Entry points for watching  DMBJ / The Lost Tomb

The Lost Tomb series, based on the Daomu Biji series of books, is a sprawling multi-adaptation franchise.  It can be very confusing to figure out what order to watch the shows in, which can be compounded by the fact that, depending on your tastes, the chronological order might not be the best order to get you hooked.  This post highlights some likely entry points for getting into this series and their pros and cons, so you can decide which might work best for you!

Note that another obvious point of entry into the DMBJ universe is the book series that all these adaptations are based on!  ( @laireshi​ has an intro guide to the books here.) There is also a donghua adaptation is you prefer animated series.  However, this guide is specifically focused on live action screen adaptations.  There are also several spinoff/side story movies, but as most of those make very little sense even to hardened DMBJ fans, I do not recommend any of them as starting points except one (below).

In the religion I follow, some say fate is predetermined and some say human can make their own destiny. If I remember correctly, the exact saying is something like God has known your fate.

In my personal interpretation, I like to liken it to a pendulum. Every single person’s fate is different because just like pendulum, you have a starting point, and your motion depends on your starting point and subsequent forces that come into contact with you. Every single motion varies by a slight change in starting position. Just like a double pendulum in physics. It’s basically chaotic.

Tldr; fate is like a double pendulum motion.

I’m currently enamored by orbital by yehaesuki and based on the characters can just imagine Micchi walking into Snowman’s rehearsal room and exclaiming “Meguro-senpai!” when there is a very pleasantly surprised turning disbelieving Kojipapa standing right beside Meme.

Of course the next course of events ought to be Meguro smiling and asking softly, “When did you arrive?” to which Micchi responded with a shy smile, “Just now, we were supposed to directly go to the studio but manager-san figured out we might as well pay you a visit in the rehearsal room and go there together right after,” followed by Meguro chuckling and ruffling Micchi’s hair (Koji on the side: “Micchi’s hair! My Micchi!”) while saying, “Then go wait for a bit, okay? I’m gonna finish real fast,” replied with Micchi nodding, all the while smiling shyly and looking from under his lashes. It’s only when Meguro walked into the door followed by Micchi’s gaze that Koji tackled him, waking him up from his stupor.
