i love that 17th century jewish poltergeist story where the family living in the haunted house calls a catholic priest for help before they contact a rabbi, because yeah, i think that would be my call too; id be like, oh? a demon in my house speaking latin and drawing inverted crosses on my wall in sulfuric bile? then without even questioning my faith iâd call up the catholic church and be like yo father, one of your boys loose come get him
âLook here pal, I know my religion, and this ainât it. Whatever this guy is, theyâre clearly from your version of things. Mind coming over to help fix things up?â

I maintain that the best summation of my feminist beliefs are that men and women are not fundamentally different. There are a few quantifiable differences if you average out every woman and every man, but they are not qualitative. And most of them are socially constructed, and would be fixed if we started treating men and women the same. Neither is inherently smarter, neither is inherently kinder, neither is inherently more stoic or stronger or angrier or softer. Everyone is obsessed with the differences between women and men, with finding them and creating them and distancing themselves from the "other half". It's fucked up
sometimes people experiencing psychosis and/or mania will come up to you on the street and talk in confusing or upsetting ways. your job is to either have a regular human-to-human conversation with that person or politely leave. your job is not to call 911. do not call 911. you might kill that person if you call 911.
I don't even have the energy to screenshot and respond to your tags- what the actual fuck is wrong with you? "the cops are scared and rightfully so" "mental health calls are the scariest for cops" OH so this isn't about the safety of psychotic & manic people this is about piggy feelings?
and no, actually, this is not USA specific and no, actually, people from other countries should not ignore this post. police violence and sanism weren't invented in the US and they are certainly not unique to here. if you (or anyone) thinks that this bullshit doesn't happen elsewhere then you are not listening.
cops r Some Guy with a Gun
do we want Some Guy with a Gun in this situation? answer is usually "NO"
This is legitimately useful reframing. A while ago I started replacing the word "cop" in my vocabulary with "a man with a gun." It really puts things into perspective.
This homeless person is making me uncomfortable. Should I call [a man with a gun]?
My neighbor is having a loud party. Should I get [a man with a gun] involved?
There are some teenagers skateboarding. Do you think [a man with a gun] would get rid of them for me?
It makes it very clear what you're saying. I can call a man with a gun to threaten or hurt someone mildly inconveniencing me. You're not calling the cops, you're calling A MAN WITH A GUN into a situation that does not warrant a firearm handled by a volatile lunatic who will not be held accountable for his actions.

