i earned a soft spot for sabito and was working on oc lore for 3 trillion bajillion years (i love giyuu a lot and i kiss him sloppy style at the dinner table)(same goes for douma but im also stepping on his foot and biting him because i haye to love and love to hate him)

gula as a character is pretty much just me. his circumstance reflects my own back during a time when i struggled greatly. in snowhare, he's taken to the eternal paradise faith. He stays human, but he doesnt heal so much as become dependent on one source of love. he does get better slowly but surely, and despite how insane douma is, it's actually fairly healthy? however healthy a romantic relationship between a human and a demon can even be. in swamprabbit, tamayo takes him in and nurses his mind and body after he surrenders his personhood. he gains what he considers a family, and branches out to obtain many different skills despite his fears, eventually coming into contact with the demon slayer corps, and meeting a partner he cares rather deeply for.

between the two, the one who worries is actually the water hashira. gula does actually worry very deeply for him, but the hashira worries far more due to Gula's proximity to poisons that could kill him and being a traitor to muzan definitely doesnt help. when it comes to this, the hashira's brain is overactive, even if he doesn't want to admit it. but this situation doesnt bother gula. he trusts in tamayo and even asks shinobu to help him build tolerance/resistence to wisteria poisons to aid him in foraging. gula worries about the hashira's situation as well, but this one, he feels, is more justified. being in high stakes situations, unable to regenerate their bodies the way demons can? well.. he trusts in the water one's strength, but he also always races to him when they meet again, rubbing his cheek against the other's as a way to show his relief that he's still alright. they both care very deeply for each other, even if gula is a demon and the hashira is a human.
despite how disgusting shinobu originally deemed gula, they ended up becoming friendly with each other due to their similar natures and objectives. shinobu tells gula to disregard the water hashira often, especially after gula confides his feelings about the water hashira to her, telling him to go after someone better for him, rather than the #lameoemodude. gula does end up listening for a while, until tanjiro has to butt in because he notices the water hashira's fouler mood and lack of company from gula. gula ends up another motherly figure to inosuke, despite his demonhood.

