In the NICU I took vitals, fed, dressed, and burped the babies. The other two days of the week I worked in two local leprosy camps dressing wounds and performing basic health screens. It was an great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the medical field while also learning about healthcare in the developing country."

"I gained hands on experience rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife in Washington, so that they could be released back into the wild. I worked closely with a rehabber and assisted in the exam room, as well as practiced skills such as diet preparation, administering medications, nutritional tubings, sub-cutaneous injections and vaccines, releases, and enclosure maintenance. I also got to learn a lot about human-animal interactions, and took classes including wildlife scenarios, preventative care, wildlife ethics, fracture stabilization, radiology, thermoregulation, nutrition, and avian force feeding. Prior to this internship I planned on pursuing a career in wildlife rehabilitation, but I enjoyed the medical side of my internship so much that I now want to explore it deeper, and go to vet school for wildlife and conservation medicine."
