whoever was in charge of cinematography for the hadestown proshot needs 500 awards immediately
a crude summary of one of my favorite musicals
Thinking about the Hadestown proshot and Orpheus being introduced wiping down a table with his back to the audience. Hermes has to call out to him again to get him to take his opening bow, and for the show to start, Orpheus has to turn around.
personally I'm annoyed by the socioeconomic conditions that made words like "unalive" necessary but simultaneously impressed by the linguistic adaptations young people have made to continue talking about important things while subject to those conditions and I think if you can't hold both of those thoughts in your head you might just be old man yelling at cloud
i really really love amber grays persephone in the proshot and im really glad she didnt tone it down for filming like she said she wouldve if she had really thought about it because ohhhh my god. holy shit. her expressions and all the just. the freakinge. acting she did made the whole thing. like she added 30 layers of depth just by being there with her face

Among the many amazing aspects of the Hadestown pro-shot, one of my favorites is the way Patrick Pages injury provides an excellent example of how disability does not have to be barrier to musical theatre. The way his injury was presented, especially in Hades and Persephone's dance, shows how with enough care, choreography and blocking can be modified for a disability and still present a beautiful story. In fact, the pro-shot shows how disability can not only be accommodated, but also utilized for characterization and storytelling.
"he has the kind of love for her that you and i once had."
i know most leftists agree that everybody should have a right to food, water, shelter, and healthcare but i think a vitally important fifth pillar is privacy. people should not be compelled to be tracked, monitored, or to share personal space with others to access their other essential rights
"If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" is and always has been fascist rhetoric everyone.
There's an open pit in the middle of our office plan that drops down into a bunch of very sharp spikes that kill you instantly. This is bad. People keep falling in there and dying. Someone put a sign up, the other day, all bright yellow so you can't miss it, that says "Beware!!! Spikes!!!"
The office immediately split into two factions over it. One says that if anyone falls in the spike pit it's their own fault for being so stupid and not watching where they're walking, so we should remove the sign. The other says that the sign is an insult, there shouldn't be a spike pit in our office at all, and having the sign up like that is just normalising the existence of the spike pit, so we should remove the sign.
We ended up removing the sign. Probably for the better. Still... for a while there it looked like it might have worked...
Nobody has ever been capable of writing a scathingly harsh and well formulated satire about the perils of modern capitalism, that doesn't just get immediately one-upped by some random food service worker talking about their actual week.
(visibly shaken) iām so good at pretending im okay (everyone around can see itās evident i am in extreme emotional distress and rapidly declining) im doing so good guys
critical role fandom misogyny can sometimes feel even more egregious than regular fandom misogyny because the usual suspects can't even fall back on the usual 'well the female characters are all underwritten and unrealistic while the male characters get better writing' excuse. the female characters are almost all "written" and played by women. obviously people are allowed to have favorites, but thereās a pattern in the fandom where the womenās struggles and importance to the story are often downplayed in favor of the menās. male pcs are allowed to be flawed and emotionally complicated in ways that female pcs often arenāt given the same grace for, without getting relentlessly criticized for it
beau and thaisha are both major drivers in their campaigns but often get treated as supporting characters in the stories of the men around them rather than protagonists in their own right

you make one fucking post where the point is āwomen are encouraged to develop disordered eating from a very young age and that impacts how we view the ānaturalā size and shape of womenā and too many reblogs later i am being accused of saying short people wouldnāt exist if they ate better growing up. iām sorry but if you genuinely think i was saying that you are just a buffoon. i cannot and will not sanction your buffoonery.