uhh spoilers below for anime only
after having to eat inosuke's mother, douma didn't know if he should have another pet. it was when some of his followers brought in this beaten, starved and filthy lady, hair long and matted and eyes dull. gula never put up a fight, accepting his fate. but he wouldnt speak, he wouldn't look into anyone's eyes, he hated being seen. and it caught douma's interest. such an exotic person in his cult who didnt want to even speak to him, let alone dump their issues onto him for him to listen to and maybe even solve? it was so intriguing, he had to take Gula in and see what his true personality was like.
the trauma from his situation made gula constantly keep his distance. and douma didn't really enjoy that his pet wasn't very affectionate at all. but when gula wasn't aware of douma's presence, he would sing to himself, tap small beats on the floor, sleep so soundly. sometimes, douma could hear gula's voice through whimpering little sobs after night terrors. he loves the little drawings gula made, how soft gula's skin was how gently gula carried himself.
to douma, gula was a puzzle and a pet. the perfect game to come back to. to gula, douma was the caretaker that ruined his chance at death. but gula cracks one day, begging for douma to kill him. And despite how eager douma would normally have been, he decided he wanted to keep gula, not just scrap all the progress he made for his pet.
Gula develops an intense emotional bond with douma as a result, and even after learning that douma is a demon, he just cant find it in himself to be afraid. douma, to him, is someone who cares about him more than even his bloodfamily did, and someone who he cant throw away. he becomes more like a pet. Gula sings to him, rests against and craves attention from him, and misses him when he's gone.
so i have another self insert cuz my friend got me into demon slayer ooouuff fearfearfear ,, his name is Gula. bros a girl, but he uses primarily masculine terms and prefers to be regarded as male despite his appearance. hes deeply afraid of being seen or recognised but he enjoys making jewellery and sets up shop at night to sell his stock ( which does pretty well !)
im not entirely sure whether i want him to be a demon of Lady Tamayo's creation or one who ends up with Muzan's blood and thus has to sever his connection on his own, but I do know that I want him alongside Lady Tamayo and Yushiro, since he does regard Yushiro as a little brother ( despite yushiro being older than gula chronologically )
Either way his backstory remains relatively the same. His family decides that for Gula's 18th birthday, they would visit Japan and so he spends his last week being 17 in Japan exploring the towns, fashions and nightlife. His lungs were bad as a result of attempting to bind to lessen his feelings of gender dysphoria, but nothing helped and eventually he ended up with pneumonia at 16ish and it caused this talk about him needing to indulge in femininity without guilt , which he already did . In Japan , his brother takes advantage of him and it causes Gula to dissociate and become miserable. When he finally confides in his father a few days later , his family talks it over and decides to leave Gula in Japan to die in order to save his brother's reputation, since he was going to be the one to pass the family name . Not Gula .
The split is here . Either Gula is enraged and offended at such a thing and with Muzan in the area, he decides to twist this rage and Gula kills his family and manages to get away it it ( eventually, when the rage dies down he feels intense guilt, realising he played god in a way that is completely irredeemable and from then on tries to repent for his sins, doing everything in his power to sever his connection and eventually comes into contact with Lady Tamayo, who offers him refuge and a safe space and they develop a familial relationship )
or, in so much peril, Gula does absolutely nothing and is frozen in his own head, withering into nothing in the streets of Asakusa, being found by Tamayo and being offered a chance to keep living in exchange for his personhood. So they develop this mother-daughter-esque bond.
In both, Gula is completely devoted to Lady Tamayo and would lay down his life to protect her. What I'm more than likely to do is just keep one as an AU for Douma, but worry not about that.
three doodles of me trying to figure out dynamics. Gula's family is rather wealthy and Gula was also rather intelligent for an assumed lady at his time. thus most of his attempts at love failed quickly and his family was under the assumption he would never marry or bear children. He was often disregarded for the bright future his brother held as a result.
modern au stuff. is g*yuu is a PE teacher.. gula can be an etsy seller for quirky jewellery who also works at a physical shop in the downtown area. he likes looser clothes but still wears ruffled clothes at times for the aesthetics.
proper fullbody work of gula. he has an anklet with leaf charms and a small capped bottle holding a thick yellow fluid ( likely honey ). On his head, he wears a black sunhat with a flat top decorated with 3 ruffled flowers that look to be red carnations and leaves on vines that extend off the hat, and a white ribbon. His hair is styled from a straight bob to a curled updo with loose curls framing his face. His skin is tan, a darker peachy-orange shade. His eyes are a pomegranate red that fade to a pink colour and his pupils are slitted as are other demons' eyes. Hes wearing a ruffled cream top with a large black ribbon around his collar that extends down to his abdoment which is where the long skirt's hem begins. It's a sort of outer corset looking garment that extends down to the skirt itself which is flat and not pleated. on his right arm he wears a fuzzy glove that extends up to his elbow. the glove resembles an exaggeratedly large cat's paw with claws made of felt. his left arm wears no such thing, and it can be seen the fingernails are sharp as a demon's are. The left hand holds a dangling hook earring of a small jar of honey and a small decorative glass leaf on it. gula isnt wearing shoes which reveals the sharp claws on his toenails as well.

Despite Yushiro being older than Gula, Gula still regards him as a baby due to his appearance. Gula is best represented by a rabbit, despite wanting to seem catlike.
"We slowly began to drift apart... I say slow, but it was rather sudden. People would flock her, fill her world with gifts and compliments." Ruby stirs his Flaaffy Latte, the foam on top mixing brown with the espresso. "She forgot about me. She blew me off to be with other people, and we lost contact. The very last time we were together, she was bored of me, tired of my clinginess, my neediness... She snapped and told me to leave her alone. To stop stalking her."
Ruby's Umbreon, Beans, chirrups a sad low sound, butting her head against his arm.
"I had lost my only friend then. Life got lonelier, but.. Beans was at my side every step of the way. Now we own this cafe together. The regulars love our peace, it's warm."
Ruby gives a tired smile. "We want nothing more than to fill bellies and offer a comforting space."
