Decades from now when you’re resting on your deathbed, you will not remember the days that were easy, you will cherish the moments when you rose above your difficulties and conquered goals of magnitude. You will dream of the strength you found within yourself that allowed you to achieve what once seemed impossible. So don’t do what’s easy, do what you’re capable of. Astound yourself with your own greatness.

Remind yourself every day: just because you are unstable, doesn’t mean you are unable. You have the power to keep fighting despite your demons. Don’t let them win. Never give up.

Don’t get mad. Don’t get even. Do better. Much better. Rise above. Become so engulfed in your own success that you forget it ever happened.

Don’t say, “I am depressed.” If you want to say, “It is depressed,” that’s all right. If you want to say depression is there, that’s fine; if you want to say gloominess is there, that’s fine. But not: I am gloomy. You’re defining yourself in terms of the feeling. That’s your illusion; that’s your mistake. There is a depression there right now, there are hurt feelings there right now, but let it be, leave it alone. It will pass. Everything passes, everything.

Premed sucks because it’s just a lot of stress and crying and hating the one thing that you really do love (science) and in your heart you know it’s all worth it but in the moment sometimes it’s hard to see past the discomfort, sadness, & loneliness of it all.
