Fuck. Its always too good to be true. Goddammit. I've fucked up again somehow.
I just need to type this shit out because I canât even begin to process it.
Holy shit this country is a goner. It doesnât even matter if Trump doesnât win reelection... With that confirmation this country will be systematically dismantled for the next 50 years. The rich will get richer, the poor will get poorer, the people will lose their rights, and this democracy is over. I never fucking imagined that I would have to leave this country for my own safety. I never imagined that I would have to choose between my friends and family or freedom. I never imagined that my country would face itâs complete destruction in my lifetime... like what the actual fuck. I have to leave. It is no longer safe for me here. It is no longer safe for my partner in this country. Itâs no longer safe for anyone. My family certainly wonât understand. They certainly wonât leave. As fucked up as my family is I love them and itâs hugely important to me to be near them, but Iâm going to choose to leave. Because Iâm not okay with throwing my life and my future away. This sucks. This sucks so bad.
This isnât Canada-specific, but with all the mask discourse on your blog lately, I saw this Twitter thread earlier today that shows how we can all push for increased mask wearing without relying on public shaming, anger, and enforcement (the last of which will almost always involve more police).

If you want to know how we got people to comply with wearing face masks, ask a sexologist. Itâs not our first rodeo when it comes to convincing people they should wear a barrier for protection from a deadly virus. Hereâs what weâve learned from 4 decade of research on condoms:
[purple heart emoji] You canât shame, guilt, or judge people into compliance. Does not work.
[purple heart emoji] Donât lie. Donât pretend wearing it doesnât suck.
[purple heart emoji] Normalize it. Make wearing the default, the norm.
[purple heart emoji] Be consistent with messaging. Schools, workplaces, government officials, health workers & movie stars all need to be saying the same thing.
[purple heart emoji] Make them accessible. They should be free or at cost. They should be distributed in communities so wearing it is as easy as possible.
[purple heart emoji] Teach people to keep on on their person, in their purse, car, by their front door, etc. Having on on hand greatly increases the likelihood it will be used.
[purple heart emoji] Be honest, but not fear-based, about their risks of transmitting the virus without wearing one.]
Ive seen too many âbut there are two sidesâ whiners around - so hereâs my two cents on that.
But how do we stop evictions when politicians wonât respond to our needs? By shutting down the courts đđŒđđŒđđŒ
direct action works, and itâs all we can count on. The working classes only have each other to rely on
The Autonomous Tenants Union Network is holding a livestream event next Saturday, August 15th, with information and strategic advice from experienced tenant organizers who have taken actions like this before

Jury nullification. Pass it on.
Jury nullification is so fucking important.
This is something that more people should be aware of, if only because (in many states, at least) defense attorneys are actually prohibited from mentioning it to jurors. The law allows a jury to return a ânot guiltyâ verdict contrary to the facts of the case, but not for the defense to inform them of that power or to argue for its application in the current trial.
I didnât know about this. Wow.
always reblog
This is SUPER IMPORTANT and also a good reason to show up for jury duty. You know all those laws you think are stupid? This is your chance to maybe do something about it.Â
IâŠ. I thought this was common knowledge⊠signal boosting this because it obviously isnât!
Did not know this
Jury nullification in the United States has its origins in colonial British America. Similar to British law, in the United States jury nullification occurs when a jury in a criminal case reaches a verdict contrary to the weight of evidence, sometimes because of a disagreement with the relevant law.
YALL REMEMBER THIS WHEN JURY SUMMONS START GOING OUT IN AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER FOR THE PEOPLE WHOVE BEEN ARRESTED PROTESTING IN MAY AND JUNE
"Stop scrolling and please help me spread the word, because if I've landed on your page you're most likely either a black woman or someone who cares about black women and the simple phrase I'm about to share could help save a black woman's life.
Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.
If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.
And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.
So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:
I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."
This works. I have used it in other situations. If medical staff have to document and take responsibility and be on the hook legally for doing shady shit they behave much differently.
If you werenât already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because itâs applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.
But particularly women, and especially black women.
If a parent had a child they knew to be 30 minutes away and texted them out of the blue "be back in 5" - if they beat the shit out of that kid for being late, we would call that abuse.
If that parent closed off every opening in the house so the child could not enter and then blamed the child for not entering, we would call that abuse.
If that parent waited with baited breath like some kind of Cinderella for the clock to strike 8, at which point the child and all the child's friends were in immediate danger, even if the kid is literally sitting on the porch and therefore on the property - we would call that abuse.
In any situation! Where a parent beats the shit out of a kid, denies them food, water, and a bathroom for over 12 hours, allows them to pass out from thirst or hunger, or otherwise causes trauma - we would. Call that. Fucking abuse.
In abusive households, when the abuser is questioned, they become violent. If you believe that the answer is submission, you are siding with the abuse. No victim is EVER "asking for it".
If you! Are sitting at home. Biting your nails and saying "just listen! It's a curfew just listen!" PLEASE understand that if this was happening in any other nation, our media would have a field day with quips about authoritarian regimes led by a faux-religious madman. Wake up. Our nation is resorting to violence rather than admitting fault. And in a home? We would call that - abuse.

