Pharaun Mizzrym from the War of the Spider Queen series
shauriofabydos:
“The goddess?” She lifts an eyebrow curiously. She’s heard a good deal about the drow religion since first visiting his world. Undeniably, it was one of the more unsettling that she’d seen… And after her experience with the GOA’ULD, that threshold was high. But despite her curiosity, she can’t help the note of skepticism in her voice. “Dare I ask what she was like?”
Her better judgement tells her that she shouldn’t reveal too much – but the mischievousness in her can’t resist. “Though I’m sure I can guess,” she adds. “I’ve met more than my share of goddesses….”
“Simpering, sniveling creatures of the surface, no doubt.” Whatever Sha’uri’s intention with the remark, he wasn’t IMPRESSED-- or if he was, he was too stubborn to show it. “Bestowing their mercy and blessings upon every invalid that stumbles through their temple doors.”
“Lolth was nothing less than you might expect from a goddess of chaos. Terrible, magnificent, beautiful-- I’ve never found the words to describe her, and that fact frustrates me. Resigned though my soul may be to her charge, when I die many centuries from now, I don’t look forward to standing under her burning gaze once more.”
sunshinedoomguide:
She had to wonder at that, even if she didn’t want to; her family was large and loud and chaotic, and the siblings all squabbled over who was the favorite child with a little too much venom not to be real, but they didn’t blame each other for things going wrong, and no one actually tried to kill each other.
That time she skewered her brother had been entirely an accident and he hadn’t even lost dexterity in his fingers.
“Not while I’m here,” she said simply, and poured him a glass of wine. Whatever he had done, she wouldn’t let someone be murdered in front of her. “It won’t help in the morning, but it’ll help now,” she offered as she passed it over.
It took her a moment to realize what he’d asked, and truce or not, she had to stare at him. “Why?” she asked, more curious than suspicious. She would have thought that details about human families would have been the last thing a drow wizard would be honestly curious about. Rotating the stem of her wine glass, she shrugged. “I’ve two younger brothers and three younger sisters, in that order,” she said quietly. “The older four are married, so I’m an aunt to…shit. I think there’s two nephews but there could be three, and a niece. I can’t keep track.” She’d been gone too long to know.
He gave her a contemplative stare in response to her reassurance. Perhaps he had misinterpreted her meaning, but she sounded almost... protective. Not for SENTIMENTAL reasons, of course. They hated each other, and a frank conversation stranded in an empty tavern during a snowstorm wasn’t going to change that. It was ideological, probably.
Still-- there were precious few people in his life who had openly declared a willingness to defend him, and the unexpected gesture left him feeling confused. Scornful. Vulnerable. He clamped down on the thought, shutting it out before it could grow.
He’d been away from home for too long, clearly.
“I’m a wizard,” he told her, as if that was all the explanation that was needed. “Curiosity is in my nature. I know all about drow familial units-- and quite a bit about duergar and svirfneblin. Humans I’ve only read about. I’d like to know how much of it was true.” The logic was sound, whether or not she chose to believe it. Perhaps his curiosity WAS more than academic-- that didn’t mean he was going to run off and find himself a nice surface girl.
sunshinedoomguide:
“Yes, we most certainly will,” she had to say. Really, it surprised her how much the drow announced they were going to conquer the surface, and then spent their entire time complaining about the place.
She nearly swore when she saw him rub his temples. Light on snow was unpleasant even for her, and she knew what it felt like, to have all her senses protest a place was wrong. If she was a better paladin, she’d have more sympathy, offer to try to heal him: she just didn’t want to, and she pragmatically figured it wouldn’t work anyways.
“Look, we’re stuck here; we may as well have a truce,” was the best she could manage, a little blunt and gruff. “Could be worse; we could be stuck with family instead,” she added as she poured a glass of wine.
Pharaun snorted, one hand still pressing into his temple even as he cast a sidelong glance in Iswen’s direction. “You’re not wrong,” he conceded, smiling in spite of himself. “If my mother or my sister were here, it’s highly unlikely that I’d still be ALIVE.”
