Libraries
“Make your child’s first card, a library card”. This is the slogan I see as I enter the library. Unfortunately the reality these days is that many adults instead hold credit cards!
In recent conversations with my mates, the topic of library books came up when asking how my puppy was going. I replied that he had in fact chewed up a book and I had to pay up. Paying for books is something I’ve been able to avoid through my library membership.
Being a child, I remember having a library bag and as a ritual going each week to borrow and return. It seems as though this routine is dropped away by the time we get old - perhaps because we start to form new memories and associate experiences with study. Whatever the reason, there is so much to be gained from visiting your local library.
These days, you can browse the catalog online and request pick up. Leave it to the librarians to place the book on the hold shelf for you. Libraries are often open extended hours until 6pm weekdays and on weekends. When returning the item, there are after hours slots available and you can return to any library - not specifically the same location. If you do have time, it can be fun to browse the shelves and come across titles/subjects that you wouldn’t think to search for.
If you want on demand access to your reads, then you also have access to online ebooks. There are different apps and software programs to retrieve these so it’s best to use the main library catalogue to search for titles instead of searching in the particular app.
In addition to books, there are also a heap of audio books, dvds, magazines, music scores, programs, etc. at the library all available and accessible to learn every day.
