She flinches when you touch her, it is a conditioned response from a life of battered nerves, and you can’t imagine how it is that she can still ask you to wrap your arms around her, when so many other arms have been cages.

Each one of us has gotta do our work in healing ourselves, in stopping the cycle of being broken and breaking others. We can blame the people who broke us, and they can blame the people who broke them, and so on, ad infinitum, but at some point it has to stop. Someone has to chose to break the chain. It’s the only way our world will improve.
Negativity, bitterness, resentment, hostility, these are all contagious, all easily spread. We all have to work on curing ourselves. The only other option is perpetually passing this pain onto one another. A rolling epidemic of suffering.
If healing is gonna happen, it’s gotta be on an individual level. This world is made of people, not abstract concepts, not political policies, but living, breathing people. Human beings. Individuals. We are what makes this world what it is. So we can’t sit and wait for the world to fix itself. That makes no sense. We are the world. Each one of us has to play our part in our collective healing. It’s the only way.
Please repeat after me:
There is no right way to have trauma
Your trauma is valid even when it presents in less common or embarrassing ways
You don’t need to be the perfect trauma patient to still be affected by trauma
You can have steps forward and steps back while dealing with trauma
Trauma and its experiences vary greatly from person to person and not everyone reacts to the same trauma in the same way
Your trauma and your feelings matter
Trauma does not make you crazy or less of a person

I think that’s what happens when you’ve lived a lonely childhood. You get too attached to people as you get older, in the hope that they’ll give you the care and love that you missed out on and never leave you.

I know I’m a hard person I do. I’m sensitive, I’m moody, I have bad anger, and I need constant reassurance. I’m fearful of to many things and I tend to overthink. But please don’t think that that’s all I am. I can be nice, I can be strong, I can be calm. I can also be brave and I can also control my thoughts. If you catch me on a day where I’m being hard, don’t think that’s all I am.