Briefly he wondered about her family. There had to be some sort of unpleasantness between them for her to prefer the company of a drow-- but whatever it was, he didn’t imagine it was anything to shed blood over. That was how surface families worked: they didn’t compete with each other, they protected each other.
The thought made Pharaun uncomfortable.
“Tell me about them.” The request came slow. He was so preoccupied with his thoughts, it took him a moment to clarify-- “Your FAMILY, I mean.”
needsnohero:
She presses her lips tight, clearly holding back a more insolent reply. Her eyes roam the room instead, glancing out to the dark, dingy cavern beyond with a pointedness that might be hard to ignore.
“It’s cold, yes. But it’s beautiful too.” Eira turns a wry look on him. “You should try it once before you cast stones, at least.”
“You’re assuming I haven’t.” He rounds the table at the center of the room, coming to stand beside her so that he can follow her gaze-- though he knows full well the focus of her attention.
“Weather phenomena don’t suit me. And neither does the changing of the seasons, for that matter. It seems terribly inconvenient compared to the comfortable shelter of the Underdark.” Though he stubbornly clings to his stance, he can’t deny that she has a point. Pharaun is a SENSUALIST-- he revels in new experiences above all else. And the surface-- savage, hostile place that it is-- is rife with wonders.

shauriofabydos:
Despite her strong objections, the hint of a smile flickers on her lips. At least he’s honest. Small consolation… but better than nothing at all, she supposes. Horrifying as his claims may be, she much prefers THIS to cloying excuses.
“Of course – as long as your own skin is saved, the rest is inconsequential.” The touch of sarcasm in her voice shows her disapproval. But she knows better than to try and reform him. She’s not sure she even has the skill for that if – even if she WISHED to. “Tell me then, what’s the MOST you can get away with? Surely for a man of your talent, that list is not long…” she adds with a smirk she quickly conceals.
He breathes a sharp laugh, shaking his head. “If I had a proper answer for you, I’d be terribly unimaginative,” he tells her with a quiet click of his tongue. “I have ventured to the Abyss and beyond-- mastered a ship of chaos and sailed to the heart of the Demonweb Pits-- knocked on the goddess’s front door and entertained her unholy attentions, however brief.”
He lingers on that thought, calling to mind the memories of that trying quest. Since then, everything he’s done-- even his most ambitious machinations-- have felt mundane by comparison. “In light of that, there are few things beyond my grasp. For all the rest, it’s merely a matter of TIMING.”
sunshinedoomguide:
“I can think of worse,” Iswen commented from her place at the mostly-deserted inn’s bar. Just her damned luck she’d been left stranded among strangers that included the drow. “Sandstorms, for one.”
“Which offers little in the way of CREDIT on behalf of the accursed surface. The only advantage to an open sky overhead is the capacity for larger structures-- all the rest, you can keep.” He leaned forward in his seat, rubbing at his temples to ease a headache. All this light was wreaking havoc on his senses.
“I often think of your hands. Soft, slender fingers with a map of veins dancing beneath the surface. They have created, they have destroyed, and I long to feel them around my neck.”

// Mm, but what if instead of a dwarven Inquisitor blog I made an Aeducan Warden blog...
shauriofabydos:
“Mmm, I see... Clearly, your people relish life – in ALL its variety,” she says dryly. She’s learned that harboring outrage at the things he says is more exhausting than it’s worth. She raises an eyebrow. “Tell me – to satisfy my own curiosity – is there anything you DO deem… off-limits?”
He grins, reveling in her revulsion just a little too much. He doesn’t consider himself EVIL-- though he knows most non-drow see him that way. He’s just willing to do anything in the name of self interest.
“Anything I can’t get away with.” He pauses to let that sink in. “And a number of things that-- appealing as they may be-- come with too dire of consequences.”
“I can’t imagine how surfacers abide SNOW. It’s quite possibly the most miserable phenomenon I’ve ever experienced.”
“Yes-- I murdered one of my sisters and dallied with the other. In Menzoberranzan that’s about as RARE as a goblin with bad teeth.”
faernn:
Fingers spasm in a moment of shock, nearly losing her grip on the towel. Not like she’d care if he saw her naked —- but it’s the principle of the thing.
