Dear Anthony Head, thank you for being our wry librarian, mentor and tv dad.
My dad introduced me to Buffy in the early days of lockdown, and by winter 2020, it was our routine to watch an episode every evening. Giles reminded me a lot of dad, a cynic Brit with a passion for books and a wicked sense of humour. My dad and I have never had a very vocal relationship, but I think that BTVS did some of the talking for him.
Like in season 2, when Giles tells Buffy
"If it's guilt you're looking for, Buffy, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is, is my support... and my respect."
Dad just happened to pause it then and asked if I wanted a drink since he was going to make tea, that was his way of saying: I'm proud of you.
Giles, you're a legend, thanks for saving the world a bunch. Today, Sunnydale is a little less sunny without you.
