting nazis on tumblr:
First youve got to find links to specific posts theyve made. Being an open nazi blog in their username or description or avatar or header or leaving racist comments doesnt count; you can only report them for a specific post.
Then, (in this case) youve got to write a 200 character story about what in the video praising hitler it was that you objected to, and then you have to write at least 200 characters explaining why praising hitler might be against tumblr's hate speech policies
Yeah, Tumblr is clearly a website that is serious about combating hate speech. @humans @staff @tumblr
im sorry about your balls Mr. j :(
👍
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.
For the TLDR crowd:
“The vast majority of men are only willing to engage in public violence if they feel like the people around them will approve of — and reward them for — that violence.
ICE Watch works because it surrounds men seeking approval with people loudly expressing their *disapproval.* And the noise has the added benefit of drawing large crowds of bystanders who can quickly outnumber the ICE agents, who then have to decide if they want to escalate a situation or perhaps abandon their activity altogether.
In Minneapolis, we’re already seeing the success of ICE Watch. There are countless videos from ICE Watch observers that show agents leaving without detaining anyone after they encounter resistance. There are currently about 3,000 ICE agents in Minnesota, but the Department of Homeland Security claims they have only arrested 2,400 people — less than one person per agent.
ICE Watch organizers have also observed that it takes many more agents to make a single arrest when they are around. In other cities, ICE traveled in groups of two or three, but in Minneapolis, we primarily see groups of 6 to 12 agents. The Department of Homeland Security has pulled agents from other cities to ramp up efforts in Minnesota, which guarantees there will be fewer deportations from the places they left. Plus, ICE’s fixation on breaking up ICE Watch groups and detaining observers — often white citizens — has interrupted its original mission.
The entire operation is becoming slower and more resource-intensive. There is good reason to believe that more immigrants are with their families tonight because of ICE Watch.”
holy quaternity
I visited Hiroshima yesterday and went to to the museum and oh my god it was so harrowing. the a-bomb ended up killing a 1/3 of the city and destroyed almost everything in one sweep. it also was never about pearl harbour like so many apologists say it was, it was really just about deterring Soviet influence. like obv this isn’t a defence of Japan bc they were an aggressor too! but the US killed so many innocent babies and children for their own interests and anyway this is why im apathetic about people who feign concern about Iran developing nuclear weapons or North Korea having them bc the US is the only one that has actually used it and the US needs to be fucking deterred somehow
weird how abled people don't want you to have supports because it may Annoy Them. no, you can't have a shower chair, it'll get in my way. no, you can't put subtitles on, im here to watch a movie not read. because the needs of the disabled are somehow lesser than the wants of the abled.
"oh but subtitles are distracting to me"... don't you think it's more distracting not knowing what anyone's saying properly
if you talk about sex as a social constriction you’ll immediately attract a dozen queers butting in to say actually i think you mean gender☝️ sex is your real immutable biological essence and gender is what you dress up as
people are like you just need to apply to 10 jobs a day meanwhile each of the jobs want you to write them 1500 words of uniquely tailored sycophancy & then manually input your cv into their custom application form 3 different times
Revealing the ignorance of my youth here, but who is this and what is she known for?
Anita Sarkeesian, feminist who interpreted media under a feminist lens. She did a series about video games and she was the subject of targeted harassment. That was the start of gamergate
Minor correction, the start of gamergate was based around a different reporter, Zoe Quinn, but they were both absolutely violently threatened over their involvement in video game criticism and development. A hate campaign was started by Quinn's ex-boyfriend when he wrote a post falsely accusing them of dating video game journalists in order to receive positive reviews on their own game, Depression Quest, which led other bad actors to accuse all women in the industry (Zoe identified as female at the time) of perceived sexual immorality. Anita Sarkeesian's brilliant Youtube series Tropes vs Women in Video Games (which everyone should watch, right now) sparked a particular nerve for criticizing popular games of killing and/or victimizing any important female character (there is a CHILLING bit that borders on ludicrous where she describes the plots of a seemingly endless parades of games as "In [title], [male player character's] wife dies, and you then have to rescue [his] daughter."). That series did actually make a huge change in the industry, especially when touted by progressive legacy developers like Tim Schafer (Monkey Island, Psychonauts), who went on to expand hiring in his company to front women and minority voices, but the shift didn't really show for a long time and echoes of the sexism that plagues the industry at its core are still rampant.
In all seriousness, if you live in the US and you aren't familiar with the misogynistic harassment these people in the game industry faced during Gamergate, you need to watch this series right now.
This was the beggining of the current form of the US fascist movement and it underpins the entire thing about it to this day. If you live in the US and Gamergate isn't familiar to you, you're missing critical history to understanding US fascism. I'm not joking even a little bit here, you will understand modern United States fascism so much better if you are familiar with Gamergate.
Several years later, Ian Danskin made a video about how Gamergate evolved into the alt-right we all know and loathe, complete with a timeline.
As the "Endnote 5" in this video's title implies, he also made a series of other videos on alt-right politics, rhetoric, and strategy, and speculating on how we can combat those things. (Some of which are summarized in the above video.) And he kept making those videos for a few more years, though Trump's re-election took the wind out of those sails.
while gamergate and its consequences is certainly a foundational pillar of the current usamerican fascist movement, it feels like it would be a bit disgraceful to not mention the rise of black lives matter movement running in parallel, since the reaction against blm is easily another foundational pillar. while blm had been around and gaining ground for some time prior, it was the killing of michael brown on August 9, 2014 that really brought it to the national stage. like i think it's hard to imagine something like the january 6th storming of the capitol without having the unite the right rally of 2016, and the driving force of that rally was white supremacy and reaction against blm.
A leaked audio recording points to former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, Javier Milei, and Donald Trump as attempting to create
This story is WILD. Juan Orlando Hernandez, the Honduran ex-president pardoned by Trump for narcotrafficking, seemingly caught on tape in dozens of conversations (if true), discussing plans with GOP and other figures to attack left-wing governments, and saying Israel paid for his pardon from Trump.
"...although the change was expected to affect only 3% of users, “this could amount to 2m devices rendered obsolete according to some estimates, potentially generating over 624 tons of e-waste”."
Up to 2m e-readers made before 2013 will no longer be able to download new titles