“Yes,” she agrees drily, an aggravated arch of her brow, “that’s USUALLY the case, isn’t it?”
“Not at all. I’ve found that most locked doors are due to an overabundance of paranoia, particularly relative to the lack of valuables behind them. The life of a trespasser can be disappointing, I’m afraid.”
He leans against the doorframe, apparently distracted by the thought-- and making no move to retreat. He so LOVES testing Kendrial’s patience.

ramblingsofamoonwatcher:
The dazzling lilac magic caught Hithfaeril’s attention, pulling her out from the depths of her indecisiveness and back into the real world. Her emerald eyes helplessly followed the wisps as they flowed over her sheets (without leaving a trace of their presence) and curled back to Pharaun’s midnight skin.
While the Mage could– and had proven himself to be– immensely irritating, he was easy on the eyes and his voice was pleasing to listen to. It would be even better to hear it strained in ecstacy, perhaps even spilling her name with a whimper. However, Hithfaeril doubted Pharaun would be the submissive type. She also had doubts that he would be able to handle two Elves. Specifically with herself in consideration as she typically had a voracious appetite, climaxing quickly with a drive to get-there multiple times.
Her fingers nimbly worked at her sword belt and then the ties of her leggings as she replied, her eyes entranced by the purple whisping along Pharaun’s skin. “As soon as we are done I want your companion out of my house.” In other words, Hithfaeril was agreeing that she would join in.
With Pharaun’s encouragement, Algareth stroked her palm more firmly over his hot bulge. Her heart was beating quickly, her core twisted in an achingly sweet sensation, urging her to sway her hips to keep friction upon her womanhood. Her touch lightened as she watched the faerie fire dance upon her dress. Much like Hithfaeril she was quickly entranced and due to the lights she was not paying much attention to what either had to say.
As Hithfaeril closed the gap between herself and the bed, she slipped her leggings off, leaving them carelessly in a pile. “It is one thing to say that you have the magical touch, it is another to prove it.” A playful smirk quirked up her pink lips.
Pharaun’s sexual history probably wasn’t what a surfacer would expect. While it was true that the drow worshiped demons, and demon-worship came with its fair share of orgies and deviancy-- the drow also followed a strictly matriarchal hierarchy. Females dominated everything and everyone among the drow, especially the males. Although his exceptional looks and charm had won him a night with many choice women, sexual encounters occurred solely at the discretion of the female. He’d spent centuries subject to their whims, and that meant he was accustomed to taking a SUBMISSIVE role, even if it didn’t come naturally to him.
There were exceptions to every rule, of course. He’d occasionally crossed paths with a drow who preferred him to take the dominant role-- but they were few and far between. Surface elves were something entirely different, and he hadn’t yet decided how this encounter would go, but nor was he going to overthink it. That was the sort of thing Ryld would do; Pharaun was much more ADAPTABLE.
As soon as Hithfaeril came into reach, his greedy hands sought her skin. Black fingertips danced along the back of her thigh, tempting her closer-- and all the while, a part of him was wondering what those strong thighs would taste like. Finding out certainly wasn’t a bad way to make a first impression.
“You know, all of this conversation has me positively FAMISHED,” he commented with a languid stretch. Red eyes slid toward her, fixing hungrily on her hips; when he spoke again, his voice was thick with implication. “I think before we get started I ought to have something to eat.”
sunshinedoomguide:
“As long as the bathwater’s hot, I don’t care if they’ve never washed their towels,” she said, giving her swordblade one last wipe and staring at the handkerchief in distaste before dropping it on the ground. But at least she could sheath her sword, and it was a novel idea of doing so around him. “It’s not your body that offends me,” she said, giving him a glance over in case some of the blood was his and she would feel obligated to heal him. “Just everything else about you.” But not so much she wouldn’t split a bottle of wine with him. Or three.
He grinned, satisfied with the answer. Oh, it was supposed to be an insult-- of that he was certain-- but he was accustomed to being despised. That didn’t wound his vanity. To say that he was UNATTRACTIVE, however, after all the effort he put into his appearance...
“Come-- as much as I’m certain you would savor a long march back to the city filled with suffering, I can get us there in a fraction of the time.”
