There’s this grandma on tiktok who posts videos where she says like things about how “you’ve come so far” and “you deserve to be valued” and also gushes about her equally wholesome husband and the other day I learned SHE has haters and that was legit comforting, because if Affirmation Grandma can have haters than anybody can.

This is so empowering to see proving that despite how hard the churches and Canadian government tried. They failed to "kill the Indian in the child" and that we will continue to flourish in our beautiful culture ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽 and we will never give up

if you weren’t aware, the remains of 215 indigenous children (some as young as 3 years old) were recently found at a former residential school in kamloops, bc, canada.

residential schools were an attempt to ‘kill the indian in the child’ by completely severing them from their culture and abusing and torturing them. the rcmp (canadian police) forcibly took around 150,000 indigenous children from their homes and forced them into these schools. these children were beaten, sexually/physically/emotionally abused, starved, and killed. 90-100% of children were severely abused, and the mortality rate was 40-60% at these schools.

the last residential school closed in 1996.