Whenever people ask me "why don't you know xyz, it's so popular" well see it's because
I literally live in south east asia
Most countries cut the map like that because it's the easiest and most logical place to have a big vertical split! Everyone else agrees that the awkward and self centred way that Americans cut the map so that they sit in the middle is obnoxious as hell.
#Does US have a different map???? via @eldritch-bisexual
Why yes. Yes we do:
^Those are generally what hangs on the wall in US classrooms.
Ive never seen that map cut hung anywhere in any of the 5 US state/location I've gone to school in? Where does this person live that that's the standard map? Like that's very much not actually a universal American thing cause I've only ever seen the same map cut as op.
I've seen both tbh. The America centered one was way more prevalent when I was younger but that might be my college professors and high school teachers realizing it's weird to center America and not a change over time.
Can I be honest with yall I don't want to hear SHIT against cishets at pride this year
"But it's not FOR them!!!" The biggest military power in the world belongs to a christofascist nation overseen by a felon found guilty of 34 federal crimes and has greenlit a gestapo with more direct funding than the entire military of Canada for the purpose of ethnic cleansing. Let Hetero Jessica throw some biodegradable glitter at a municipal parade
At this point if anyone is trying to exclude anyone pro-queer and not hurting anyone from a pro-queer space I'm just going to assume you're a fed or something idk like something something destabilize the movement from within or whatever
And that's that on that.
Apparently I wasn't done đ€
These are FABULOUS, OP, but can I suggest one to the riff of "QUEERNESS IS NOT DEFINED BY THE AMOUNT PEOPLE HAVE SUFFERED"?
Thanks! Here you go đ„°
Some other additions:
Inspired by @unicorn-in-the-library:
And because @surfs-up-roxy wanted an ace one:
I didn't want to make the message ace-specific because I wanted to make a point of how all of the above include aspec people, but I tried to use an ace colour palette for the background :) I also think the message applies especially (even if not exclusively) to the ace community!
Hope you like these đ„°
@rockmarina possibly âall labels were made up at one point, stop being an assâ?
I played around with the concept a bit, I hope you like it anyway!
I feel like this also needs to be said:
[ID:
Image 1: (in white text, on a background of rainbow watercolors) Gatekeeping hurts queer people who are questioning.
Image 2: (in white text, on a background of rainbow paint strokes) Gatekeeping hurts more queer people than it protects.
Image 3: (in white text, on a background of pastel watercolors) How about you let people question their gender and sexuality in peace.
Image 4: (in white text, on a photo of the rainbow pride flag flying in a blue sky) People donât owe you a chronicle of their life experiences and feelings for you to decide whether they belong in their own community.
Image 5: (in white text, on a marbled pink background) I donât know how to tell you this, but you are not the queer police.
Image 6: (in white text, on a background of multicolored textile) Stop siding with our oppressors.
Image 7: (in white text, on a photo of pieces of chalk arranged in a rainbow on asphalt) Not every queer personâs experiences need to be like yours.
Image 8: (in white text, on a background of shiny, rainbow chunks of metal (?)) Mind your own damn business.
Image 9: (in white text, on a mottled black & rainbow background) Let people change labels.
Image 10: (in white text, on a photo of a full moon in a dark sky) Thereâs no such thing as not being queer enough.
Image 11: (in white text, on a background of paint strokes in pink, white, magenta, purple and dark blue, the colors of the genderfluid pride flag) Vocabulary is designed to be constantly reinvented as human societies evolve, and labels arenât the exception.
Image 12: (in white text, on a background of pink, purple, and turquoise) Gatekeeping is a product of privilege.
End ID]
Thanks so much for the image descriptions!
Here's one more addition per @secretlycrazyhummingbird's suggestion:
[Image description: (in white text, over a black background with trees decorated with multi-colored lights) Queer people don't have to make themselves palatable to deserve respect. End ID]
And another one, per @mixed-bag-of-tricks's suggestion!
[Image description: (in white text, over a wooden background with curved boards the colours of the rainbow) It's okay to use a label even if it doesn't fit perfectly. End ID]
...you know what, I think the message of this post really boils down to this:
[ID: (in white text, over a black background with striking rainbow lights) gatekeepers are nothing but bullies. End ID]
And I'm really glad this post has helped so many people feel a bit less alone in their struggles. Bullies have made a LOT of damage in this communityâhave made so many of us feel like impostors, like trenders, like maybe we were making up the things we were feelingâand it makes me so happy we're all pushing back against their hateful, narrow-minded, queerphobic rhetoric.
Keep it up, everyone đȘđŒ
Happy pride month to the post that marked the beginning of my journey to overcoming internalised queerphobia
I'm gonna say something incredibly 30-year-old and I'm going to ask you to not judge me while I'm trying to be genuine and real. Okay? Here's my truth.
A piece of lettuce can really elevate a sandwich. The fresh crunch? Unrivaled. Peak. Poetic cinema.
You ever think about how old people have no idea what âsurvivor biasâ is, and take full credit for being excellent out of things where they lucked out?
âBack in my day we didnât have any of these childhood protective things, we were smart enough not to do stupid shit on our own!â Except your little neighbour, who got the funniest idea at the age of seven, and got his skull pierced when he slipped?
âBack in my day nobody got divorced, we stuck together and fixed our problems!â What about your cousin, who was slowly killed by her husband because she had nowhere to escape him?
âBack in my day nobody had âmental problemsâ, we didnât whine, we just toughed it out and endured life!â Hey remember that guy you used to work with, who seemed really friendly and normal, and then suddenly hanged himself âfor no reasonâ?
âBack in my day we didnât have any of this âgayâ or âtransgenderâ thing.â You did, but your family cut all ties with her before you were born.
You kinda start seeing it in everything they think, if you start looking for it.
âWhen we were kids nobody whined about car seats or bike helmets. We didnât use them, and we all survived!â
Yeah, except for the ones who didnât.
Only day you can rb this

I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area theyâve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record Iâm fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
Here he is, the Aldi Cowboy
men who have a vagina and/or uterus do not systemically benefit from male privilege. its that simple
this isn't a statement that should need qualifiers to clarify intent because its true. yeah someone could use this true thing to be a dick, to bend it to mean a certain thing, especially when the person hasn't unlearned any of the oppositional sexism or transphobia theyve been taught.
but it doesn't inherently imply any of that. and it is a pretty basic feminist observation. this should be transfeminism 101. its insane that this is as controversial as it is. the fact that it isnt transfeminism 101 should tell you something about how much feminism has been held back by its own transphobia & anti-transmasculinity.
if you disagree with this statement i better not ever hear you talking about medical misogyny & the lack of research on "female bodies" or ESPECIALLY reproductive autonomy, abortion, forced pregnancy, etc. etc. because there is NO WAY! to discuss misogyny that targets the body without talking about trans men and nonbinary people and intersex people and, yes trans women, who can also overlap with all of the previous groups!
either you are a transphobe and don't care if we live or we die or you do and you should be making an effort to include us. and that means getting more comfortable with ambiguity and nuance around trans people and their relationships to patriarchy and gender oppression. and that includes trans men and masculinity/manhood in general!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there is no way around this
transfeminism should be about complicating the feminist framework that was built by & for cis perisex women. it shouldn't be about flattening trans and intersex experiences to fit into that framework. like what are we doing here can we be so for real.
every day it just concerns me how little compassion people have. no compassion for those living in the global south. no compassion for immigrants. no compassion for disabled ppl. no compassion for addicts. no compassion for prisoners. no compassion for children. like holy shit ...
i made a separate post about this but actually there are plenty of people cough white people who care about animals more than they ever do human people . not what i'm talking about make your own post
âbe gay do crime! but sex is yucky and crime is wrong!â ass website