Do NOT Support âAdamâ When The Film Comes Out
Iâve talked about this before on this blog but this is the most disgustingly transphobic and lesbophobic narrative Iâve ever come across.Â
CWs: transphobia, homophobia, lesbophobia, corrective rape, voyeurism
The book Adam by Ariel Schrag is being turned into a movie which has been named as one of the most exciting LGBTQ films of the year. You should know before watching that the book is about a cis boy who pretends to be a trans man in order to persuade lesbians to sleep with him.
Yeah⊠you read that right.
Book plot summary:Â
boy spies on his lesbian sister having sex
boy decides to pretend to be a trans man (gross)
i.e. pretends to have a vagina because he thinks lesbians will want him then (he literally wants to fuck lesbians because he watched his lesbian sister have sex wtf)
he does get a lesbian to sleep with him, he straps his penis down using ace bandages and uses a strap on.
all the actual trans dudes we meet identify as lesbians this basically implies that trans men are not real men (lesbians i.e. women) Â
another time they have sex again only he uses his actual penis but tells her its a strap on. thatâs literally rape, she didnât consent to an actual penis.
he confesses that heâs been lying to her this whole time but she doesnât break up with him. she even says its okay cause she fantasised about him being âa real boy"
thatâs a direct quote. massive transphobia. huge. not to mention this is now the âlesbian is cured by dick tropeâ which is disgusting and that trope leads to real lesbians and bi women being raped to âfixâ them.Â
he leaves new york, theyâre long distance. they get in an argument and he calls her a slut and a whore among other things and then she dumps him
eventually they get back in touch and she has a new cis boyfriend so yep, sheâs been âcuredâ woo sheâs actually straight and he helped her realise that yay (massive sarcasm)
It is deeply deeply transphobic. To imply that our identities are just costumes for other people to put on erases who we are as people. More than that, to imply it is done to trick people into sex is a dangerous lie that literally gets us killed.
It is also deeply lesbophobic. To fuel this narrative that lesbians can be âfixedâ by having sex with a man leads to real corrective rapes happening.Â
Here is a review of the book by a trans man. I have yet to find one by a lesbian but will edit this if I do.
This book gives out incredibly harmful notions about trans men and lesbians that are used to hurt them in real life. Itâs so entrenched in the narrative that I donât see how the film can possibly be any better.
I do not say any of this lightly. itâs very very rare for me to call out a piece of fiction or for me to decide that a story is unfixable. But this⊠thereâs no excuse for the bigotry in this.Â
Iâd like to tell people to boycott it but I canât tell you what to do. So instead Iâm going to ask that you share this because it being named as an exciting new LGBTQ film is going to make LGBTQ teens want to see it. And they should know beforehand how hurtful it could be. They should be able to arm themselves with that knowledge.
Donât make queer kids see this film believing it will represent them only to be exposed to this hatred of their identities.Â
Please reblog.
