I am back!!! Was cooking up ideas for a while then just recently watched Dragons Rising season 2, go watch it if you haven't/can because it's awesome! Without further ado, enjoy these ideas, kinda ramble a bit. +1 animatic idea btw.

What if Kai just had a way with snakes? Anytime a serpentine character is involved they intentionally try to avoid him to which Kai notices and attempts to ask why. In general the serpentine just find Kai appealing, could also be that they're cold blooded and Kai is a human heater but to the serpentine, he simply has this relaxing aura/vibe to him. S1 the serpentine avoid hurting him at all costs and don't really understand why but just follow it like an instinct.
-With the great devourer (since the overlord said so himself, he possessed the giant snake himself) she screeched to a stop in front of Kai (who is still figuring stuff out) and proceeded to act like a touch-starved puppy and practically beg Kai for attention (somewhere still in the city after the destruction, however all people see is Garmadon going to confront her and then she slithers off so Harumi's story is still set). Kai, not understanding, just accepts it and for some reason seems to understand hidden feelings of the snake.
-With the anacondrai serpent on Chen's island, Kai stays behind to listen to her(?) feelings before gently talking to her, she(?) accepts Kai over Clouse, because knowing Clouse he probably used a spell on the serpent.
-With Wojira, he cautiously walks up to her and says he understands her feelings and explains what she's doing is wrong blah blah becoming a snake dad, to which she becomes docile (breaking Kalmaar's control and still eating him) and pouts near Kai as he explains to the others while petting her.
-Pythor and Aspheera would be the only snakes to be an enemy to Kai
-How Kai seems to understand hidden feelings or serpentine: for him, it's like voices in his head. The voices are the true feelings that the serpentine nearby is/are feeling.

Kai: Awe, cute toys but try my little army *Great Devourer, Anacondrai Serpent & Wojira + serpentine tribes show up behind him*

(Inspired by a post about Kai liking and enjoying that he's the team's ragdoll that I absolutely cannot find in my likes- but credits to that post-er)
Occasionally, when Kai doesn't get enough sleep one night but he's too much of a fomo, Zane carries him on his back tied by a sheet (like you would an infant except on the back)

I love the fact that Kai started a dojo for kids to learn self-defense but the way the show executed it was poor, so! Kai was actually a good sensei and taught the kids good and valuable lessons, most from experience. However -this is where the angst comes in- he puts on a mask for the kids, to be a pillar of strength for them to look up to -like he did with Nya and that hits him hard- but whenever there's break or no class day, Kai would have breakdowns and on the worse days, violent meltdowns (because it's Kai) where he'd destroy everything in his room before waking up in his bed with blood covered fists and feeling like he got hit by a truck. When kids ask why he has bandages, he tells them it's for practice and avoids having the kids wander into his room.

'Mama's Boy' (Dominic Fike) Animatic Idea:
• M-A-M-A B-O-Y (1), Mama's boy (x2) = Kai & Maya moments
• Mama's boy (x2) + the drop = screen dims + the day the parents disappear
• M-A-M-A B-O-Y (x2), Mama's boy (x4) = Kai struggling to take care of him & Nya then to them finding their parents & aftermath
• M-A-M-A B-O-Y (x2), Mama's boy (x4) = Nya merging with the sea with Kai yelling at Maya about what she said to Nya

When Kai was alone after the merge and before finding the monastery, voices developed in his head. Some from insecurities, some to mock him and very few that reassure him. He struggles to ignore them and when he returns to Lloyd, he sticks around him as much as possible. He does it to ignore the voices and because being alone for too long caused them to appear however when the voices get too much he'll isolate himself and have mini breakdowns.

Instead of Kai getting corrupted as he did in the show by the staff of elements, after using it to give himself enough time to smash it, he goes to smash it however his body stops responding to him and his mind is slowly being taken over by the immense power of the staff and the fact that so many elements are contained in one place. He calls for the others to help and tries to inform them about what's happening but the staff takes full control of his body, like a vessel.
