Since deciding to stay on Earth, Chalcedony’s favorite activity had to be climbing trees. Trees themselves were interesting enough on their own, but she also liked the view.

She could have had the same view or better by shape-shifting wings, but this took a lot less energy and was much more calming. The gem absentmindedly stroked the tree’s bark as she stared out to the horizon.

Chrysocolla, who have been roaming the nearby forest for quite some time, noticed someone who was perched a top of one of the branches. Curious, she took a running start and leapt from tree to tree, landing carefully on a branch above the other’s.

Sitting down, she fell backwards whilst keeping her grip on the branch with her legs. Chrys’ big one eye was in the other person’s face and she smiled. “Hello, stranger.”

Startled, Chalcedony clenched her fists and jumped backwards, almost falling off the branch. She gasped, “Oh my stars!”

She took a big breath to calm herself. “Do you greet people like this a lot?” she asked and gave a small laugh.

Chrys laughed and spun around till she was sitting right beside the other gem. Fixing her hair, she looked to the other. “Not unless they’re as cute as you, my name is Chrysocolla, call me Chrys.”

She offered her hand to her “and yours?”

Chalcedony shook the other gem’s hand. “Chalcedony or Chal’s fine,” she responded.

“What brings you here of all places? This is pretty secluded,” she asked, curious. She hadn’t seen another gem for a few weeks.

Chrys hummed. “Well, I was going to ask you that actually… but if you must know, I was traveling through here to get to the next town over.”

“I’m just a person that likes to travel and meet new people.”

She shifted her legs in a more comfortable position. “Same here, Earth has a lot of stuff to see,” she said.

“Anything special in the town you’re going to?” she inquired.

Chrys grinned and opened her mouth to speak before her stomach growled. “Oh… hahaha.” She burst out laughing. “Well… I heard they had great food there!”

“You wanna come with me?”

“I could go for some munchies! How far is this place?”

Chrys took out her map from her gem and looked over it. “Hmm, from here, three miles! Let’s get going Chal.”

Jumping down from the branch, she landed gracefully on the ground.

Chalcedony hopped down after her. “So what kind of food do they have? I love the fried stuff. Mmmmmm!” She patted her belly.

Walking with her, Chrys stored her map away. “I heard they’re known for having a whole festival-like buffet area, different dishes only native to their town. It’s a huge tourist attraction to well-informed foodies.”

“Sounds amazing!” she said while balancing on a fallen tree.

“So what’s your story? You part of the Crystal Gems or something? Just on Earth for fun?”

“Hehe, well, I use to be a diplomat for Homeworld. But me and a few others try to persuade them not to colonize the Earth, it was mostly cause I wanted to see how everything will change here in say, a few hundred years. I joined the rebellion, then sort of sidestepped away after we won. So yea, here for fun.”

Chrys jumped over a huge boulder in the path. “And may I ask about the lore behind you?”

She smirked. “A diplomat? Faaancy!” she said with a giggle. “I actually…ahhh….fought for the Diamonds.”

“I was a guard for Blue Diamond until the war started and then joined the soldiers against the Crystal Gems.” Her face went blank as she explained this.

She shook her head to bring herself back to the present. “Its not like that anymore, though. Team Earth!” She pumped her fist in the air.“

Chrys chuckled, mimicking her action with softer enthusiasm “team earth!” She sniffed the air and licked her lips “ooo, I can smell the food from here! Let us make haste!”

Picking up speed, Chrys jogged in the direction of the aroma.

Chalcedony followed close behind. “Excited much? This stuff must be really good!”

Stopping at the entrance of a town, Chrys quickly shapeshifted so she would have two eyes instead of one. From within the town, many tourists and natives mingled with plates of food, shopping bags, etc. “I have a reason to be.”

“There are a LOT of humans here. Do you think they’ll be cool with colorful aliens?” She looked around at everything around her, excited.

“They’ll think we’re just foreigners… LOOK!” She pointed to a nearby food stand. “They’re serving funnel cake!” Her eyes surveyed the area for more food stands. “There’s a smoothie stand too, and apple fritters over there!” Chrys was getting excited, seeing so many things at once.

Grabbing Chalcedony’s hand, she smiled brightly “Cmon Chal, we have to try them all!”

“I’m coming, I’m coming!” she giggled, infected by Chrys’ enthusiam.

“Can we try the smoothies first? They look really yummy.”

“Where do you think I was going?” She laughed and went for the smoothie stand. Ignoring the stares directed to their colorful appearance, Chrys ordered an apple smoothie.

“Hey, what do you want? I’m paying.” Waving a card

She looked at all the flavors, wide-eyed. “I’ll try…the cherry one!”

Chrys order the cherry, quickly paying and giving Chalcedony her smoothie. Drinking hers, she let out a sigh. “Man, this stuff tastes so good!”

Chalcedony excitedly sips hers as well but then makes a pained face. “Ahhh…nnnn…” she rubs her forehead. “Brain freeze…”

Chrys laughed, helped her rub her head. “Careful now! It’s good, but drink slower than me.”

"Urgh, ok, I think its gone now." She sipped slower.

"So that card you used...what is that? How does it work to pay for things?"

Walking with her, Chrys stored her map away. “I heard they’re known for having a whole festival-like buffet area, different dishes only native to their town. It’s a huge tourist attraction to well-informed foodies.”

“Sounds amazing!” she said while balancing on a fallen tree.

“So what’s your story? You part of the Crystal Gems or something? Just on Earth for fun?”

“Hehe, well, I use to be a diplomat for Homeworld. But me and a few others try to persuade them not to colonize the Earth, it was mostly cause I wanted to see how everything will change here in say, a few hundred years. I joined the rebellion, then sort of sidestepped away after we won. So yea, here for fun.”

Chrys jumped over a huge boulder in the path. “And may I ask about the lore behind you?”

She smirked. “A diplomat? Faaancy!” she said with a giggle. “I actually…ahhh….fought for the Diamonds.”

“I was a guard for Blue Diamond until the war started and then joined the soldiers against the Crystal Gems.” Her face went blank as she explained this.

She shook her head to bring herself back to the present. “Its not like that anymore, though. Team Earth!” She pumped her fist in the air.“

Chrys chuckled, mimicking her action with softer enthusiasm “team earth!” She sniffed the air and licked her lips “ooo, I can smell the food from here! Let us make haste!”

Picking up speed, Chrys jogged in the direction of the aroma.

Sitting down, she fell backwards whilst keeping her grip on the branch with her legs. Chrys’ big one eye was in the other person’s face and she smiled. “Hello, stranger.”

Startled, Chalcedony clenched her fists and jumped backwards, almost falling off the branch. She gasped, “Oh my stars!”

She took a big breath to calm herself. “Do you greet people like this a lot?” she asked and gave a small laugh.

Chrys laughed and spun around till she was sitting right beside the other gem. Fixing her hair, she looked to the other. “Not unless they’re as cute as you, my name is Chrysocolla, call me Chrys.”

She offered her hand to her “and yours?”

Chalcedony shook the other gem’s hand. “Chalcedony or Chal’s fine,” she responded.

“What brings you here of all places? This is pretty secluded,” she asked, curious. She hadn’t seen another gem for a few weeks.

Chrys hummed. “Well, I was going to ask you that actually… but if you must know, I was traveling through here to get to the next town over.”

“I’m just a person that likes to travel and meet new people.”

She shifted her legs in a more comfortable position. “Same here, Earth has a lot of stuff to see,” she said.

“Anything special in the town you’re going to?” she inquired.
