I hate this modern misogynistic narrative that is being pushed onto girls and being masked as feminism and girl power. if you’re telling girls to wear a face full of makeup, break boys’ hearts, and wear pink dresses, you’re not empowering girls, you’re pushing traditional feminine values onto them and telling them to adapt to the traits that patriarchy has been forcing them to accept. if you can’t handle girls who hate makeup and girls who don’t want to date boys and girls who are fat and have body hair and wrinkles and girls who are loud and masculine, you’re not supporting girls
This is important, but there’s also the flip of this where we tell young girls that if they choose to wear dresses and date boys they’re following the problematic gender roles. I’ve seen girls get called basic and thots so many times just because they choose to wear makeup. Female heroes who don’t throw a punch get called weak. Forcing young girls to reject their personalities and interests because they happen to fit into the shitty values of the 60s is just as wrong as forcing those values. Any time we as a society tell girls that they have to follow a certain guild of feminism it’s negative. Kids and tweens don’t fully understand the societal impacts their hobbies fell into. Telling them that what their doing is wrong will only make them feel bad about themselves, not the activity. We gotta support girls -and boys- for what they want to do instead of taring down their interest.
(I’m reblogging this to this blog bc I’m very passionate about this.)
I really appreciate the people who speak out against tearing down of others... Encouragement and support are the pillars in which help those going through tough times balance themselves! Continue to spread love not hate! You never know who my be drawing inspiration from empowering words!❤❤❤
