nero met ling for the first time when he was still greedling, when he fought wrath in episode 45? I think? for some context, nero, heinkel, zampano, darius and jerso were a little team of chimeras but she was kept away because she isn't as strong as them (because she's kind of a chimera prototype) and was used mostly to dispose of political prisoners and stuff— that's why she is a HYENA chimera. aheem heem whimper unknowingly cannibalizing people ((also she shall have a parasocial father-daughter relationship with heinkel which is kinda the reason i made her surname resemble his ((heinkel and henschel))).
BUT, when kimblee is sent to briggs and has the chimeras, she is sent with them because until now she's been obedient and the scientists think she's been brainwashed enough to never even consider being a desertor. little do they know she is the n1 hater of the amestrian army lololol.
she didn't even attempt to hunt Ed like heinkel and Darius, and she actually was the first to try and help ed when he got impaled because she wants to go away from the army. since she doesn't have much a family or any connections, she sticks with heinkel, darius and ed. that's why she meets ling when he escapes his fight with wrath.
she saw greedling and decided he was 1. weird (she doesn't trust people with the ourobouros tattoo because the only people she saw with it were envy and wrath) 2. interesting (because he attacked Bradley!!!!! she always wanted to do that!!!!) 3. cute ??? she keeps studying him, trying to find out what he is and what are his intentions and greed is intrigued and keeps bugging ling to find out what she is and ling thinks she's kinda awesome and fucked up so he finds ways to talk to her as ling and not greed!!! she ends up liking his company a lot. like more than just hey I want to be your friend also ignore the fact I am half an animal and ate people
greed and nero also have a twisted little deal bcs she has the need (more like habit) to like..consume blood (because she's used to blood and flesh and rot because of the prisoners...wawawaw) so they trade loyalty for blood feeding like a fuckass vampire since greed doesn't get really injured by it?????? they're weird sorru
since nero is a child soldier and ling has a lot of responsibilities in his hands they kinda bond over the fact that they haven't had a lot of teenage experiences over their childhood so they just decide to fuck around and find out for like a season
